Hello to all, has anyone here have had good excuses to escape work for a month or more and you employer not bothering you about it ?? I need some info or help if you guys know any excuses or have had similiar scenarios on getting that time.

You see i already used the Leave of absence for two months last year..and I know that wont fly again..My empoyer allows two weeks, im thinking i could tell them i have to see my fiance for we have a k1 interview and i have to be there ...and not only that but i have to be there two weeks before the date so we can travel through bogota and other to get documents and talk to lawyer...then id have to stay for atleast 5 to 7 days to get response after interview to see if they accept...then do more traveling so i can finalize the visa process so she can come here in the future....

I think it could work...i dont think my manager would ask much...but then again he might ask for some sort of paper work...would i be able to get a false document of somesort..??

Or can anyone throw out an idea that has worked for them to escape work???

ANYONE??? lol PLEASE ... i want to see my fiance and really spend more than less than two weeks with her...............we need time together after a long six seven months..

IDEAS anyone.................?????

if they know of your fiance, anything you come up with; they'll know its a farse

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

During these economic times I would suggest you re-evaluate your priorities. What happens if you loose your job? Think things through and try not to be impulsive.

OMG, you are asking ME? Here is how it went for me, 6 times in less than a year

"I am going to Ukraine."

"When?"

"Thursday"

"For how long?"

"Whatever it takes"

"When will you be back?"

"When I am finished in Ukraine"

I don't know if they had a problem with it, don't care. That's only me. :)

Check into the family and medical leave act, it grants up to 12 weeks (unpaid) leave for major life changes affecting your family, maybe this qualifies and then it doesn't matter if they like it. Not sure, I never bother which such nonsense, my family trumps all. Oh, and you do not need a lawyer, we knew immediately the visa was approved (Maybe Bogota is different?) and there is nothing else you need to do to "complete the visa" it is all complete when you get it.

Oh, and you do not need a lawyer

I was thinking the exact same thing! I got triple confirmation from my boss for a 2week 2 day vacation.

I also was thinking the same! Please consider as you will need your job (or a job) to ensure that your visa process smooth. Or else, you might get yourself in a situation where you have to find a co-sponsor or something like that.

My hubby traveled 3 times in 2008 to see me. In march-apr for our wedding (3 weeks, a mix of paid and unpaid leave), august for 2 weeks when we meet up in NZ, and another 2 weeks during the christmas-new year holidays. What he did was that when we decided to marry and do the CR1, he explained the situation to his boss and his boss's boss and together they speak to the HR. I also make sure that he wont jeopardise his job there (as its a good one, stable, good training), so we always make plans around the time that we think his project and performance wont be affected, and that he make them know that he is available online even while we're traveling (not that they ever look for him while he's away, but the amount of things he has to address after the holidays are another matter ;) ).

Why dont you try explaining things to your employer, or offer to take unpaid leave? And, why cant your fiancee gather the paperwork herself before you come, and then when u get to come you guys just put things in order. So that when you are there you can concentrate on just enjoying each other's company... Just my 2cents....

Please do not recommend abusing the FMLA! This is NOT covered under the legislation so it does not qualify anyway.

Ask for unpaid leave and hope for the best. and like others said, hold on to that job --- you will need it when fiancee comes over. Family is first and all that jazz; but why jeopardize your livelihood and hence their needs?

This is not grammar school, where the only thing you have to fear is is detention if you get caught skipping school. You're [presumably] an adult and congnizant of your responsibilities. If you feel you can't do without the physical presence of your woman, state that to your manager and request another leave of absence to see her. If denied, take into consideration the consequences and either remain at your job or quit and go see your fiance. Either way, be an adult and don't ask for advice on how to lie to your employer.

Then what lie are you going to tell when she really does have her interview and you want to go? Can't use that one anymore.

Do you really need to go for a month?

Anxiety. Theres no way they can prove aren't suffering from it as long as you can get a Dr to write a note. My Dr would be sympathetic and do it ;)

#######? STOP ADVOCATING FRAUD. Seriously, VJ is not a place where we advise people to lie their way through things. I find it disgusting that people abuse laws like the FMLA based on bogus claims like this one. The OP needs to grow up an face the music.
