WASHINGTON — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders ... is asking the Smithsonian to change some wording about the war that accompanies the newly installed portrait of President George W. Bush.

Sanders, an independent, objects to a portion of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s text that says Bush’s two terms in office were “marked by a series of catastrophic events” including “the attacks on September 11, 2001, that led to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

The senator said the notion that the attacks were linked in any way to Iraq has been widely debunked and shouldn’t be perpetuated in the museum exhibit.

“The 9/11 attacks did not lead to the war in Iraq,” Sanders said in an interview. “What President Bush was telling us (before the war) was that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq was somehow in collusion with Al Qaeda. Those were misstatements of fact, as even President Bush has since acknowledged.”

Well, plans or initiative to invade Iraq were on the table long before 9/11. However, without 9/11 its unlikely that Bush would have had the political capital to make it happen.

The Smithsonian has it right. While there was no real basis for the attacks on Iraq, the US used the excuse of 9/11 and terrorism threats to invade. Many Americans still believe that Iraq was involved in 9/11 - and they would not have got that idea if it had not been deliberately fostered by the government of the day.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Rightly or wrongly, it led to the wars in Iraq and Afgan.

The bombing of Pear Harbor also led to a war with Japan and Germany (and others)

Yes, but there was really no doubt that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour. They weren't exactly sneaky about it, attacking in broad daylight, in planes with big, red circles on them.

And Japan, Germany and Italy had signed a cooperation agreement, so that meant the US went to war with all of them.

If, after 9/11, the US wanted to attack the country whose people were mainly responsible for the attacks that day, the war would be in Saudi Arabia right now.

Feel the red above should be changed to Bush. But he recently stated that he was misled. Who misled him? With the deaths of over 3/4 of a million people, someone should be held accountable. Rest of us can't even kill one without getting into some very deep trouble. And if they put a kid in jail for lifting a candy bar, should also hold someone accountable for misplacing billions of dollars. Well "misplacing" is the word, they used. More like stealing in my book.

I've been waiting 8 years for the quote from Bush saying something like, "I know Iraq was behind 9/11." If there is quote like that I'm sure it would have been repeated over and over again by the media and his political opponents.

Using War on Terror as a fear ingrediant to drive war against Iraq by also accusing of potential WMD which later adds to the fear on War on Terror. We don't know the motives, but, the white house sure knows how to manipulate the minds of people.

We all know al Qaeda was behind 9/11.

What is one to think when Bush says something like this?

Friday, June 18, 2004

President Bush yesterday defended his assertions that there was a relationship between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda, putting him at odds with this week's finding of the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission.

"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda," Bush said after a Cabinet meeting. As evidence, he cited Iraqi intelligence officers' meeting with bin Laden in Sudan. "There's numerous contacts between the two," Bush said.

Put the youtube vid up of where Tony Blair and the Brits security agency said to attack Iraq for the same thing.

Also loved when Clinton said the same #######.

Then put the votes of the Socialists (Dems) that voted to give Bush a blank check to do what he deemed best as he saw fit to do with Iraq. Congress could have stopped it before it started but Nooooooooo.

Bunch of sheep still.
