Ok, can we all *not* quote the NSFW pic over and over?

But that never gets old!!!

Someone can fall in love in the blink of an eye...maybe what you're really asking is how long does it take for a real relationship to develop?

I think it depends on the two people and the circumstances. Length of time together before being engaged has never been a reliable indicator of successful marriages.

i think it's directly proportional to bra size.

WOW!!! That's alot of love!!!

The way I look at it is. You could meet someone from your own town or city and marry straight away. The one good thing about the internet, your getting to know the person more this way rather falling in love with someone you met in a pub, at work etc.

I've heard this before here, and I have to say I don't understand. Do people who met foreign SO's on the internet really feel that their relationship is *superior* to those who met by more traditional means?

I've never thought that. There are pros and cons to LDR's as well as normal relationships, IMO. Living together certainly hasn't shown to be successful in leading to a lasting marriage. I don't think there's any one sure way.

Right. I've just heard it said many times that in an LDR you get to know each other *better* because you can talk without all the physical stuff getting in the way. maybe people are just using figures of speech, but it really comes off as though those who were not fortunate? enough to have been in an LDR really don't know our partners as well.

I've read some of that here on VJ as well...perhaps it's more a reactionary defense rather than people really thinking that LDR's are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Actually for us, Jinky didn't really like write or read long emails, so most of our communication was through live chat or phone...and looking back at those conversations compared to now...there's much that is missed when you aren't next to each other, face to face. :)

I don't think one is better than the other and yeah I wish I would have found Sujeet in the US and could be together from the start. I think the reason people write that is because while it's more acceptable as years go by there has been a stigma to falling in love with someone online and having a LDR with them, with people questioning the intention of the other person. So the explanation has been that you get to talk to that person tons since you can't do anything else. It's true. And some people who were in LDRs, see comments like "well I can't imagine doing that myself..." so I think both sides might get defensive.

I thought my hubby, when he first approached me, was totally looking for a visa. So being the mischevious girl I played him big time. That was in Nov of 03. Well after several months, and almost losing him I found out that I was way wrong (shame on me) around May of 04. I married him in October of 04. Going on our 4th anniversary now....and he forgives me for playing him.

As for the boobies, well lets just say I now feel inadequate! boo hoo (smileys are gone again)

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

I'm not questioning the online meeting versus the in-person meeting. I'm shocked at how some people got engaged within 1-3 months, for both groups.

It just seems like the online meeting would take even longer because of the anonymity part of it. Until you actually meet in person, you don't really know who you are chatting with, even with cameras and mikes.

Well also, with a LDR, I think there is some trust you have to put into it. Yes, it may be quicker alot of the time but that is because it is a LDR. If you were not so far away, you may contine to just date for a while, but if you want to be able to spend time together you do not have many options.

People who are both in the US, alot of the time move in together just as quick.

Some people are very efficient.
