I hear what you're saying - but to me there's a VAST difference between not getting it right occasionally and THIS case. Even if you discount the pre-age sex, (and I know teenage pregnancy is nothing new but this is PRE-TEEN!) there's the smoking and drinking and unsupervised conduct and the 11 year old's general attitude.

Sure. I think what concerns me is the speed at which we heap moral opprobrium onto other peoples' parenting skills. It's the same as those studies that show that most of us think we are great drivers, and the problems we face on the roads are caused by everyone except us.

In truth, we have no real idea what led to this situation. I can see why a mother would be proud of her 11 year old daughter under these circumstances. Whether the mother would be proud of herself is another matter.

The initial mystery that attends any journey is: how did the traveller reach his starting point in the first place?

I'd say 2 out of every 5 girls at this HS is or has been pregnant - some multiple times...

It's disgusting to me

Well.. The fact that the mother said she was proud of her daughter explains very well the reason why the lil girl smokes, drinks and have sex at 11! That's a shame that she didn't act as a mother by talking to her daugther and explains about the dangers of this world! This kind of thing happens all over the world...

Ha! Here in Brazil I personally know about a bizarre case that happened to an ex-neighbour of my family! The GUY was only 11 and made his 18 year-old AUNT pregnant! :blink:

Thanks God he didn't smoke of drink heavily at that age, at least! :wacko:

I'm afraid it was my child I would have said 'you're coming with me NOW' and taken her to the closest abortion centre, and then given her a choice between being grounded for life or going into a juvenile rehabilitation centre because she obviously has serious psychiatric problems to be acting out so incredibly young and she needs help.

And if the girl hid her pregnancy till it was too late to abort safely, then I'd have adoptive parents lined up for the kid. I'm utterly horrified at the idea of a child that young becoming pregnant and having a baby - she's not old enough to know the first thing about it. I'm sure she thinks that a baby will be a living doll, and you can guess who's going to do all the raising of it (and it won't be her)...

PS. the story should NOT be glamorised in any way, shape or form because it just encourages other stupid young kids to think they can get attention by playing at grownups...
