Separate Dining Checks?

Since I've moved to North Carolina my husband and I have noticed we get asked if we want separate checks about half the time that we eat out. I have no idea if it's a cultural dining thing or an underlying prejudice .  For the restaurants we frequent I don't see it happening to other couples and my husband has never been asked that in the past.  

 

I don't know how to deal with it but it's beginning to bug me.  My plan is either : 

A - Give them a slight stink eye or look of incredulous confusion 

B - Say: my husband and I/my wife and I always share the bill (or something to that effect) 

C- Sit in his lap and lick his face..... lol 

 

Oh and yes, we are of different ethnicities.  And yes we always wear our wedding rings.

I say, go for B. most folks don't wake up planning to be an ###**** to others. Its likely their best judgement from what they have seen. Killing with kindness has a sweeter reward and most people will remember that longer than a stink eye.

I say go for A, and move a motion that 'A' be amended to A - Give them a severe stink eye, shake your head in disbelief, and say in slow, halting English, "Give-us-our-check-now!"

I voted yes we get asked if it's on one bill. 

Part of this is because we sit across from each other. unlike many couples sitting next to each other. 

Now if we have the little kids with us they don't ask, but if we have the little kids and big kids with us we are asked if it's one bill. 

We are all of the same ethnicity.

I think here in the hipstery Pacific Northwest, asking if you want a separate bill is some kind of cool factor feminine independence cred...or something. But yeah, it seems to happen to me a lot more here than it did when I lived on the East Coast.

If my wife and I go out (hard with little ones) for dinner, we've never had anyone ask us about separate checks. I'm usually the one asking for the check after our meal. 

 

We do often get asked if we are together at check out lines, but I'm not one to take it personally. Where we are at, it's more common to see Asian female to Caucasian male couples than the other way around.

Since I have been taking my wife out to eat, Been a little over 3 years now.  I have yet been asked if we want separate tickets for the meal.

 

If we did I would say Yes Please, and see the face my wife would make when they give her a bill for her food.

 

I pretty provide everything and my wife is the typical stay at home housewife.

Separate checks?  I don't get that request even when out with business associates.  Waitresses really don't like splitting checks.  It requires them to do math.
