I'm super super happy! I finally recieved my 2 years Green card 2 weeks ago and last monda I went to the DMV to renew my driver's license. When I got my 1st drivers license I didt it with my work permit while my gc was still pending. They gave me a conditional drivers license (EXP date sept 2013)

Even when I could wait, last monday I decided to go an update my drivers license and my SSN immigration status. For what I read, when you update your driver's license with your 2 years green card, the dmv issue the driver's license for same amount of time of your GC valid time, so both expires the same day.

I was a little bit concern cause so many people, when the ROC times arrives, most of the people I read, had a hard time having their driver's license expired while the ROC was still pending, in some cases, the DMV didnt even accept the Notice of action as a proof.

But for my surprise, I received my new drivers license by mail and I was beyonnnndd happy to see the exp date is on Nov 2021!! i JUST COULDNT BELIEVE! so now I have no worries about updating again for the next 8 years. Even my naturalization process is gonna come sooner than my dl's expiration date which is cool!

have any of you have the same experience?

Same with my husband's state ID here in FL. He had one that stated temporary on it and expired when his EAD did, in only 1 year. When he went back to update it with his green card, it was once again sent to Tallahassee first and his non-temporary state ID, issued for the usual 8 years arrived in the mail within a couple weeks. The lady at the DMV told me this was the last time it would need to be sent to Tallahassee and when it needed to be renewed, it would be renewed like anyone else, right there on the spot, same day.

Similar experience in CA for me. I waited for my GC to apply for a DL last September, and I received a DL valid until 2016. Yay! :)

We won't have any DL renewal problem when ROC comes!

Mine expires on 2021! I just couldnt believe my eyes! even when ROC is not my biggest concern at all for now, I was checking some of the experiences, and most of the people I read of had a hard time with their driver's license expired while the roc was still pending. Im so happy! Actually my naturalization process is way sooner then my dl's exp date.

I dont know what happened but Im super happy

Yeah she told me the same! but she didn't say anything about the 8 years valid time...I thought it was 2 years just like my GC. Im thrilled! at least I will not be worry about this when the ROC comes. A friend of mine had a hard time cause her drivers license expire the same day of her GC and she needed to wait for a couple of weeks until she got the approval letter.

When I applied for a Texas ID card using my EAD (which was valid until July 2013), when my ID card showed up in the mail it was actually valid until 2019.

Texas...yeah.

My friend, a citizen (so it isn't 100% related) went to Arizona to get a DL because his grandma lived there. He got a license that expired in 2045. That is at retirement. Yeah.

Hey, when you went to the DMV with your GC, did you need to bring anything else (passport? Marriage cert? etc. etc.?)!?

Also, what do you mean when you say: "I decided to update my SSN immigration status."??

I am in Florida, too.

About the SSN, you have to let the SSA know if your immigration status changes. So when you get your green card, you have to go back to a SSA office and let them know you are now a permanent resident by showing them your green card. They will then issue you a new SS card with just your name and SS#, same one as US citizens (no more annotation about work authorization).

You don't have to do that, it's optional.

You do have to update your information with the SSA after you are naturalised, however.
