Especially with Vlad's adventure in Ukraine making things difficult for Russians outside of Russia, my wife filed shortly after she was eligible (her interview is next month).

But I think I'm pretty much in the camp that if your home country allows dual citizenship and you intend to stay in the US indefinitely and/or want the right to come back to the US whenever you want, there really aren't many logical reasons not to.

It’s so interesting to read everybody’s take on this. Thank you all for sharing your stories.
For me personally, I applied for naturalization as soon as I could (with the obligatory day or two for padding due to USCIS’s apparent inability to create accurate case dates). While I was born and raised in Switzerland and spent 34 years of my life there, I feel so much more at home here in the U.S. than I ever did anywhere in Europe. Even my parents say every time they visit how much more they see me fit in here as opposed to there, which must be weird for them.
I’m in the lucky position of not having to worry about giving up any citizenship as neither the U.S. nor Switzerland care at all. However, while I’m technically a dual citizen and while the Swiss passport is at least on par with the U.S. one, I consider myself lucky and proud to be an American and only ever travel on my U.S. passport (even when I go to Switzerland).
Also and finally, contrary to a lot of other Europeans who naturalize, I stand by my declaration to “bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law”. This might be because Switzerland’s take on firearms differs quite significantly from other European countries.
I’ll keep reading this thread; again, thanks everybody for sharing.

America! The land of opportunity. A lot of our ancestors came here for different reasons. Economic, freedom of religion, flee the oppressors and I'm sure the list goes on. Europe wasnt always a great place to live, lets drift back to the 1940s. Same with the far east (Asia) People now a days come for alot of the same reasons and with technology are able to meet life partners thousands of miles away from home. As much as the world has changed it has stayed the same.
My wife left her country due to the lack of opportunity to provide for her family, She is so proud of her blue passport and was thrilled to vote for the first time last November. A lot of people take our country for granted, she does not as she has been on both sides and still sees the USA as the place that made her life complete. To each their own I say. If we were all the same life would be so boring.

Usually the media talks to the criminal's family, so we can hear what a great guy they were.  It's nice that the Houston media went to the effort to find the other victim's family and get their response.

I like Pence. During the pandemic it was like the adults speaking when he took over the stage. I do agree he has no chance.  Desantis will crush him or Trump

I don't think there is a problem questioning the number of shots, or questioning that last shot.  I would hope that, if I were in that situation,  I would be able to know when to stop shooting.  In my opinion, he definitely could have stopped shooting once he saw that the guy no longer had the gun in his possession.  But, I also can't imagine what it's like to really be in that situation.  I guess I would choose to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who was being robbed, not to the robber.  I am also a little concerned about him leaving the scene.  If I remember my CCL training, in that situation we should call our lawyer, the cops, and an ambulance.  Then we sit and wait for the cops to show up.  But I don't know if that's a legal requirement or just something that is recommended.

I saw a longer video that shows that, after the shooting, the guy realizes that the bad guy didn't even have a real gun.  He ends up throwing it across the restaurant in anger.  For some reason, that was encouraging to me.  He wasn't excited or happy about killing a criminal.  He was angry about the whole situation.

my thoughts, as a conceal carry holder.

    - whether the guy was shot in the back or not does not matter, he was in the middle of armed robbery.  nothing says the conceal carry holder has to shoot the perpetrator in the front
or give the perpetrator fair warning so he turns around.  "fair fight" does not play into this one bit.
    - the shots fired after the threat was down and neutralized could well lead to charges.  the general rule of thumb is to shoot until the thread is neutralized and then cease fire.  rapid fire
is not an issue here - neutralizing the threat is, and plenty of hot lead to the torso tends to make that happen.  if the perpetrator is reaching for the firearm after he (or she) is horizontal
on the floor after being hit by "freedom seeds", then further appropriate action should be taken to neutralize that threat - by grabbing his firearm if safely able to, or by more shots.
    -  in summary, actions taken by the conceal carry holder should always be taken with with the mind that they may need to be defended in court.  i'm not seeing the shots after the
perpetrator was neutralized as being needed.

note - a head shot means no reloading

The first few shots I have no issue with, the last few (and the final shot) were unnecessary. That being said, some idiot just pointed a gun at you, so I can see where adrenaline is going to kick in from a life-threatening situation and cause the customer to take it a little further than he needed to. NONE of this would have happened if the robber hadn't threatened the lives of people in the restaurant.

The fault lies entirely on the robber, the customer should not be charged.

Because at least in some cases the use of the attorney is optional, meaning, you don't HAVE to have one.

Sincere sympathies, but you've learned some substantial things.

This cavalier attitude toward crucial requirements, possibly infected by inaccurate advice from others, will carry over into marriage (to you or anyone).  Finances, for example, is a (if not the) chief cause of marital strife.  He has not respected this.  He also disrespected the need to prepare the apartment.  Finally, he dismissed the need for, and the importance of, the police certificate.

At minimum, this indicates fundamental difficulties in communication between the two of you.
At most -- and realistically, in my view -- it indicates a crucial difference in attitudes toward responsibility and sacrifice.

Accompanying this is an apparent disparity in the effort put into making the mechanics of this relationship happen, with the concomitant effect on your emotional state -- and especially the lack of even token concern when you were sick.  This is not what most people would call a sound foundation for a happy marriage or even a dating relationship.

You have the choice of deciding whether you can abide a lifetime of having to drag him through life's responsibilities -- the big ones, the everyday ones, and the unexpected crises that are inevitable -- and deciding whether you can overlook the mentioned deficiencies and never ever complain about them or bring them up again.  The title of your thread suggests that you've already chosen your remedy.

The definitive decision is yours, but I think that the indelible handwriting is on the wall, and that you'll ultimately feel far better about yourself by calling a permanent halt to this enervating, expensive mistake.  If you decide this, you can thank your lucky stars that this didn't proceed to an unhappy short-term marriage and the mess of divorce.

This world has innumerable attractive, appealing, responsible, supportive, emotionally available men who will willingly meet you halfway in forming a fulfilling lifetime relationship.  Please keep this at top of mind.

I have no idea what anyone means when they refer to "MAGA" or "MAGA Republicans".  To me, MAGA is simply a slogan, similar to the one used by DeSantis.  I have no issue with anyone who voted for Trump especially considering I voted for Trump this last time.  I don't understand the Trump worshipers just like I don't understand those with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Some could argue that the only reason we have a President Biden is because of Trump's negative qualities.  Trump would have been an almost perfect President if he would have focused on policy and got rid of the juvenile behavior.

    Pick your two:

Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, or Tim Scott.  I'd even consider Chris Christie, Dan Crenshaw, Mike Pence, or Mike Pompeo.

There are a lot of good, intelligent people who are qualified to be President who wouldn't embarrass us on a daily basis and aren't about to turn 80.  There are even some on the Democratic side that fit that description.

When you are the leader of the country, being an arrogant jerk 99% of the time is going to have a negative effect on the country.  Yes, he was quite often right on policy but his personality and lack of maturity was embarrassing.

Honestly, what President gets upset about what SNL says about them?

Some say without showing before and after screen shots, that updated count totals are breaking at least 3 to 1 for GOP.  If so, both Lake and Masters have solid paths to victory because there are over 600,000 votes left to count (per https://apps.arizona.vote/info/bps/2022-general-election/33/0 which appears to maintained by Katie Hobbs herself).

I’ve taken before screen shots just now and when there are updated totals, I will share my before and after screenshots and either break our hearts or give hope. Given the glacial pace (expected since Hobbs is cold blooded and a cold front moved in last night) of counting, I was xorct to update y’all in December
