I was in your same boat not too long ago.

You can apply for citizenship and pay that fee only.

If you schedule an infopass appointment *before* your green card expires, you can get a stamp in your passport that will serve as proof of your LPR status while your N400 is pending.   The stamp is free.  If you wait until *after* your green card expires to get the stamp, they will tell you to renew your green card instead and pay the fee.

It is common for one's green card to expire while the N400 is pending....you then don't need to renew the green card unless your N400 is denied in the end.  An expired green card does not mean that your LPR status expires----just the physical proof is expired (the card).

We filed online and were really happy we did.  Within two days my husband received notification of his biometrics appointment.  I'm not sure if it is available to you, but I'd definitely check it out.  Because we did file online, there were several things that we didn't have to worry about (it already calculated our eligible filing date, it allowed us to upload our documents, when we filled out the application, it didn't show us the questions we didn't need to answer and it charged us  the correct amount...).

To answer your question, though, yes the date is 90 days prior to your three year anniversary of being a permanent resident.  We have a pending ROC and have read in many places on this site that it is completely acceptable to have two pending applications (ROC and naturalization).  Yes, we paid $725.00.  Being online, we paid with credit card.

I believe the two identical color photos are only if you live outside the US.  The rest of your paperwork looks good.

I would put a date on there - if memory serves, you will not be able to continue to the next section unless you fill that information - perhaps the issue date on her passport?

As you complete the online form, later you will have access to the Evidence tab - this is where you will upload your documents.

In the section where you will upload documents about your US citizen spouse - Upload the copy of your spouse's US Passport there and a document with your name, A# and application type (N-400) - in that document you will explain that you do not have a copy of your spouse's certificate of naturalization.  Explain too that you mentioned this in the previously approved I-30 application (provide the case number for that so they can check it).

Hi. I went through this process last year.

I went to my local SSN office the following morning after my naturalisation ( make it as early as possible ) take your ID and your certificate with you and they will take care of the rest and take 3-5 business days for the system to fully update.

OH and you will need to use that cert to apply for your US Passport  copies (unless its a certified copy) are not accepted. just ask the postal / passport people if they can put a post-it on your cert to ask for them to not fold or bend it.

USCIS give you all the information at your ceremony.

    Best WIshes.

An error like putting down the wrong year of school attendance is not going to be an issue at all, so long as you update the application info during your interview.

You'd be happy to know you were not the first VJer to have gone through this - from what I have read, since those taxes are already paid, you should not have an issue.  A copy of your tax transcript is one of the documents required, and you can also attach documents that show when and how they were paid.

You will find that applying under the 5 year rule requires far less documentation than filing under the 3 year rule.

Try starting a N-400 application online - you are not required to submit it until you are ready, you just need to save your work and upload the files in the Evidence tab (you will see that after you have successfully answered all the questions).

As you are responding to the form, sections will open up and ask for more information.  This will give you an idea on what you need to prepare when you are ready to submit and pay for your application.

    Stick the current paper filing.
I would suggest you to keep an eye on the uscis website every few days even while your on vacation and shorten your trip once you receive the interview date.
There will usually be a gap of 25 to 35 days from the interview letter to the interview date.
If you are going to a place with no internet access then I would suggest you to shorten the trip before hand.

marriedtomrg got a reaction from Cincyman in Applying for Naturalization While I-751 is Pending. What kind of documents to attach with the application?
Try starting a N400 application online. As you complete the form you will be advised what kind of supporting documents to attach. You have to keep the application active until you are ready to submit so you do not lose your work - you can easily do that by signing into the account and completing it a section at a time. Or complete all the sections and then just sign into it periodically and review sections. This will refresh you form until you are ready to submit and pay.

You will find that if you are applying based off 5 years of residency, there will be fewer documents required.

I want to say USCIS favors tax transcripts, but I have read that in a lot of interviews they are not even asked for. Requesting them is free though for previous years, and you can easily upload that on your N400 application even after you have submitted it. If your interview falls after the tax deadline just expect them to ask for your current tax form, too.

marriedtomrg got a reaction from fromphtousa.com in Immigrant Pinay feeling homesick and lonely [split topic]
Before I moved here, I had driving lessons but still it took me three years to work up the nerve and take the written test so I could do the driving test.  Up to that point (between 2009 and 2012), for me to get around I either had to walk or take the bus - my husband was always at work and if he had to drive to do anything it would be for grocery shopping (which unfortunately, he hates with a passion).  It was very hard - but I found a work-at-home job which allowed me to write and paid ok so I had something to do.  Later I got a job at a grocery store but my hours were limited because I needed someone to drive me to and from work.

I took my driving test in late 2012, and I have been driving since - believe me when I tell you that once you do it, you will wonder how the heck you waited so long!  Passing the test the first time gave me some confidence - I lived in the Philippines 38 years without ever getting to (or needing to) drive; to put it in perspective for you - my younger brother learned how to drive when we were in high school - he has been driving far longer than I have.  And yet, after he moved to Canada, and took the driving test - he didn't pass the first time.  He had to take it a second time.

When you learn how to drive and get around, you may want to check out the nearest Asian store - we have a couple here in town, and even a Filipino restaurant! And if there is not one, there are online Asian stores that deliver.  My husband likes FIlipino food - unfortunately, a lot of what I know to make has soy sauce in it (you know how that goes), and he is watching his salt intake, so I can't always make it - I only make that food for company or for parties.  His favorite is beef sinigang (a soup made with a tamarind-based/sour broth with your choice of meat or seafood and vegetables) and grilled stuffed squid (luckily our store carries that, except it is frozen).

You really need lakas ng loob (courage) and to learn to be assertive and proactive - otherwise, you will easily succumb to homesickness.  I know you miss your family...I sure miss mine - but I am thinking your family would like you to be successful here.

When my mom came to visit (you cannot imagine what a thrill that was for her, she has been to the US twice) - we signed up for TFC so she would not miss her beloved telenovelas (lol) - if you are a GMA person, then you can also subscribe to their channels.

There is so much for you to experience and possibly enjoy.  You need to give yourself the chance - open yourself up to your new life; by the sounds of it, you are married to a great guy who wants nothing but your happiness - count your lucky stars!

You have friends here in VJ who understand and know what you are going through.  Hang in there!

You can file for N-400 90 days before the 3 year anniversary of your GC date.  So if your GC date is March 2016 (your 3 years is March 2019), the earliest you can file your N-400 is December 2018.  If you decide to file before your ROC is adjudicated/completed, just be prepared for some snags/potential delays in the process - USCIS has to approve your ROC before they can approve your citizenship.

cyberfx1024 is right, ROC and N-400 timelines vary per field office, and some take longer than 5 to 6 months now.

It depends on the total number of documents you need to upload.  But, the upload process itself is very simple and easy.  Just make sure, you meet the size requirement.

I haven't read through the 5 pages of responses, but for me a giant pro is never having the threat of having your green card revoked for some real or imagined infraction.

Citizenship can be revoked but it's a far lengthier process (as far as I'm aware) and a lot harder to do (again, as far as I'm aware - happy to be told if I've got it wrong)

Greater mobility is definitely a plus.  After this "divorce," I don't have to tell USCIS where I live anymore (unless I decide to sponsor my parents - assuming that option is still available at the end of this mess), I can travel to most countries without a visa (American citizens still need one to visit Vietnam, which is a country my husband and I would love to see), I do want to vote, and I want the option to apply for a job that is typically only open to US citizens - someone replied they would like to apply at USCIS, I was thinking about that too! lol

I wish I had done it at my 5 year residency, when it was still $680 - already considered a small fortune for our family.  The fees only go higher at this point.  I did not want to wait until fees became very prohibitive.  Talked to some folks who applied way back when - they only paid $70! Sigh.

Oh well...at least now I know my name is in the queue. One and will be done (at some point).
