Wife should be more active about her immigration and manage cases herself. You can offer help / oversee the process.

As an aside the US Driving Test is super easy. Embarrassingly so.

In Texas at 25 years old, you can take the written test and driving test immediately.  That is probably not practical if you have never had a license, so getting a permit/restricted license is probably the way to go.  To get the permit, you have to pass the written exam.  You can do that at the DPS office, or you can enroll in one of the many driver education courses and take the test online (for a fee of course).

Here are the steps you will need to take to obtain a Texas learners permit if you are 25 years of age or older:
Gather required documents: You will need to provide proof of identity, proof of residency and proof of insurance. Acceptable forms of identification include a passport, birth certificate, or permanent resident card. Study for the written test: You will need to pass a written driving test that covers Texas traffic laws and regulations, road signs, and safe driving practices. You can use free study materials and practice tests available right here at NextDoorDriving.com. Make your learner’s permit appointment with the DPS. Pass the vision test: You will need to pass a vision test to ensure that you have the minimum visual acuity required to drive safely. Pass the written test: Once you feel comfortable with the material, you can take the written test at your local Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office. Obtain a learners permit: After passing the written test and vision test, you will be issued a Texas learners permit.

In my area, DPS appoints are always are booked months out.  They do open appointments on a daily basis at about 8:00 to fill any openings for that day..

A quick Google search yielded this seemingly informative page (not official State government):

Read it to see if it clarifies things, then perhaps contact them.

They have to pick up their mail. You can relax for now. It's postmarked for today and the receipt you have confirms that

It’s either transcripts only OR full tax return and W2. Pick one but they prefer transcripts. In that case drop the W2s

Pick one or the other. There is no need to send both
And the K1 visa page as well
This will be separated so it needs its own set of documents. At the very least you need 2 passport photos for I-765 as well

The post mark is the day you hand it off to the clerk at the window at post office. Obviously send certified mail return receipt. Retain slip showing post mark.

Better file and have shipment postmarked before April 1st or you will have to pay higher fees. Also effective April 1st separate payments are required for 485, 765, 131.

If you were never married you can't provide anything. If your spouse was married and divorced before, they need to provide copies of divorce decrees. I'm sure forms ask about prior marriages and divorces. Providing evidence to back it up is not bloating package, it's avoiding RFE.

The same as in a law enforcement contact/detention/arrest situation, "anything that you say can and will be used against you."  This is perhaps even truer in an airport-security situation.

If TSA wants to pat you down and you say, "Be careful -- I have a very tender butt," the chances exponentially increase that they'll manhandle your butt... and perhaps not just the outside.

To everyone else:  Answer direct questions with a minimal amount of honest reply, volunteer nothing, and avoid attracting attention to yourself.

To the OP:  Glad that you made it.  Become an "A" student of all phases of the immigration process to come.

TonyMacaroni got a reaction from SalishSea in Has anyone been forced by the airport security to open the yellow envelope?
Okay, so first of all, I’m in the States with my fiancé! I handed over the envelope fully intact and got the K1 stamp. No questions asked except for “Is this your first time here on this visa?”. The officer just gave me the passport back and said that I have 90 days to get married.

There was a situation at the Istanbul airport which got me anxious. Other than going through the standard X-ray conveyor belt, they had this 3-step security check at the gate. The first 2 steps was they checked my visa. Yep, twice. The third was them opening our bags and going through our stuff. So before I even let them open my backpack I asked the guy if he spoke English and he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain to him that I have a fragile envelope that can’t be opened anyway. Then came his supervisor that spoke the language and I reiterated that to him. In the end he said it’s okay, we don’t need to open it and they let me go. Other than that, it went pretty smooth. Thanks to everybody for the replies!

Haha, my bad. I thought every airport security service was called “TSA”. What I meant was of course just “airport security”. Yeah, they may not be able to determine that through the X-ray but they may just want to manually inspect the bag for whatever reason. I just want to be prepared to act the right way should I be forced to show the contents of the envelope. Maybe learn about other people’s experiences.

Hypothetically, after my bag goes through the X-ray machine: “Hey what’s in that envelope? No sealed envelopes are allowed. Show us what’s inside!”

That's my point......any number of things could have gone wrong after their attention was directed toward the envelope.  But "all is well that ends well".

Now there was the K1 from the UK where the Consulate had not picked up on a waiver being needed and was refused entry at the PoE.
