I think it's time to get a fresh medical exam done to save time. It's valid for 6 months.

Field office: Denver, CO. Hello everyone, we had our K1 AOS interview  on Oct. 13, 2022. It was more like a regular conversation than an actual interview. Questions were primarily focused on when we got married, where we got married, my parent's name (to her) and the officer typed whatever we said into the computer (she asked to describe our relationship). She found out that the consulate forgot to send them the medical (or maybe they did and it got lost in transit) so she said she will issue us an RFE for medical. It was pretty relaxing, except for the long wait in the waiting room waiting for an officer to call us.

Marrying strictly for immigration purposes is fraud.

What is the penalty for marrying someone for a green card? [2022] (stilt.com)
"INA 275 (c), states that any individual who enters into the marriage purposely and knowingly intending to evade any provision of immigration laws shall be imprisoned for not more than five years and be fined not more than $250,000 or both"

Yes, in Georgia the extension letter works just fine.  My husband used his I-751 extension letter to renew his driver's license in GA.  The new one has an expiration date that matches the 24-month extension date.

Did you get DL expiring on your Birthday in 5 years or until extension letter expiry?
At least in California they treated me as an LPR and issued 5 year DL on renewal instead of 2 year based on extension letter.

I am in Ohio, they only able to renew my DL up to 1 year (not 2 years per my extension letter)

OldUser reacted to Nat&Amy in International travel one week after citizenship interview/oath
Just passing by to share my experience, in case there are others in a similar situation.

In the end of August I received the notice my citizenship interview had been scheduled for October 6th. Local office was San Bernardino and, from other timelines, I saw they were doing same-day oaths. Great!

Only one caveat. Last year I booked an international trip to celebrate our anniversary, and we were supposed to leave on October 14th. With a same-day oath, I would no longer have my green card to travel back to the US.

I did as other VJ members recommended and got in touch with the Passport Agency line to try and schedule an appointment, and was lucky enough to get one in LA for October 12th. Mind you, I called them exactly after leaving my oath ceremony on Oct. 6th.

The passport was ready for pickup today at 1pm! Success.

So if you have an international trip coming up and are in the limbo post-oath, I sincerely recommend contacting the Passport Agency service before giving up hope. From beginning to end they were very accommodating and courteous.

I'm not going to lie, having no passport the night before our trip was SUPER stressful but I'm glad it worked out in the end. (And the passport is the next-gen one, very nice!)

thanks. I am far more elated than my wife who will get the 10 year card.  I’d budgeted $$$$ to file an APA / WAC suite if this went on another year. Now we can spend that money on something useful.

The specter of begging for I-551 stamps seems to have vanished.

@KatharinaT good question. You can try renewing once you receive the 24 months extension letter. That means DMV in theory should issue you a Driver License expiring 01/30/2025. Maybe somebody from Georgia can confirm?

That 10.5 months is the moving average of the processing time in the last 6 months.  It's possible in the last couple months things slow down so now it's really taking 12 months, but the data won't reflect that.  The same would also happen if they started processing faster as well.

@Elena & Craig field office is irrelevant in this case. The application was processed solely at the Service Center. Field office is only involved if interview is needed or N-400 filed with N-751 pending.

^^ people can correct me on this, it's only my understanding.

This is how I understand it too, especially as all of my e-requests have been addressed by WAC/California Service Center. As I recall, my e-requests or inquiries during AOS were answered by my local field office after my case was ready to be scheduled for an interview.

San Diego, CA. Don’t think it ever went there though as I was never scheduled for an interview, I’m presuming it stayed at WAC.

Remote work for foreign employers is one area where immigration rules have not caught up with the reality of life yet.

The no working without authorization rule is designed to prevent non-residents taking job opportunities away from residents (and also it's easier to make sure you have taxed residents than non-residents so the government won't lose any money)

Digital nomads are on the increase - lots of people check in on work while on vacation as well as those who permanently travel.

My personal opinion is that it's silly to consider a non-resident without work authorization taking a local restaurant job the same as someone getting paid from overseas for doing something online for a company not based in the USA.

As far as I know the definition of 'working in the USA' has never been tested in court to definitely include remote overseas work yet - it would make it a lot easier if it had been.

So the decision is yours, and as a PP has said unauthorized work would be forgiven in your situation.

Also, if you currently do not have a copy of everything filed, asked your attorney to provide it. This is for your preparation and in case if you decide to hire somebody else to join you at the interview.

Make sure your spouse is also very serious about it.

Lastly, make sure to be polite, but confident in your interview. Wear formal clothes. Say the minimum, only what you're asked and nothing else. Where possible to answer "yes" or "no" say it instead of long answers.

    Good luck to you!
