Carlos.Brazil got a reaction from AKN2 in What Are Top Skills I Need To Learn Before Leaving For USA?
My wife is going through something similar right now, she was a Portuguese Teacher in Brazil and just landed a position at Amazon as a "Machine Learning Data Linguist" for various foreign languages that she speaks. It all started when she said she wanted to keep using her Master's degree in linguistics and keep using her native language (But she didn't want to continue being a teacher) and that's when she found out about Natural Language Processing (NLP), which would mix IT and her Linguistic Background. At first, she started studying how to code with Python and signed up on Coursera to take the "Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate" course, but decided she wanted to work more with language itself and not a ton of technical stuff yet.
I'd recommend for anybody on here (Since almost everybody is from a different country, and they know a language(s) other than English) to use this to their advantage! Find a niche field that requires you to be proficient in the language you know and work towards that. For example, their are many Data analyst positions in the US, but some require you to collect, organize, sort, etc. data in a different language, that's where you come in! And if you have zero experience or don't have any technical skills at all, you can take those Google Professional Certificates on Coursera to get you started and put on your resume.

Yeah, tough break, but it could always be worse. They explicitly told us that we were called for an interview because of the fingerprint issue, so if you've had two biometrics appointments then I suggest you get police certificates ready for your interview. They didn't even tell us the issue until the end of the interview. They would have accepted police certificates right there, but of course how were we to know that we needed them?

Yes you can. It is extremely common and you can find lots of members in the forum that have done so.
Some have even been interviewed for citizenship before the renovation of conditions was approved.

Received a new Social Security card in the mail yesterday (Didn't apply for a new one or anything), but no Green card yet. Just wanted to update regarding the SSN because I know in the past people were recommending to go into the SSN office to get a new card after they receive their green cards, but looks like it they do it automatically now!

I've been sitting around, jealous of @Carlos.Brazil and their I-485, and shockingly discovered that we were scheduled for interview today. Now I'm going to be furiously pressing refresh on myuscis until the document appears with the interview date. I can't believe we didn't get an RFE.

Congratulations! I got the RFE for the medical too, so I should be redoing that & sending it off. Also our local FO should be Dallas too but the RFE requested us to send it to Phoenix, so yeah I think they’re processing the case there.

Carlos.Brazil reacted to Redro in B2 Adjustment of Status
Do you think it is fair to spring a surprise like this on your life partner?
ask her to stay in the US without a job (and depending on the state) no drivers license or any type of independence for up to THIRTEEN MONTHS? (One poster on the forum has still not received the ability to work while goi g through AOS process and at about month 8 they were thinking of going home.)
If you want a successful relationship, you should discuss your plans for the next 1-3 years and not spring surprises on them.
Propose and then discuss if you want to got the K1 or CR1 route.
Don’t propose and expect your partner to not return to her life in Mexico for 2-3 years.

Just be mindful of what the consequences for her would be if you would go ahead with getting married and adjusting status. I understand that you don't want to be apart and you both would probably think it is wonderful, but she would be put in a very challenging position. She came to the US with the intention of a visit, and then all of a sudden won't be able to leave the US for many months, she might miss important life events (weddings, funerals, sick relatives or friends) and if she gets homesick, she won't be able to go 'back home' for a while. She'll not be able to work, would be completely dependent on you financially (unless she has savings).
Maybe the surprise of all of this is not a pleasant surprise for her.. You also mention she is "coming: on a tourist visa, so this is probably why people assumed that she is not in the US yet.

Carlos.Brazil reacted to OldUser in B2 Adjustment of Status
Adjustment of status is painful in a sense that she would not be able to work for a year or so and would not be able to leave the US for year and a half or two.
If you went CR1 visa route, once she enters the US, she's a green card holder with all the rights. Though it's also not a quick process.

Well I don't think it necessarily means nothing, I think they most likely are waived. I at least haven't seen anybody who was told their interview was waived get an interview afterwards.

Undocumented visit emergency rooms every day and state pays for it. Go figure.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. That is what I am going to do. Withdrawal the I485 and try to submit for spousal visa.

I honestly don't think it was the expedite that got approved, I think it was just the regular processing since we never got any emails regarding the expedites afterwards aside from the initial one saying it was submitted. I checked in nearly everyday with Emma to see if the expedite case was assigned to an officer yet and even up to the last day, they told me it had not been assigned to someone yet. Then the next day I just got a notification on the case tracker app saying it was approved. But at least they asked for evidence for you! So hopefully you'll hear back soon.

I-131 Advanced Parole approved today! Just got a notification from Case Tracker saying it was approved! Not sure if it was because of an expedite or if it was just normal processing. Hope this means everyone will get theirs soon as well!🥳

Carlos.Brazil got a reaction from Chancy in EXPEDITE REQUEST
It might be even MORE expensive to get looked at and treated in the US and there is no guarantee your request would be approved. So considering your health is on the line, is there any other country that you can travel to and get treatment at a more reasonable price? Many people I know actually travel outside of the US for medical/dental appointments, as it is a lot cheaper to do so.

I second that! It’s cheaper to go to Brazil for dental care, including the cost of airfare. Not to mention that the quality of service is better there.
