Congrat….Very happy that you are thru with consulate part now….And its so true that for some its a breeze and for some its a mountain to cross…My ex wife was 30 yrs younger than mine but they never issued her visa, but in your case age never even came into conversation. Its all about an individual officer….But you are still not completely out of hook from all these immigration jargons…like you need to go thru AOS and then naturalization (if you choose to)…I am sure you must be happy with your love here in US…finally….
Thank you very much Very happy to be with the hubs, yes!! Oh yes, tell me about it. Fought SSN for 3 months, got my EAD finally. Now waiting for AP and Adjustment of status! it never ends..

@SteveInBostonI130 @Crazy Cat Hey, Sorry for the lengthy hiatus! After spending the entire month of February fighting with SSA helpline, I and my husband ended up deciding its not worth the hassle fighting the DMV & banks as well. Health insurance was not a problem. I had my biometrics on April 7th and luckily, the very next day my EAD was approved. I got it in the mail on April 15th. Nothing short of a miracle.
Went to SSA Grand Prairie office on April 25th(Thankfully they were open fully since April 7th) with a fresh application based on EAD. The lady at the counter went back to discuss my case with her superiors and came back with three of them after 30minutes or so and they all apologized and said the same thing - "We do not know why your application was not processed." They then took my fresh application and the SSN came to me on April 28th, in just 3 days. My sabbatical from work ends in July so everything worked out well at the end. Not bothered a lot about i-485 at the moment.
I can see why people prefer CR1 over K1. From the moment I landed, it feels like it is always one paperwork/event after another. Federal offices being on limited staffing made matters much worse. So, if someone asks me in the future - K1 OR CR1? I will always reply with the latter. Thank you for the help, as always guys!

Your I-94 expiration is irrelevant. No need to worry. Since you filed an I-485 package, you have been granted "authorized stay" status until the I-485 is either approved or denied.
Thank you CrazyCat. Anything I can do about this SSN? I want to ask, is SSN needed for applying for Learner's permit and drivers license in TX? My husband just added me to his Heath insurance and their benefits center has asked me to update my SSN before March 17th. Bank account is not a big deal, but I am wondering not having an SSN with cause problems with obtaining my DL or Health insurance:(

The whole SSN process has been a headache since the beginning. Here's the sequence of events -
1. Came here on K1 visa on December 11th 2021.
2. On January 2nd we called the SSN - Grand Prairie, TX office number for an appointment. The lady incorrectly stated that we need not have an appointment but rather use the drop box to drop in all the documents along with the passport and that the passport will be returned to me in 2 days. After one week I started to panic that my passport wasn't returned and called the number again. A different lady confirmed what we did was incorrect and gave me an earliest appointment for January 26th. My passport and documents were returned to me on 23rd. 21 DAYS!!! This is just FYI -
3. Everything went okay on 26th, I was told that my SSN will arrive in the mail in about 2 weeks.
4. Four weeks in, no SSN. No updates in email or via call.
5. From February 24th, we started making calls again to the 855* number, it takes forever to get a hold of someone! After 2 days, a guy on the phone says - Your case has not been processed and he is not sure why. He gives me the extension number of my case officer. I and my husband called her everyday last week, left numerous voicemails but got nowhere. No response, no courtesy call backs!
6. Yesterday we called the 855* again and got hold of someone and this time we asked for a supervisor. He stated that my case is under "DHS Review" and tried to connect me to my case officer but as expected, no response from her. The "DHS Review" prompted me to go to SAVE and check my case - Guess what - My I-94 record does not pull up any record. My passport pulls up four line of records, content of which is in the attached image! I am not sure what to make of all that
Now, with I-94 expiring on March 10th, Not being able to find my i-94 record on SAVE and my case officer/ssn office just being non responsive - What are my options? Who should be getting in touch with? Any pointers is appreciated -

Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾honestly you must feel relieved , when the consular asked “so you’re the reason for the divorce “ that must have been scary, what was your response ?
@Dsam Thank you! Oh yes, it was very scary. It sent a chill down my spine. I politely said NO and stated the reason of their separation. He leaned in and asked me to repeat it one more time and I did. To that he said OK and moved on. He had no expression on his face the whole time.

I like your story. Very interesting experience. Those who haven’t gone through this process may not understand or know how you felt the whole time and how you feel right now. Congratulations! And welcome to USA.
I agree, its one of a kind experience for everyone. For some its a breeze, for someone else its a mountain to cross. Thank you for the wishes, @Athens!!!

Hey Everyone, I am over the moon since last four days. I was approved at my interview last Friday and the status changed to "Issued" today. I want to share my experience in hopes that it will help someone like me out there, who is currently having sleepless nights and extreme anxiety. Our case was not straightforward due to the following major and minor red flags.
1. Age difference of 27 years which is uncommon in India. Two of his children are older than me and just two years of difference between me and the youngest one.
2. Overlapping relationship. We fell in love when he was still legally married, although estranged from his ex-wife.
3. Fiancé not meeting my family after we got into relationship. He met them back in 2018 for a brief cup of tea(official visit to India), but we were not a couple then and also, I had no photos to prove that they met. (This is actually a huge cultural shock). Only had Duo and whatsapp video call screenshots from this year, that I carried for the interview.
4. I have not met any of his children or siblings, only friends.
5. He is a catholic and I am in Hindu and we both practice our faith (may be minor flag).
6. Did not front load our i-129F petition( just 25 pictures from 4 visits), because we did not know what a red flag is at that time. I joined VJ and other FB groups months after filing the petition.
So what we had going for the both of us is, he was my manager on the client end for nearly 4 years. We got into the same team in October 2016 and worked remotely together until April 2020. Since the time our NOA2 got approved, I started to lose my sleep thinking about all the above problems during the interview. I slept at 4:30 or 5 in the morning and gained a significant amount of weight due to the stress (I stress eat). Last Friday was my interview, I was basically shaking after I got done with the document verification part. I was the first person to interview that day in the Mumbai embassy and below were the questions asked by the CO-
1. So, "Mr XXXX" is your fiance and he was your Senior IT manager for 4 years??
2. When did you start talking to each other?
3. When did you meet face to face?
4. So he currently lives in "YYYY", Does his ex-wife also live in the same area?
5. When did he divorce?
6. So basically you are reason he got divorced, right? (Heart skipped a beat, here).
7. How many times did Mr XXXX visit you in India?
8. Did you apply for B2 visa in 2018 only to meet Mr XXXX or was it for something else?
9. What are your marriage plans?
10. How many children does Mr XXXX have, what is the age of the youngest one?
11. Have you met any of the children?
12. What is your educational qualification?
13. Are you quitting your job or do you have other plans?
There were some more follow up questions based on the answers I provided, but these are the main ones. At this point, the CO opened my old passport and punched something on the B1/B2 visa and told me he is cancelling my tourist visa, BUT he is going to issue the K1 visa. I could not believe my ears! The interview lasted about 2-3 minutes and the whole process lasted about an hour. I had taken about 450 pages of chat logs, call logs, emails, post cards, photos and other items and intentionally laid them all out in the counter in hopes that the CO will ask for it, but he never did. He looked at me taking those out but didn't care about it at all. The case status was "Application received" on Friday. "Administrative processing" on Saturday and Sunday. "Issued" this afternoon. I know this is just the first step in the immigration process but it was a huge deal and I cannot thank this forum enough for getting me ready for the interview. I have read the guides and posts as old as 2008/2009, made tons of notes. My fiancé at the end told me that I was over prepared but I honestly don't regret a thing! People, it is always better to prepare for the worst and just hope for the best. And also all the senior members here are always to the point and awesome! Thank you -

Everyone, The surname in my birth certificate only has an initial 'A" and my passport has the expanded version 'Axxxx'. Same goes for my mother's name. In fact every document before I was 18 years old has only the initial. I have my K1 visa interview coming up in a month. Will this prompt a 221g at Mumbai consulate? Should I be changing mine and mother's surnames to their full version in the birth certificate? Has anyone done this before?

Is anyone in the same boat where I haven't received a case number from NVC?
The NOA2 approval was 12 Aug 21. I was instructed by NVC to submit an inquiry with their email address, nvcresearch@state.gov.
Also called USCIS and was told that it could take up to 90 days for NVC to receive.
I am just seeing the horror stories of folks cases never being received. Praying mine doesn't end up like that T_T
90 days just to receive a file seems excessive. Yes, please write to nvcresearch@state.gov and after 2-3 weeks, you should be writing to your local congressperson as well to make an enquiry with NVC/USCIS. From what I read in other posts, nvcresearch@state.gov itself sometimes take months to respond, so this situation sucks.

Hey guys have you guys noticed the f129 approval notice has 4 month validation. What does that mean?
It means that your interview date should be within those 4 months. It is up to the consulate to extend the validity, if you can prove that you were unable to complete the process due to circumstances beyond your control. But now, since lot of embassies are either still closed or backed up due to covid, I believe the embassies are extending the validity automatically. If not, one may send a reinstatement letter to the consulate.

Typically they will ask you things like how did you meet, how long have you known each other, what does your USC fiance do for a living, where does he live, etc. I haven't heard of them asking what work you will be doing if you get the visa and go to the US. But if they do, tell them what you stated here - that you are taking time off until you get the EAD or GC.
Good luck!
Thank you Steve. I will stick to the truth.

this would not be an issue. you are way overthinking this, just focus on having quality evidence for proving the bonafide relationship.
Thank you @Bajinga As I was writing this, it felt like I was may be overthinking and overdoing it. yes, we will definitely work on providing a strong proof of relationship.

Is the employer okay with delaying your employment for the 8+ months it will take for you to get your EAD?
My company offers sabbatical for 12 months(for valid reasons) in your lifetime with the company, if you have worked there for > 5 years. I am with them for 8+ now, so I requested for the same with HR. They asked me to only apply only for 8 months for now and at the end of 8th month, I can request for an extension. And based on the reason for the extension, they will take a call then.

Everyone, A comment on VJ Facebook post prompted this thought a couple of hours ago. I work in IT industry, we filed our petition in Dec'20 and in March 2021 I spoke to HR about the situation. To our delight, I was approved 8-10 months of sabbatical to finish the process and join them in the US, once I have my EAD. I will start the sabbatical if/when the visa is approved/issued. We were going to be honest about this if the question were to come up, but a couple of posts in FB stating any question related to "job" in K1 interview can be very tricky, had me confused. The confusion is now changing into fear when I think about the two points below -
1. I won the H1B Lottery last year, one month before President Trump announced the ban on the new H1B visas.
2. My Fiancé also works in IT industry, in fact he was the Manager(on the client end, not direct report) for the team I was leading here between 2016-2020. This is how we met in the first place.
Will telling the truth here work against our favor? Would all these factors combined somehow make it seem like we are doing this just for the "Job". Am I overthinking this? I have a feeling that I may be, but we already a red flag of "large Age gap", so anything new that comes up that may add to it, just makes me lose my sleep. I now have grey hairs, thanks to this draining process. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!
