This is interesting news if the Senator's office got it right, because the K-1 is a hybrid visa -- a "strange animal," as an immigration lawyer/former consul told me. It's a nonimmigrant visa with immigrant intent, which is why the K-1 is processed by the Immigrant Visa units at the consulates. I'm intrigued that the State Department is treating it leniently.
