Undecided future voter - Please help?
TBoneTX replied to Visitor User's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
Very good historical point that merits being brought up. There may be less material available on another example: in 1912, former Pres. Theodore Roosevelt entered the presidential race very late, on the "Bull Moose" ticket, against Pres. William Howard Taft. Roosevelt's entrance split the Republican vote and put the evil Woodrow Wilson in the White House -- one of the biggest disasters in U.S. history. There are bad presidents and evil ones, and I call Wilson out as even more evil than Obama. -

Accountability begins, finally. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Former Uvalde Police Chief in Custody, Facing Charges for Response to Robb Elementary School Shooting Former Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pedro "Pete" Arredondo and another former officer are facing charges of child endangerment for their response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in 2022. Arredondo was reportedly in custody at the Uvalde County jail. These are the first criminal charges against law enforcement officers in connection with the shooting. Wella, wella! ~~~~~~~~~ Judge Cannon's Latest Ruling May Have Shot Down One Trump Claim but It's Likely Giving Jack Smith Ulcers We knew Judge Aileen Cannon likely wouldn't rule right away on the multiple motions heard before her over the past week in the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump. The issues are complicated, and there are a lot of moving parts in the case. So when I first saw the headline: "Cannon rejects Trump claims FBI botched Mar-a-Lago search," I was a bit surprised at the swiftness of the ruling. And I figured Trump and his legal team were likely disappointed with the ruling. Then I took a closer look (always recommended). Five Major SCOTUS Decisions Expected This Summer
TBoneTX replied to TBoneTX's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
Yes -- important, and a relief to see! Here's a more pessimistic post, part of some of mine from the VJ server changeover, recovered and posted here: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Supreme Court Is Not Going To Save You The Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling in Murthy v. Missouri dropped Wednesday, shattering the hopes of conservatives that maybe, just maybe, the Judicial Branch would stand up for the First Amendment rights of ordinary Americans against the egregious abuses of the executive bureaucracy. But no. The Court instead ruled that the plaintiffs lacked standing because the Biden White House allegedly backed off of its censorship campaign after the 2022 midterms (it didn't). The ruling essentially allows the federal government to continue trampling on the First Amendment rights of ordinary Americans by deputizing social media companies to do what federal agencies cannot do directly: police what Americans are allowed to say online. Guys, see explanation/apology for why some debate-related posts have been split from this more general thread and moved to the Debate thread. Here is one of mine from last night that got put on the old server. I managed to get it back and am reposting it now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, Democrats Can Replace Biden - With Newsom or Anyone They Want. Here's How. [...] Under the DNC's Call for Convention, it's essentially impossible for Biden to be replaced at the convention against his will because of the rules related to pledged delegates. He'd have to drop out. However, there's a provision allowing the DNC to replace the nominee for President or Vice President after the convention occurs in the event of "death, resignation, or disability of a nominee." [...] The document doesn't specify how that disability needs to be certified or who makes the determination of disability, but after Biden's abysmal performance and the panic setting in among the Democrat ruling class, it stands to reason that DNC leadership will construe that section in the manner that allows them to replace Biden. [...] https://redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2024/06/28/yes-democrats-can-replace-biden-with-newsom-heres-how-n2176094

Guys, some debate-specific posts have been split from the master "2024 Elections/Candidates/etc." thread and posted in this Debate thread, which will soon die down and give way to the master thread again. This post-splitting may strike you as hair-splitting, but hopefully you can forgive it as a small part of recovering from the server switchover. I'm still replacing missing posts and a little other stuff. Thanks for understanding.

Captain Ewok graciously saved a bunch of my posts that had gone to the old server. Here are some about the Bidementia debate. ======================================================== Huh -- the liberals are panicking over the debate. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Fumbling Performance, and a Panicking Party President Biden hoped to build fresh momentum for his re-election bid by agreeing to debate two months before he is formally nominated. Instead, his halting and disjointed performance on Thursday night prompted a wave of panic among Democrats and reopened discussion of whether he should be the nominee at all. Over the course of 90 minutes, a raspy-voiced Mr. Biden struggled to deliver his lines and counter a sharp though deeply dishonest former President Donald J. Trump, raising doubts about the incumbent president's ability to wage a vigorous and competitive campaign four months before the election. Rather than dispel concerns about his age, Mr. Biden, 81, made it the central issue. Democrats who have defended the president for months against his doubters — including members of his own administration — traded frenzied phone calls and text messages within minutes of the start of the debate as it became clear that Mr. Biden was not at his sharpest. Some took to social media to express shock at his troubles, while others privately discussed among themselves what it would mean for the party and whether it was too late to persuade the president to step aside in favor of a younger candidate. [...] https://archive.is/JG5xs#selection-705.0-717.512 And here... ~~~~~~~~~~~ Dems freak out over Biden's debate performance: 'Biden is toast' [...] Biden's rambling answers provided Trump multiple opportunities to jump in with retorts. At one point, after an answer ostensibly on immigration, Trump said, "I don't know what he said at the end there. I don't think he knows what he said." The president's performance was widely panned online and will likely reinforce the impression that he's lost a step. The 81-year-old president's age has long been a liability, with poll after poll showing even many Democrats concerned about his age. [...] https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/27/biden-debate-opening-concerns-00165595 This one seems a little too gloating to me, but who knows? And I suppose there were some "gotcha" attempts by the moderators. ~~~~~~~~~~~ After Debate Win, Pondering Trump's First 100 Days Donald Trump easily won Thursday's debate, besting a sputtering, often-incoherent Joe Biden who had little to offer the American people but fumbled talking points and bluster. In contrast, a confident and relaxed Trump offered a way back to the Three Fat Years of economic growth and peace that punctuated his presidency while sidestepping irrelevant "gotcha" issues that matter to the political class but not to average voters. Trump easily jumped traps that CNN's operatives attempted to set for him. He turned a question about the January 6 riot into a comparison between America then versus America now. He flipped a gotcha question about abortion to spotlight Democrats' advocacy for late-term abortion. Biden twice fumbled responses to this sole issue that is supposed to be Democrats' ace up the sleeve. Trump even sounded unifying on the matter. Wow! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tractor Supply Co. Ditches Everything Woke, Declares It Won't Ever Touch DEI or Pride Celebrations While some corporations don't seem capable of figuring out that the American people aren't into woke policies and DEI initiatives, Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) seems to have deduced the secret code into keeping customers, and possibly even expanding their base. According to Filmmaker and journalist Robby Starbuck, TSC was found to have given $100,000 to an activist group that "worked around the clock" to stop deportations under the Trump administration. The group was called "Conexion Americas" and was previously headed by the National Council of La Raza, a George Soros funded organization. When Starbuck broke the news, Hal Lawton was inundated with posts from angry customers, causing him to lockdown his X account. Meanwhile, the company lost over $2 billion in market cap. After some silence by the company, it released a statement on Thursday that wasn't just a step back from the leftism the company had engaged in. It threw the car in reverse and slammed on the gas pedal. It made a list of five promises to its customers. Squad Gives 21 Fire Alarm Salute For Their Fallen Comrade Jamaal Bowman [...] The Squad chose to honor him with a fire alarm salute because of his propensity for pulling fire alarms to delay votes. BREAKING: Hamas Loses House Seat To Democrats NEW YORK, NY — In a stunning primary election defeat suffered by incumbent Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Hamas lost one of its seats in the U.S. House of Representatives to a Democrat. Though Hamas still controls valuable seats held by other lawmakers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, and Ayanna Pressley, the loss of Bowman's seat to the Democrats was seen as a serious blow. This is NOT the Babylon Bee. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Denmark Taxes Cow Farts Because Everything Is Absurd In today's stupidest news, the tiny Scandinavian nation of Denmark will impose the world's first greenhouse gas tax on livestock farmers — with the accent on "gas." Beginning in 2030, Danish farmers will be taxed for "the greenhouse gases emitted by their cows, sheep, and pigs" via their rear ends. The gasses, not the taxes. The taxes come from Copenhagen's rear end. Taxation Minister Jeppe Bruus, according to the AP report, said the country aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 30% of 1990 levels by 2030. And they'll achieve that goal, at least in part, by taxing cow farts. [...] https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2024/06/26/denmark-taxes-cow-farts-because-everything-is-absurd-n4930159

IDF Destroys Perfectly Good Bicycle Fadi Al-Wadiya was just riding his bike to the Doctors Without Borders clinic Tuesday morning when he was killed by the IDF in an attack in Gaza City. We trust Doctors Without Borders as much as we do UNRWA, United Nations relief workers who held Israeli hostages in their homes and were present on October 7. Knowing Pallywood, this probably isn't even his bike, but it's a shame that it got ruined. [...] https://twitchy.com/brettt/2024/06/26/idf-destroys-perfectly-good-bicycle-n2397704

VAWA, Part 27
TBoneTX replied to TBoneTX's topic in Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigration Benefits
It's still Wednesday in a couple of time zones, so there's still time for our Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DIET A man burst into a doctor's office. He had a banana in his left ear, a rutabaga in his right ear, and a carrot up his nose. "What's the matter with me, Doc?!" he cried. "You're not eating properly," said the doctor. -
We've not discussed this outcome. The thoughts here seem reasonable; what do you think? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Few Parting Thoughts on Julian Assange This appears to be the end of a saga that has now dragged on for nearly fifteen years. Julian Assange is back in Australia after pleading guilty to conspiring to obtain and disseminate classified information. That admission was part of a plea deal that had been worked out between Assange, the UK, and the United States. He will not serve any additional time behind bars for his actions. So is this justice? Five Major SCOTUS Decisions Expected This Summer
TBoneTX replied to TBoneTX's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
One down, in both senses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SCOTUS Green-Lights Feds' Big Tech Censorship Scheme Ahead Of 2024 Election The U.S. Supreme Court reversed a lower court's injunction prohibiting the federal government from colluding with Big Tech companies to censor posts it doesn't like, effectively green-lighting the Biden administration's ability to carry out such operations during the 2024 election. "To establish standing, the plaintiffs must demonstrate a substantial risk that, in the near future, they will suffer an injury that is traceable to a Government defendant and redressable by the injunction they seek. Because no plaintiff has carried that burden, none has standing to seek a preliminary injunction," Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote for the court's majority.
