How are embassies able to find out if people get married secretly while filing for K1? or do they find out when people end up disclosing pictures on their file?
i am asking for a friend who had a small traditional marriage in Ghana and scared embassies may find out later
    thank you.

For those who have just filed your I-129f application with USCIS, this thread has been created for your needs and for you to be with others experiencing different aspects of this journey. This is a place to ask questions and to share experiences. All are here to learn together. Good luck because this is a long process currently running 5-6 months from filing date for your NOA2 approval.

    https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/K1_Process_V11.pdf

Also, since your application will go through a number of background checks this is a primer on what goes on with the background process.

I know it really sucks, but the best way to get through this is to lower your expectations and try not to compare your timeline to anyone else's. Don't forget that the people here on Visa Journey represent a tiny percentage of all the petitions the CSC has to work through! When someone gets to your file you'll hear from them. Stay busy, talk a lot with your fiancé about non-visa stuff, don't forget to hang out with your friends, take up a new hobby, go to a sporting event, and your time will come! Good luck

The explanation why is it taking so long.

No. Copies for the submission is fine. When you get closer to your interview the P3 interview document requirements will outline if original will be needed at the interview.

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

    Thanks

    For everyone.

Can I share somethings with you that I learned long ago about this process?

        • "the man with the gold makes the rules"
        • it will take as long as it will take
        • no one with any certainty can tell you when some process will be completed
        • Your sense of urgency will never be equaled to what USCIS, NVC or your embassy demonstrates
        • Your journey is not going to mirror someone else's experience - yours and theirs are not the same
        • They only promised you a YES or NO answer. Never an exact time that their decision would be completed
        • Lowering your expectations will make you a much more relaxed individual

    Good luck on your journey

To have annulment you must be annulling something. In this case he was married but he fit the requirements that he could get an annulment. In the eyes of USCIS that's still a marriage but instead of a divorce it's an annulment which will require the annulment document be present for the process. Don't overthink just literally answer the questions. Much safer.

The truth should be your guiding light. If they were once married and the question is asked, then the answer is previously married. If the question has stated to answer with single as a choice and not previously married, then single would be your choice. The questions must be answered literally with what they are asking. You're not single if you were married before.

I lean on the side for "divorced" as there were previous marriage documents created......and a marriage was dissolved.
