JB&CP reacted to pooj97 in Beyond frustrated with Montreal
So after having initial hope that the embassy in Montreal was going to start opening up after August 14th, my fiancé and I kept calling to confirm. Today we just got news from them that they’ve cancelled all interviews for August and this August 14th date was wrong. They say they don’t know when they’ll start back up for visa processing.

I’m honestly getting so frustrated at this point. I’ve started to call my representatives and senators so let’s see where that goes. After a long 4 years of long distance and seeing my fiancé only twice a year, I just wanted to move in  and start our life Together but looks like there’s low chances of that happening in 2020. Has anyone else called them today? Any chance the operator we called just had the wrong info?
  2. Thanks

It takes 5-7 months from NOA1 to NOA2. I wouldn’t call till after the seven month mark.
I’m at 160 days since NOA1 with no RFE or NOA2 yet. It just takes time.

Congratulations! I've been following this thread because our NOA1 was Feb. 24. Hopefully soon for us.

I don't believe this schedule relates to K1. Someone correct me if I'm wrong😊

6 months in the process but we've been long distance for 5 years before that when we were students in university. We couldn't apply for the process then since we were both studying. I applied for him to come here as soon as we graduated. Please don't judge if you don't know the whole story.

This is correct. I think the former poster was talking about spousal visas (CR-1). K-1 interviews usually didn't take as long pre-Covid and I saw people getting interviews on average 2 months maybe 3 months max after submitting P3

Just got DQ'ed yesterday and in a long line of people waiting at MTL. I flew out from Vancouver to NYC yesterday and to my surprise during my layover in Seattle, most of the businesses were open. I hope with the virus cases pretty much contained in Canada, they can resume the interviews.

I hope since other categories such as employment visas put on hold, they can focus on reducing backlog for CR1/IR1 and K1. But again that's a wishful thinking.

I didn’t think Montreal was 6-8 month wait, everyone else I seen only waited 4 months at the longest most got an interview within 2-3 months of their NOA2, but even still I think you’re right and  next year is more realistic.

Yes it was a 6m wait before COVID.  Not sure if it was that long for K1 though, since they book their own appointments. Montreal has been struggling the last couple years.

Montreal was a 6 week from submitting P3 to scheduling interview before covid, for K1 visa interviews. Spousal visas are a different timeline.

I have actually found this thread quite good (not much speculation) mostly just people stating whether They have been able to schedule and follow through with the interview or get cancelled As well as messages they receive from senators, DoS, embassies, etc.

It says London but people from other embassies have been chiming in and it is pretty active.

As I remember, Montreal and Mexico were experiencing backlogs before the virus.  I can only assume the wait will be significantly longer now.

What I was seeing reported was a minimum of 6 months pre-COVID, and often longer.

I just ran some numbers via the VJ timeline search. https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/filterlist.php?cfl=
I limited it to IR-1/CR-1 visas through Montreal with a NOA2 between March 1st, 2019 through March 1st, 2020 (just to eliminate any sort of COVID interruption).
The average timeframe between NOA2 and interview for those individuals was 277 days, or roughly 9 months. I would chalk up about 2-3 months tops for NVC processing to get DQ.

One positive sign is that Canada is being super strict in trying to contain the spread of the virus, and it is working, so the likelihood of Montreal opening up again is better than embassies/consulates in many countries, like Brazil, where the virus is spreading very quickly right now.  So that's a positive for Canada, for what it's worth.  I always say plan for the worst, hope for the best, then you won't be too disappointed if the interview is scheduled for late next year or even 2022.  Until there's an effective vaccine, things will continue to be very uncertain and predictions will vary widely depending on who you talk to.  Good luck!
