Hi all,
I wanted to get some community thoughts on hiring a lawyer to help with the CR1 visa. I know that it’s possible to complete the visa completely on your own, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to hire a lawyer/if anyone had an comments on their experience either filing alone or with help. The reasons I’m considering a lawyer, or a website to check the paperwork, is because I’m hoping it will make the process be a little faster/simpler and I was looking at trying to expedite the process. Any thoughts/stories are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Unless you have something that would complicate things like a previous conviction or entrance ban, the entire process can be done yourself as the likely majority of active forum users here will tell you. Save yourself the money, you'll want it for moving costs.

"From" is when you first started. "To" is when you finished. What you've written looks correct.

Depends what country of your US embassy.
Also depends on the type of visa you are applying for.

Unfortunately, you are responsible for keeping your own Green Card safe, and in fact I think you're actually supposed to carry it will you at all times.
This.
As per https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-we-grant-your-green-card
QuoteIf you are a permanent resident age 18 or older, you are required to have a valid Green Card in your possession at all times.

We have another consult tomorrow with another firm and we will see what they have to say.
What is that saying about doing the same thing over again hoping for a different outcome...

Just a note that laminating originals can make them really difficult to photocopy due to glare

Good luck trying to prove they are specifically ignoring your email and not just backlogged with other emails/applications.

At this point it may be valuable to consult a reputable immigration attorney for advice on your situation. Sounds like you have some damage control to do.

- Don't take any shortcuts.
- Start preparing all of your evidence of your relationship.
- Be ready to request police certificates from anywhere you've lived over 6 months from the age of 16 onwards.

CEAC site will say Refused but that is just while the embassy does additional processing after the interview
This line is very important. A lot of people get upset when they read this thinking they have been denied but it's just a placeholder until all the information is gathered.

The embassy will email you with your interview details.
Depending on the work load at the embassy, the interview date you receive may be several months in the future.

This is such an easy fix (take a new photo), why risk an RFE?

Diabetes will not be an issue for your medical.

What does it say on her police certificate? She'll need it anyway.

Remember that the Visa waiver is just that - waiving any right to a visa.

I can't speak for all cases or embassies but in mine, 20 days.

Paying for additional suitcases will be much cheaper than paying for shipping.

2019 is a LONG TIME AGO. If you have the means, there is a lawyer Josh Goldstein who claims to have filed lawsuits and won against Islamabad to get them moving forward. What he says is that often in Muslim countries they just delay you forever. I contacted his office, and got an appointment with one of his associates, but they said they couldn't help me because they only do marriage based and mine was a fiance. Anyways, you are WAY PAST the reasonable time period, hiring a lawyer to file a lawsuit to speed it up might be worth it.
Anyways, keep us posted, curious to see how things turn out.
Based on OP's timeline, 2019 is not "WAY PAST". Long, but not abnormal.

Im sorry I was looking for a more specific answer, and maybe you don’t feel comfortable sharing that information. I was basically asking on what grounds were you granted an expedite?
I was granted my expedite due to a family medical emergency (not Covid) that I could prove through letters from multiple doctors/hospitals.

Corrected statement regarding conditions for country of current residence
According to https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html under the section for police certificates, you only need to submit police certificates from your current country of residence if you've lived there for more than 6 months (if different from you nationality) and other countries you lived in for more than 12 months however, if you were arrested in any of those countries, you will need to provide a police certificate irregardless of how long you were there
