    I used the website transferwise

    Sent to my wife's bank

    Worked well for me

We have been using Transferwise as well for the past two years and have always had a great experience. Their currency conversion rates and transfer fees are very reasonable IMO. The amounts we exchanged so far have never exceeded $5,000, so we will probably explore all options before he moves here just to be sure. Good luck with your journey, OP!

Sorry if this sounds silly, but which choice should I select for "User Type"? My fiancé and I are doing the K-1 visa and I am the American citizen.

Thank you for a positive outlook! It's definitely a tough journey ahead. When you say proof of funds, does that mean proof of a job or just proof of money to last the 5 months? My biggest fear is getting denied entry and dealing with that. Could a person attempt to get another flight and not get denied entry later that day or week even? From my understanding there is no laws against extending the flight to the max once yous arrive to your destination, hence why I'm asking.

CBP asked to see proof of how much money he had in his bank account. I suppose it was to determine whether or not he could afford a five month long visit, but I could be wrong. I wish he could come visit since the K-1 process will take longer than expected, but I am sure they will deny him entry because we have a pending I-129F which presents intent to immigrate. Thankfully France is offering the laissez-passer for international couples, so I am hoping to visit him in December.

  4. My French fiance used his B visa to visit me for 5 months last year. He was very honest with CBP about his intentions. They asked for his return ticket as well as proof of funds. He got sent to a room for additional questioning, but they eventually let him through. Honesty is the best policy in my opinion. There is a chance you get refused entry, but being dishonest and getting caught is far worse.

We are K-1 filers as well and know that we have a long road ahead of us due to everything that is going on at the moment. While I understand that it is very difficult to be away from your lover, try to prioritize long term success over short term gratification. Later on you will be happy you did things the legal and honest way to avoid any potential negative consequences.

I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming trip and your visa application as well!

  5. There have been some posts in the K-1 visa Facebook groups from beneficiaries in France. Most have mentioned that their interviews have been repeatedly rescheduled since March. Someone also posted a screenshot of an email from the US Embassy in Paris stating that they are not processing K-1 visas at this time unless you are exempt from the Schengen area proclamation. I am not sure if this is accurate information or not, I am just relaying what I have seen/heard from other applicants. Sending you positive thoughts and well wishes during these hard times.

I wouldn't recommend the K-1 route under normal circumstances, and definitely not under the current circumstances. Everything seems very "up in the air" right now, and the K-1 visa is already putting the beneficiary in a crappy situation as it is with not being able to do much of anything while waiting for the EAD and/or greencard after entering the US. Imagine if the virus causes an insane amount of backlog, what are you going to do in the US if your work authorization takes a year or maybe even more? And if your greencard takes another 2 years? Nah, too risky for me personally, I wouldn't do it. Definitely get married and file for the CR-1 instead.

This exact reason has me wishing we went for the spousal visa instead. Who knows how long this pandemic is going to back things up for. I feel like we could be facing delays for years at this point. Sigh. 😔

  7. Hi Duchess :) Just wanted to say it is nice to read about another couple on here who met through video games! My fiance from France and I met the same way. We personally chose to use a local immigration lawyer, but I know many others have had success without one. At the current moment we are waiting on the NOA2 for our I-129F. Hoping for sooner rather than later, but remaining patient. Good luck!

*Correction* 18! Approved in 5 days (Some trickled in updates this weekend) Even better, whoo whoo!, yeah congrats for those who received their approvals and are on to the next stages, best of luck as you move forward all! :)

Is it normal to see your estimated approval date being pushed later every day? Mine originally started at July 28th and is now currently at September 24th. Every day it gets 1-4 days later than yesterday's date. I am kind of new to the website so just trying to understand how that works.

This is good news if they are looking to reopen then. They could have continued with their suspension for much longer.

This! I was worried it could go on for months. I am not anywhere near the interview portion of the process, but I am sure it will provide some level of reassurance to those who are waiting to schedule/re-schedule their interviews.

(iv)    any alien who is the spouse of a United States citizen

So I suppose spousal visas will not be affected but fiancé visas will? As far as I understand a "spouse" is considered a husband or wife, not just a partner. Can anyone confirm?

That is exactly what my wife and I did.  We worked on her DS-260 together from different locations.

This! When my fiancé applied for his B2 Tourist Visa I helped him complete his DS-160. He did mark "Yes" to that question on the bottom of the form. No questions were asked about it during the interview. Obviously this is a different visa, but either way it seems reasonable to say you helped them answer if they didn't understand some of the questions.

  12. When I submitted my petition I grouped items based on each trip (i.e. boarding passes, hotel receipts, etc.). However, I kept the photos in a separate stack and wrote the date, location, and who was in the photo on the back.

All go to California unless there is a VAWA or other issue.

Looks pretty complete.  I'd leave out the wedding invitation and dress.  You wouldn't want someone to think you were already married.

I was thinking the same. I would stick to using terms like "engagement" and "proposal" rather than "wedding" or "married". Most people have the common sense to see those things are all future plans, but you don't want to give them any reason to get confused.

    Scan and email,  print locally

My fiancé took his pictures locally at an automated machine. He took pictures of the pictures and emailed them to me. Had to do a bit of editing on the Walgreens photo center website but it came out pretty good. Printed it on photo paper (wallet size) and trimmed off the excess white border. Hoping they accept it. Afterwards he sent them in the mail just in case.
