The visa + CBP entry stamp serves as the temporary green card, which is equivalent to a plastic green card for all legal purposes, including travel. This note will be printed on the visa itself -- "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR." In case it's not clear, I-551 = green card, and endorsement = CBP entry stamp.

There's a VJ member whose beneficiary got the visa on hand, then the visa got revoked a week after, then got DS-5535. Still on AP after a year.

*** Moved from Emigrating Outside the US forum to Diversity Visas forum *** No one is actually approved until the CEAC status turns "Issued". What is your case status on CEAC?

Good point, especially since COs at the US embassy in Manila require all civil & financial support documents to be updated and uploaded into CEAC prior to the interview. Even if the applicant brings the new document to the interview, the CO will likely issue a 221(g) letter anyway if the scan of the document is not uploaded to CEAC already.

Look into having your parents' marriage registered. There's no exception to the marriage certificate requirement as it seems marriages can be late-registered in India under the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act. From https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/India.html -- Registration Criteria: Prior to 2006, marriages by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, or Sikhs were not required to be registered, but may have been voluntarily registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955. As of 2006, it is mandatory to register all marriages. In India, a marriage can either be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act of 1954. For marriages registered at government offices under the Special Marriage Act, the certificate will be issued by the Registrar only if the bride and groom personally appear before the official and pay the required fee. For other marriages that are required to be registered with government authorities under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955, registration criteria vary by authority. Procedure for Obtaining: Varies for each authority. Certified Copies Available: There are no certified copies available. Alternate Documents: See comments section. Exceptions: None Comments: Hindu Marriage Act is applicable to Hindus, whereas the Special Marriage Act is applicable to all citizens of India irrespective of their religion. Please note that marriages by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, or Sikhs may be voluntarily registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.

Conflicting Steps Post-"READY"-Status
Chancy replied to Sha-Lee88's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Each consulate has their own preferences for the procedures after the K1 case is transferred out of NVC. You will need to follow the instructions specific to the consulate in Ghana. What K1 applicants at other consulates do would not apply to you. The visa medical is valid for 6 months at most (could be less). Your visa validity will be tied to the medical date. -

If she's able to re-schedule via USTravelDocs, go ahead. Not sure about the number of re-schedules allowed before you are required to pay a new MRV fee, so just be careful that you don't re-schedule too many times.

Contact SLEC and ask if you can get an earlier appointment to complete your medical. If not, you will need to re-schedule your visa interview to after July 16. Based on what you said, it's unlikely that SLEC medically cleared you. So they will not send the medical exam results to USEM. Without those exam results, USEM will not let you proceed with the interview. You will likely be wasting your time if you show up to USEM on July 15. Even though K1 applicants are allowed to opt-out of the vaccinations, the panel physician at the SLEC clinic will need to agree to clear the applicant first. It sounds like OP was not medically cleared, hence the instruction to return on July 16. As far as I know, Manila's policy has always been: "no medical clearance from SLEC = no visa interview".

*** Moved from IR1/CR1 Progress Reports to AOS from K1 Visas forum *** For K1 visa holder married within 90 days of US entry, no need for I-130. Make sure to check the K1 filing category on the I-485 form, and include a copy of your I-129F approval notice with your I-485 package. I also recommend filing I-131 with the I-485. To change your first name, you will need to file a name change petition with your state court.
