  1. Our local court will not allow a name change since I am not a permanent resident/US citizen.
  2. Thank you so much for your recommendations. We will submit the forms to USCIS first and will then file the name change with our local court. Once the name change is official, will there be a cost with USCIS to update my name on the EAD or green card?
  3. I arrived to the US on a K1 visa on 5/31/2023. My husband and I got married on 6/1/2023 and we are looking to file for my adjustment of status. Does he need to file an I-130 petition for me? We will file it along with the I-485, I-864 and I-765. I applied for a social security number on 6/2/2023. I want to change my legal name (change my first name and take my husband's last name). Social security agreed to change my last name but not my first name. Do I have to just file a name change with a local court or can I change my legal name with USCIS directly? Please re categorize this post if needed. Thanks in advance.
  4. Thank you so much for your input. The embassy in Paraguay requires us to provide confirmation that all of the documents have been gathered, including the medical exam prior to being able to pay the fee and set up a date. Hopefully it isn't beyond the six months
  5. Things move rather quickly with NVC and the local embassy. Today we got an email with instructions and required documents from the embassy (police certificate, medical exam) in order to set up an interview date. Does anyone know the time validity of medical examinations? We are worried that we might get a date far down this year.
  6. Today we received the letter from the NVC (dated 3/28/2023) indicating that the case was forwarded to the local embassy. We also checked the Visa Status Check on CEAC's website and as of today 4/3/2023, the case is "Ready". How does a local embassy typically communicate with petitioner/fiance? Is an email to the local embassy helpful? Are K1 interview appointments set up by the embassy or do applicants have to do this?
  7. We received notification that USCIS generated the NOA2 02/09/2023. We have been contacting NVC to check on the status of the remittance of the case since 3/10/2023 Today we received an email from Asknvc indicating our case number, invoice ID and beneficiary ID and that the visa petition was forwarded to the Embassy today. The Consular Electronic Application Center indicates that "K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case." Should we email the local embassy at this point or should we fill out a DS-160? Thanks for your recommendations.
  8. My fiancé and I applied for the K-1 visa with USCIS in December of 2021. The NOA2 was issued on 02/10/2023 and it arrived in the mail on 02/15/2023. I inquired with the NVC on 03/10/2023 regarding the receipt of the USCIS approval and I received a response today 03/13/2023 that no records of the case were received (NVC was nice and requested a copy of the I-797 to advocate to USCIS on my behalf). I then called USCIS to find out if the approval of the I-129F was remitted to the NVC and was told to wait 120 days before inquiring about the status of the file transfer 😰 Any recommendations on how to follow up to ensure that USCIS remits the file to the NVC? What can one expect about the file transfer from USCIS to NVC? Thank you for any input on this
