  1. Got RFE for medicals today. Vawa approved last May. Does this still mean no interview these days? Also how long after you submitted your medicals was your green card approved?

I hope this means my journey is almost over... my thief of a civil surgeon is charging a whole $700 for that medical but i just don't have it in me to fight this or travel to somewhere else to do it so whatever.

    Hello Family,

I am working on collecting all the evidences to submit for RFE, and writing self statement. Do I need to hire an Attorney. I am not sure if i should, after hearing so many of horror stories. has anyone done all of it on their own, without attorney? and how much an Attorney would cost. Thanks in advance.

did it myself with @sandranj's help and read almost all past vawa threads. 3pfs, no rfe, approved last year. waiting for gc now.

Sunday means that it's time for our stress-relieving Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

    ==============================================
    THE FIRST JEWISH PRESIDENT

In 2032, the United States elected the first woman as well as the first Jewish president, Sarah Goldstein.  She called her mother a few weeks after Election Day and said, "So, Mom, I assume you'll be coming to my inauguration?"

"I don't think so.  It's a 10-hour drive, your father isn't as young as he used to be, and my arthritis is acting up again."

"Don't worry about it, Mom -- I'll send Air Force One to pick you up and take you home.  And a limousine will pick you up at your door."

"I don't know.  Everybody will be so fancy-schmantzy; what on earth would I wear?"

Sarah replied, "I'll make sure that you have a wonderful gown, custom-made by the best designer in New York."

"Honey," Mom complained, "you know I can't eat those rich foods that you and your friends like to eat."

Sarah responded, "Don't worry, Mom.  The entire affair is going to be handled by the best caterer in New York; kosher all the way.  Mom, I really want you to come."

So Mom reluctantly agreed, and on January 20, Sarah Goldstein was being sworn in as President of the United States.  In the front row sat the new President's mother, who leaned over to a senator sitting next to her and whispered, "You see that woman over there with her hand on the Torah, becoming President of the United States?"

The senator whispered back, "Yes, I do."

Her mom flushed with pride and said, "Her brother is a DOCTOR!"

    :P

looool i'm the doctor in this scenario so everyone from my siblings to my cousins and nieces/nephews, even close family friends, all hate me for this reason because my parents/their parents won't give it a rest.

    Hello,

I applied for vawa and received EAD/AP have a valid h1b that I am currently using to work. I want to travel and my vawa attorney is recommending to travel on vawa Advance parole and instead of my h1b. He says if i re-enter on h1b, I will abandon my vawa i485 application and so does one more lawyer but I have a valid status (h1b). I consulted with one other attorney and she said since I already have a valid status I should be able to travel on my h1b visa without abandoning my i485 through vawa. I also read on CBP site (link below) that I can travel on h1b visa with approved AP on based on pending 485. Anyone in the same situation ? please help .

is there a reason you don't want to just use the AP?

I didn't have h1b but i had an f1. Used it till it expired then moved to AP but I also never mentioned the AP/vawa application to them at the border at all.

How do you find somewhere to get a psych evaluation? What are the criteria that USCIS are looking for for this? How long does it take to complete? I work in a seasonal town in the North East, and work 6 days a week, so its very difficult to get significant time off work to travel for it.

Found someone online, also worked 6 days a week so i did it virtually over 3 months (jan to march 2020); 2 hour sessions each x3. paid $1000. Evaluation was super detailed with >20 pages. This forum emphasizes in person but especially now post covid, virtual is probably fine - at least it was for me.

Great! I would advise you not to change your address now as that may delay the entire process. Congratulations once again.

I know but i may not have a choice. I am starting residency soon in the midwest and we don't usually get enough time to travel so i am worried about not being able to get time off to come back for an interview that far away but i hear you, i don't want to touch anything about this application at this point. right now, i intend to leave it as is and figure out the rest later.

    Congratulations for your approval. 🍁🍁🍁👏👏👏

Sorry for re asking the same question.

Are you saying that immediately after the card production approval notice, you also recieved the notification that your Form I-485 has been transferred from Vermont to NBC?

(from Vermont to your local office)?

That is correct. Literally came 1 minute after. Not sure where it was sent though at this point because the email just said another office.

There has been a recent processing action taken on your case.

    Receipt Number: EA*****

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS

    Your Case Status: Initial Review

On May 17, 2022, we transferred your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number EAC***, to another office for processing and sent you a transfer notice.

Congrats! Did your i485 transfer immediately after you received the notice of the new card being produced? Where is your local field office?

Thanks. Yes, I got both emails back to back. Currently in the DMV area but I graduate this week and i'm moving to the midwest soon so still weighing the pros and cons of changing my address now.

Hi guys, I'm new here and still learning how to navigate the site.

Wondering if anyone here applied to VAWA without a lawyer just DIY, and if yes a good place to find info in how to do it or if you recommend doing so or just investing in a lawyer for the case

    Thank You

did it DIY but had a lot of help from @sandranj. I went back and read all the older vawa threads i could find till I kinda got the hang of it. The application hasn't changed much since them. No approval yet, 3 PFs, 2EADs and no RFE (don't worry these words will make sense as you start reading) but yeah, if you have the time and think it is something you can do, go for it - if not, find a good lawyer. so many of them just want your $ and actually know nothing about this.

    Good day all,

I sent in my (I-360) mail to this address

    USCIS Vermont Service Center
    30 River Road
    Essex Junction, VT 05452-3808

    Instead of this

    USCIS Vermont Service Center
    38 River Road
    Essex Junction, VT 05479-0001.

Will it cause a delay or any problem?

Call USPS and try to change it if it hasn't been delivered. Those are very different addresses, if it isn't lost, they may be able to at least return it to you

Oo.. a doctor in the making! In that case, my advice is worth $500, will send invoice later ;)  Congratulations and best wishes for your residency journey. Also please tell everyone in your residency program that correlation = causation. I have it on authority of  @TBoneTX

Also USCIS issued recent guidance, adding healthcare workers to their expedite criteria. From USCIS website:

{ ALERT: If you are a healthcare worker

    • Who has a pending Employment Authorization Document (EAD) renewal application (Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization); and
    • Whose EAD expires within 30 days or less, or has already expired:

    Call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833) to request expedited processing of your EAD based on your circumstance as a healthcare worker with an EAD that will expire within 30 days or has already expired. To determine whether you are a qualifying healthcare worker, see this DHS advisory memorandum (“Healthcare / Public Health” section, pages 7-9) (PDF). Be prepared to provide evidence of your profession or current employment as a healthcare worker. If the evidence you provide is not sufficient, we may not accommodate your request for expedited processing of your Form I-765. Expedited processing means only that USCIS will process the application faster. }

    Website for expedite request criteria:

    https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-guidance/how-to-make-an-expedite-request

I know of at least one healthcare worker who got her EAD expedited after USCIS issued this recent guidance.

WOWZA THIS IS EXCELLENT INFO! going to do this this week. Thank you very much and still broke but hopefully that ends soon haha!
