Super Heros got a reaction from Fenja in August 2020 - AOS Filers
We had our interview today at the Alexandria office. Our officer was very nice and apologetic about our wait (we ended up waiting about 45 min past our scheduled time). We came prepared with pictures, tax returns, birth certificates, bank statements, bills, etc. we even studied interview questions and all. He just asked us the story of our meeting. How we met. How my husband proposed and about our in-laws. He didn’t ask for not one document or picture. We reviewed the questions on the K1 visa and made changes (work, address, etc) he told us the only hold up is that my husband received a ticket from driving on his international license, we go to court next week. We told the officer its almost resolved because he now has his VA license. The Officer said it’s not a huge deal, but needs to be reviewed and if he needs anything he’ll reach out, but it’s likely they won’t need anything else. We weren’t approved on the spot, but we felt  it was a positive experience. Our case was updated to interview complete/needs review by the time we reached the parking lot.

Good news! I applied for an expedited work authorization for my husband April 15th, they requested additional documents on April 16th, I sent on April 17th and the request to expedite was approved that same evening! On April 22nd received notice of EAD approval. Finally real movement. So does anyone have an idea on how long will it take for the SS card to be sent?

We just received our biometerics letter in the mail on the 29th (yay); we're scheduled for Feb 18. Thankfully no RFE, but we submitted our I-944 with the AOS package.

Hey there, we are in Maryland. My partner (K1 visa) did get an RFE for the i-944 and we sent the missing forms last month. However, no biometrics yet.

I spoke with some other people and if everything but the I-765 gets accepted, they will most likely only send the I-765 back and accept the rest since it is a non-mandatory form. Yours is a bit different since it affected the I-485. You never know though and maybe they will be nice since it is post marked on the same date. We will see!

I have got NOAs and Bio notices. Submitted in August without i944.

Oh yea, I called USCIS and spoke to two different agents before submitting. One said to submit the 944 and the other one said not to.

@partyintheUSA Yes I applied without the I-944! I send my AOS package off in July with it but got rejected and I resented it without the I-944. I got a text from USICS Sunday night with my case numbers!

Anything can happen with immigration procedures with USCIS. There is not black or white, but a grayscale: In my case, my husband and I filed concurrently I-130 and I-485, and included two checks. We did include the I-944 because we didn’t know that we didn’t have to include it. Anyway, USCIS received the package on August 1st. The check for the I-130 was cashed out on August 28th, but the check for the I-485 was not (and haven’t been cashed out yet). I chatted with them yesterday through Emma (Live Agent), because we thought they had rejected the I-485, but fortunately, a USCIS agent gave me the receipt numbers for both I-130 and I-485 and told me that they are experiencing delays (they accepted the I-485 on Aug 26th!), and for that reason, they hadn’t cashed the check for the I-485. Finally, they told me that we should receive the NOAs by the end of this week. And well, waiting also for the money to be withdrawn from the bank account for the I-485.

This is the strongest indicator to me that it's not yet required on their end, regardless of what the employee said on the phone. USCIS has updated the site since the last court ruling and did not make a change to the injunction page or provide the form for download. They've done both in the past when they required the form.

It seems more likely to me that the employee was just as confused about 944 as everyone else and therefore said "yes, it's required" because the alternatives "I don't know" and "no" (if it ends up being yes) both make them look bad. No harm in saying yes (except making a bunch of people on the internet nervous! 😂)

With the exception of @KittyKat3072 's crazy quick turnaround (did you file with 944?), we're all still comfortably in the window for not seeing any activity yet...

For you guys who did not include the I-944, I don’t think you will get a rejection notice. Given the misunderstanding regarding the I-944 and the lack of updated info on their website, you will probably get a RFIE, or who knows, maybe they won’t even ask for it. I recommend you guys to wait patiently for checks to be cashed out or for a NOA in the mail. My check was cashed on the 28th day after filing. I’m sending you all the best and positive energy. Cheer up! 🙌🏻

I know! That's why I called because I was a little confused....hopefully you guys will be able to slide through without any issues since it's seems to be such confusion around that stupid document. BTW I called around August 14th

Yep, that was the first question I asked and the rep confirmed  it was required...so I mailed it with the supported documents. Previous rejections it took them about 3 weeks to return my packet. You can call the customer service center and they'll be able to tell you if your packet was rejected and the reason or if they are still processing it. My wait time was about 25min and I called  mid-week in the middle of the day.

Thanks for providing some additional info! When I checked yesterday the date was updated under “Immigrant” still in AP. It hasn’t moved to “non-Immigrant” with a date change yet. Hopefully it will be updated by the end of the week.

Super Heros reacted to Greenbaum in In AP for 2 months - just asked for passport
The clue here is did you find that it was in AP when you checked "immigrant" or did you see it when you checked "non-immigrant" status. The two DO make a difference. The proof is in the details.

Just about everyone gets this after their interview.  Based on the discussions I had with the case officer he informed me of these steps:

the first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa (immigrant)
the first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance (immigrant)
the second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork (non-immigrant)
the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery (non-immigrant)

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house.

Once you get that second ready, it should be sent out within a few days, although we received our visa before any of the various websites that allow you to look up the status said that it had been sent out.

I wouldn't say that I grow weary of it in the 2+ years I've been here (I know you've been here longer), but I do see your point---there is a great deal of research that should be done when venturing through the immigration process.  And people should know the "basics" of any process they are taking part in---or at least try to learn the basics.

I try to remember how confused I was with the plethora of information out there when first starting out, how nervous and uptight I got over every little detail wondering "what's going to happen now?" when I see threads that seem repetitive in nature.  If it really bothers me (for whatever reason), I just skip the thread altogether.

It is not as if the Search function on this website works seamlessly. In fact, it's very easy to get sidetracked and lost in between forums.

Also, quick reminder: being a regular on an immigration DIY website does not grant anyone "special benefits". If one is not feeling patient or is "weary of newbies", posting a short but informative answer would take just as much time and energy as posting a line of sarcasm.

Good luck to the OP. Luckily it will not be long now for the visa to be issued, and the passport, returned.

Here is one tip that may result in you finding out more information about the progress of your case at the embassy is to move up to different forums. Your case has progressed and you need to post in the K1 progress forum. You are posting in the basic K1 Process and Procedures Forum, it is time for you to move up your game to more appropriate forums, such as, the K1 Case Filing and  Progress Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/128-k-1-fiancee-visa-case-filing-and-progress-reports/, where folks generally discuss the progress of their cases, not necessarily  inquiring about the basic K1 process. Another forum that you should be checking out is the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/89-africa-sub-saharan/page/2/ .  That regional forum is intended for folks to post questions and learn about specific issues about their specific countries' embassies/consulates. At that forum, there is even a very popular thread dedicated to the subject of K1 Visa Procedures for Nigeria Only. These forums have always been there, you just have to check out the VJ site, it is incumbent on you to do your research.

I suspect that many of the forum regulars, such as myself, sometimes grow weary of newbies not taking advantage of all of the great info available on this Do-It-Yourself (DIY) site. Often times newbies will take the easy, expedient route and ask a question that is asked and answered often multiple times every day. For example, one very often-asked question is about the length of time it takes to get through Administrative Processing (AP), no matter where in the immigration process. (BTW, the answer is there is no set time limit for the completion of AP.   )

Good luck on your immigration journey.
