HarryWL reacted to futurecoloradogrl in Oath Ceremony Questions
Updating with my experience for reference just in case anyone in future has similar questions! Thrilled I finally did it, officially became a citizen and got my certificate, feels weird that the 5 years of stress is over with & might take a while to get used to.

    - Guests: I took my partner and two friends with me, my partner had to show his driver's licence and friends showed their UK passports to the security officer with no issues. It was really special getting to have them there.

    - GC combo approval: as mentioned in my reply above, the card got produced and arrived days before the ceremony, and I handed it in when checking in.

    - Outfit: I'd originally set aside a long lightweight dress and dressy sandals to wear, but Florida decided to be properly cold so I wore a sweater and skirt with boots and no one said anything. The most casual outfits I saw were an American print button-up shirt with vintage style jeans (loved it!) and a trendy zip-up jacket with wide leg jeans. Men were mostly wearing suits, and women were either wearing some kind of suit-style outfit, or a modest style dress in various designs. My guests were flying home immediately after and no one minded their jeans and sweatshirt travel outfits.

    - Successfully applied for my passport at the post office today and got quoted 2-3 weeks for express.

    - I only needed my state ID, most recent green card, and the paperwork attached to the ceremony letter which I'd already filled out at home - the letter only just arrived on Thursday, my ceremony was on Monday. Took my paperwork folders from the interview just to be safe.

    - Did get slightly told off at check-in when the desk attendant verbally confirmed some of the questions on the paperwork - I said 'yep' to one of them and was sternly told 'it's YES, not YEP'. So make sure you say 'yes' or 'no' very clearly!

Will fill out my Orlando office experience on my timeline.

"update personal information" worked for me.

Also like the person above mention, the person on the phone was zero help to me.

To security. They're the first people we saw as we entered the field office. I wanted them to be sure they would let me in, since I wasn't essential for just the N-400 interview.

My husband included the I-751 receipt with my his N-400 application and  uploaded a letter explaining that he had a pending I-751. We also mentioned it as we entered the field office on the day of his Citizenship Interview. It all went pretty smoothly!

I already have the transcripts for 2019-2022, but as it's still processing for 2018, nothing on record yet. That's what I'm hoping for, that they don't even ask to see them.

I got my PR on December 18th 2018, so I was technically a resident for 13 days. You still have to file a tax return even if you're a resident for 1 day (as I found out a few days prior to applying for citizenship). I had zero US income, but I had to declare my Canadian income and convert it into USD. I then attached a foreign income exclusion document and mailed it to the IRS. That was about 6 weeks ago, I'm going to call them in like 2 weeks to find out the status of my return. Tax returns don't really have any effect on I-751, but you need 5 years of tax returns for N-400 when you go for citizenship. I've also been waiting for my I-751 waiver since September 2020, at this point a combo interview is more likely than not.

On the plus side, if they went the CR1 route and entered after 2 years, they would be issued a 10 year green card and avoid the ROC.

Shocking how nothing has been done to fix our broken immigration system. 15-20 years to sponsor a sibling is unacceptable, total contradiction for many politicians that preach family values.

Based off my own I-751, I filed for divorce in July 2020. When I submitted my I-751 (with waiver) in September 2020, the divorce had not been finalized yet so I didn't have a decree to submit. I filed with a waiver but under the marital status section I filed married and put N/A for date marriage ended, because at this point I was still legally married. I got my decree like 2 weeks after and I waited till they asked for the additional documents. I want to say around 10 months later they issued an RFE, and requested a copy of the decree and the divorce petition, which I got from the courthouse. Couple weeks later, my status changed to ready for interview (which is where it has remained for the past 2 years).

USCIS is super slow, don't expect anything to move fast. I wouldn't worry too much about it, get the divorce started and file your I-751 when the time comes.

You are entitled to your opinion.Nigeria is the most populous African nation. It’s considered high fraud because of some bad elements. There are more honest Nigerians out there.56% of black doctors in USA are Nigerians. You can’t pick out an entire country and assume everyone is dishonest.

Ok cool. I was counting foreign earned income as self employment income subject to 15.3 percent SE tax, but I would also credit the unseen employer  contribution  of CPP tax since that is a tax that depresses wages of T-4 jobs in Canada as the SS employer contribution for W-2 jobs  does in the US

So maybe it washes out at $20K USD.
