Hi guys!

just a quick question

my husband naturalized in April 2019. If he wanted to sponsor his brother in Italy, how long would he have to wait to start the process.

their parents have passed away and his brother is there alone with now some health problems, it might be good to have him here with family.

thank you!

He can start the process now, it is a long wait so the sooner the better.

He can submit a petition any time.   Hopefully he is familiar with the visa bulletin, and realizes that F-4 visas take >15 years?

By the time a visa number is available, the health problems could likely be worse, so you’ll want to have a plan to pay for health care for the brother, since he won’t be eligible for Medicare.

20?

50?

We can all guess, I think the date has moved forward 1 months in 3 years. I think that is exceptional. I have seen various computations but a lot of unknown variables.

Maybe the category will go away altogether.

I have heard that said for many many years, does it make sense, obviously no, will it go away, I doubt it.

Shocking how nothing has been done to fix our broken immigration system. 15-20 years to sponsor a sibling is unacceptable, total contradiction for many politicians that preach family values.

LOL, how many western countries even allow for sibling immigration though?  Does the UK?

UK does not have a sibling category at all.

BINGO.

I don't get how that's relevant, we're talking about the United States.

This. If the brother has chronic health problems it will be much, much cheaper for him to remain in Italy given their excellent health care system. Anyway that's not really a concern for many years since as all others have pointed out there's a 15+ year wait.

There's no harm in putting in a petition ASAP, other than the application fee. OP's husband could have done that the second he became a citizen and then the brother would already be 3-4 years into the queue.
