GEOntificator got a reaction from Visitor User in How much did you pay your lawyer?
1k. I hired this attorney for my I-751 as well. Only reason I opted for help with N400 was my prior divorce and a traffic ticket on record. I could have easily done it myself but chose that 1K was worth my peace of mind.

Attending the interview was an additional $500. This was optional.

Earlier this year, wife's passport took 7 weeks (with expedite and 1 day shipping).  The DOS estimate was exactly correct.  Hopefully, the turn-around times have gotten better.

I had my citizenship interview today.

    1. Arrived at 9:10 for a 9:30 appointment (big mistake as it was extremely busy)
    2. Got through security at 9:25.
    3. Was called into the interview room around 9:50
      - Civic Test (my officer stopped after I answered 6 questions correctly).
      - I was asked to read a sentence.
      - I was asked to write a sentence.
      - Officer went through my application and added trips I made since my application.
      - Officer asked about Yes & No questions
      - She asked me if I had any questions and I used that opportunity to ask for a same day Oath which she granted.

    4. I was escorted back  to the waiting area at 10:06 to wait for my Oath ceremony at 11:30.
    5. I was checked in for Oath Ceremony at 11:15 and my green card was taken away for good.
    6. Oath Ceremony was completed and I got my certificate of citizenship.

I will be applying for my passport and going to the social security office on Monday. Good luck to you all.

It's unlikely. If they approved and waived you in May, you wouldn't still be waiting in Sept.

This is not the intent or purpose of the immigration process.

It seems to me that until things change (and the changes endure) in regard to her medical condition and her family's enabling her current status, you should strongly consider putting her immigration on hold.

You will need the original Naturalization Certificate and a B&W copy of the certificate.  Both will be sent away with the passport application.  You have no choice.  They will return the original to you.   I suggest making a color scan of the NC for your records.

Seems like a good case for traveling as returning residents, especially since their child is a U.S. citizen.

Logically, giving them an NTA is a waste of time because they would be able to file I-485 in that event.

Pakistani citizens require a visa for UAE. So Qatar is the better option: book a round trip to Doha, enter Qatar, book a flight to JFK.

I get beaten up here all the time for not buying into the VJ conventional wisdom that

    * it is OK for new LPRs to spend more time outside the U.S. to wrap things up

    * and so a re-entry permit is not needed

They got caught by covid and then medical issues. So a re-entry permit was needed as it turned out. At the very least, applying for one would have made a stronger case that they did not intend to abandon status.

LPR status is for living in the U.S., period.

    Please list the risks.

Get on  a plane to the U.S.

Risky. You can be denied and they take your GC as well. I would not attend.

Legally you cannot be forced to file I-407. I would not do that.

    ESTA is not for LPRs.
Legally LPRs cannot be denied entry.

Your situation comes up several times a year on VJ. In all cases when there is a report, the report is the LPR is admitted into the U.S. as a returning resident. Some times there is warning.

…. And just like that, I’m one step closer to the end!

Interview was today at 8:00 am at the USCIS Columbus Field Office. We went with my husband, but at first the officer only called me in.
I had a few corrections/ update to make, so before I was sworn in I let him know of this. He said it was ok, not a problem. So he swore me in, then started with the civics test:

    - What did MLK junior do?
    - What are two US national holidays?
    - two political parties
    - why did the colonists fight the British?
    - Name one tribe

    Forgot the other question.
The reading was: who elects Congress?
    Writing: People elect Congress.

Then we went on to the application. I made the changes / updates.
For the weapons training question, I marked “yes” because I own a gun, which my husband has been teaching me to use. I explained this, he changed the question to “no” and he added “informal”.

After I was done, he called my husband in, asked him when we got married, my full name, my DOB, his marital status. And that was it! He printed off the paper recommending me for approval on the spot.
It felt more like a casual conversation, he was professional but friendly.

Funny note: he asked me how long 751s are taking because officer’s wife has a pending one! 😂😂😂

US citizenship applications have been moving forward fast. If you apply now you are very likely to naturalize within 6-8 months. Potentially much earlier too.

Once you naturalize you can be away for as long as you want and return any time you want. You'd still need to declare and file US taxes as US requires reporting your worldwide income. You'd then likely need a seasoned accountant who know treaties and foreign tax reporting.

Sorry I can only address some parts of your question.

So my case was accepted. Got my NOAs. Biometrics were waived.

After a lot of back and forth with my attorney we are not adding taxes to our case. She flat out told me to just trust her otherwise why did I pay her. Makes sense to me.

Will keep this updates as I get more news.

    Thanks all for weighing in.
