  1. Hi All,

Hoping this will be my last immigration question EVER. I had my oath ceremony about 10 days ago, and then received my 10 year green card in the mail last week 😆. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do with it? I surrendered all my other previous cards (OPT, work permit, conditional green card) at the field office when I went for the ceremony. Thanks, and good luck to those still waiting!

Hello. anyone who applied marriage based green card from Washington DC?

I want to know you guys timeline interview.

It's been 3.5 months since "Case is ready to scheduled for an interview".

    My timeline is:

    PD: May 13 2019

    NOA1: June 05 2019

    Bio-metric:   June 25 2019

Aug 13 2019: Case is ready to scheduled for an interview.

Mine was "ready" in March, and I had my interview on November 15th. I was actually surprised because I thought it may take even longer.

Thanks for the really useful information/advice! So what process did you follow in order to apply for this? Did you have to call-in first? Or go in for an in person meeting at your local service centre? Or simply just to compile some evidence and write a cover letter and send it into somewhere?

My issue is that currently I only have one or two local clients to show that I could start work within the next month also if I wanted, but I’m not sure if that will be enough… And obviously I don’t want to contact new prospective clients where I will have to say “I can’t start work for you right away but if you could show that you would give me work so that I can get a work permit…“, as that just sounds kind of unprofessional and not worth their while when they don’t even know me yet...!

I called it in with a Tier 1 representative first and made sure to get a confirmation number. Then I waited to receive an email asking for evidence, but I never did, so I called up the immigration specialist at my local congressman's office (just called the number I found online). That person helped me by inquiring independently about my case, and then asked me to send along some evidence to support. I emailed him with 13 attachments (cover letter, a bunch of bills, job offer letters, anything I thought might help). I only had a few gigs lined up, but I explained the situation and the people hiring me made sure to say they looked forward to working with me again going into next season. Not sure what you do for a living, but as a performer we have a pretty small community with a lot of people from different countries, so people are friendly and helpful with this kind of stuff. Good luck!

I'm self-employed and have lots of offers of work from US employers but can't take any of them yet as I'm still awaiting my work permit (EAD).

Do you think there's much point in trying to expedite showing them I've got lots of offers of work or are they only interested in people who have traditional employment/job offers?

I just successfully expedited my EAD/AP based on multiple job offers as a freelance classical musician (self-employed/"independent contractor"), so you should definitely go for it! I had multiple offers of employment, including one project starting on July 6th. The letters from my potential employers stated that they are keen to work with me, and my cover letter stressed the importance of being able to accept these offers to establish a good reputation in my field. I also included separate evidence showing that I needed my AP to go back and work in Canada in August, and to attend my own wedding celebration. I sent various bills to show the financial strain that the long wait has been putting on us. I'm not sure which evidence "worked," but I wrote a detailed cover letter, and it probably also helped that I had already been waiting over 6 months. Good luck!

Filed EAD and GC for wife sometime in January; did the biometrics for EAD on 14 Feb and GC case scheduled for interview as of 13 March. VJ says our EAD estimate is August 30 - was supposed to be end of May but every week VJ estimates getting pushed back. EAD at the NBC and we’re in Washington DC.

Getting really frustrated here! C’mon USCIS. Anyone have a best guess about either form? My wife would like to work !

Another D.C. filer here! My EAD is arriving in the mail today, 3 weeks after I requested an expedite due to severe financial loss. My tip for not losing your mind is to ignore the VJ estimate. Mine said end of April/early May, and I spent the whole of May feeling depressed every day it didn't arrive. If you have a valid reason to expedite and a job offer, check out the many threads about expediting, otherwise try to enjoy the summer together and stay cool! I hope some D.C. filers start getting interviews soon...

Thanks for your advice! It's actually nice to hear the success stories too and know that at least some of us are getting some relief in this beyond frustrating process. That's what I was starting to worry about too (that they denied it and just never told me about it) but I confirmed with two different officers that there's been no decision made so I just picture my package untouched somewhere in a basement lol.

I hadn't really considered submitting a second request but I might do that in a couple of days if there's still no update. I thought I had pretty strong evidence to begin with as I'm the only employee globally in a company of ~4000 employees that has a specific specialized skill that I use pretty much every day and one of three employees that have another specialized skill. My employer wrote a letter explaining this and detailing how and why it is a financial loss for them due to the client-facing nature of the work. I also obviously provided additional evidence on my side supporting the financial loss claim for both my company and myself. So not sure what else I can provide but I guess it can't hurt to resubmit everything.. sorry about venting haha :P

You should definitely resubmit everything! Have you got the congressman's office to help? If you have the same as mine (I live in Rosslyn) then PM me for the email of the congressman's office immigration guy who helped me.

Congrats! Do you mind sharing your expedite timeline? I'm hoping to have the same update very soon.

May 31st - requested EAD+AP expedite over the phone

June 3rd - email saying they cannot expedite because I didn't send evidence (which they never asked for)

June 10th - congressman's office requested expedite directly and sent 13 pieces of evidence for me (cover letter, bills, job offer letters)

June 12th - received email through congressman's office saying "this case will be routed for expedite"

June 17th - "New Card is being Produced" for EAD case number

    Good luck!

  8. NEW CARD IS BEING PRODUCED!!!!! EAD approved after 189 days of waiting, expedited with the help of congressman's office over the past few weeks. I'll be able to start my job on July 6th and we'll be able to attend our wedding celebration in Canada this August. No words to describe the relief...I was really starting to lose my mind! Sending good vibes for everyone else still waiting ❤️

Hoping we get some good news soon! I have a friend whose status changed around the same time as yours and they just had their interview yesterday but they also filed in September so the 8.5 month estimate was accurate for them..

Ok good to know. I just hope they don't schedule it in August because I'm planning on being home in Canada for the whole month to work and to prepare for our wedding celebration on the 25th...if I get my damn EAD/AP in time that is! Would be ironic if I had to reschedule the interview 😕
