slk1995 got a reaction from Unidentified in Fiance Not On Board With K-1 Process?
    Thanks so far everyone.

I forgot to add the major problem: we USED to do frequent visits, and the nightly calls. But, my parents have threatened to kick me back out if I go visit him. So, there's a lot more to this story. He doesn't want to see me go homeless.

Thank you again. Extremely helpful to get other ways of looking at this.

The roommate dislikes me because of some "exotic and/or controversial" things I did in the past to earn money. It was all legal, but I'm pretty sure he discovered my secret a few months ago by chance. The guy has mental health and drug addiction problems; so he tends to explode. I've watched it happen countless times now. So I'd prefer to not hear the guy in our calls, either.

I don't think he honestly loves me anymore. I just really don't. I'm almost starting to believe he is out to use me to get here.

CR-1...  He could work almost immediately upon arriving in US.  But I would be willing to bet he will be unwilling to put in the work required for that either.

Okay, again..there's a whole other part of this story.

I was living out of the house for 10 months. I only moved back in July because I was living with a crazy woman who'd threaten to hit me, etc. So I had the only choice of going back to my parents', at that point. Or staying there and who knows what else.

I think you are asking questions that the forum can't really answer, and that you know the answer to already.

In our case we both worked on the documentation and application forms (and after we were married we both worked on AOS/Greencard and ROC). None of it is difficult or complicated, but it involves going through lists of documents and required information and making sure you obtain all that is required. Its time consuming, and a little daunting at first.

We had a long distance relationship but I was able to make frequent trips to the USA, and we emailed and skyped every day. We did that because we wanted to, and we hated being apart. I think that is a prerequisite for doing a k1 - if my partner was acting in the way you describe, I'd have bailed out for sure.

I was 42 when I started the k1 process, so I'd been through a lot prior to meeting my wife. One thing I learned is that it hurts to end a bad relationship, but not anywhere near as much as keeping one going. I never looked back on the bad ones and regretted them ending, even though they hurt at the time, in fact I look back and I'm so glad I didn't carry on for months or years with something that made me so unhappy. If you are even having thoughts of ending it, or giving ultimatums, then I think you've answered the question already if you are honest with yourself.

I didn't read all the replies. But I would like to add that some are better with paperwork than others. If everything else is going well between the two of you, then be a team.

If you think, however, that he is trying to signal you that he really doesn't feel like immigrating to the US: talk to him or think about going to Australia if you want to be with him?

It is a big step for both of you. And he may be leaving a lot behind.

    Communication is the key.

My husband is Australian and was working 12 hour days also but he was 100% into the process of the K1 and we also had the time zone against us.

I think this might be more of a relationship evaluation than having to do with the K1 process. It is very complicated and requires amazing and constant communicating back and forth to complete correctly for months. Not to mention the second half of the process is pretty much all on them getting federal background check, interviews, and medicals which is a lot of work and running around.

E-x-a-c-t-l-y. That's the thing. So if I can even him on the phone tonight, I'll be asking where he really stands with me. I'm getting extremely ready to move on and return to the freedom of single life.

I don't know how to break this to you nicely but he obviously doesn't care.
I was Australian and my partner and I managed to stay in contact at least once every day when we were apart.
Moving to America is a huge decision,  Australia has a better standard of living , free health care, gun control . America is not a land of opportunity for us .
The relationship has to be very strong to get through the process.
If I were you I would cut my losses and run before I spent any more of my hard earned money .
You are young and you still have your life ahead of you. Don't waste your time on an old man that lives with a roommate.

It takes two to tango. That’s all I gotta say. If he’s not willing to work on this so that you can be together, it’s unlikely the relationship will survive the madness and the stress that USCIS processing does to you. It is a pain in the a-hole and if he’s this uninterested in the beginning, then is it worth going through the process at all?

I'm definitely not interested in moving countries. He has always wanted to come here, anyway. Technically yes, me going to him would be easier..but in this case, I'm far too uncomfortable making the sacrifice. Doesn't mean I don't love him. I'm just simply not interested/never was interested in leaving America. I simply will not obtain a work or student visa; I have nothing to technically offer in that way right now, even if I wanted to make the move myself. I'll easily move out of my parents in a few months and this time, stay out.
Understandable. Definitely the co-sponsor and myself are the biggest parts of the financial requirements.

    Here is what USCIS Says:
Proof of Financial Support and Affidavit of Support Forms
During the visa interview, applicants will be required to present evidence to the consular officer that they will not become a public charge in the United States. You may present evidence that you are able to financially support yourself or that your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) is able to provide support. The Consular Officer may request that a Form I-134, Affidavit of Support be submitted by the U.S. citizen fiancé(e).
The U.S. citizen fiancé(e) will need to submit Form I-864 to USCIS with the application for adjustment of status to that of legal permanent resident following the marriage.

So I would think that he could bring all of his work and financial records himself to make the case that he will not become a public charge. Also note that most times they will not even ask for the I-134 (clearly states may  request), however you should still be prepared. Either way that is nothing to worry about until the interview stage.

Definitely feel your pain.  We can all empathize here. Fortunately, this online community exists for us going through this crazy process. That's an upside.

You're not alone. Last time I saw my Australian fiance in person was June 26th this year; just learned we won't get a second Christmas in person this year like last.

As said above, I feel like the pain of LDR's is totally surreal. You'll have your good days and your bad days. Some days, are a lot easier to accept the fact it is this way for now, but some other days, it's completely natural and okay to let yourself fall into the emotions for a bit and get it out of your system. Keep that contact with your partner up. I read a comment saying to keep yourself busy. It's definitely a true comment, and it really does make things easier to handle. Less time to become overwhelmed or sad.

But after all, at the end of the day it simply becomes about fighting the good fight of immigration. If it's meant to be, IT. WILL. COME.

And, before I submit this: my fiance's best friend once said, "If something you're trying to obtain isn't EASY to get, it probably means it will be worth it in the end." Worth it because, by accepting a challenge you become passionate about, you take on new life lessons, learn new things in general, and learn how to overcome a deep-seated obstacle. Hope this helps!

YESSSS! Thank you so much for bringing up 90 Day Fiance. xD Will chime in with my quick version of opinion on these people, and a Youtube related link (if allowed). There's this woman who runs a channel called "Auntie's Advice" and she makes hilarious live stream reviews of 90 Day Fiance. If a link is allowed, please let me know and I'll paste if you guys are interested in it.

    Opinions:

Nicole & Azan: Just, no. Used to think Azan had the stereotypical "green card" motive, until this season began. Nicole = extremely immature, can be abusive, and wasn't smart for bringing her little girl out of the country, considering she knew how much her and this man can argue.

Josh & Aika: I think she's using him for citizenship and the American Dream. I generally like her personality, but her POE taping made it obvious, like the car comments, etc. As for Josh,  it was awful of him to propose using a ring from a previous engagement...I would've been just as upset as her. It's not unique or special to THEIR commitment.

Molly & Luis: Don't Get. Me. Started. Guys! Lmfao. Highly against it, only due to how Luis treats Molly's girls. I get more nervous for Kensley considering she's a lot younger than Olivia. Olivia can escape for college; Kensley is technically trapped with this man if the marriage is acted on. Molly? I think she's making a grave mistake. Her laugh completely annoys me. I apologize. :'D

Elizabeth & Andrei: Everyone says he's abusive. I'm not sure if I fully agree yet. Controlling to a degree? Yes, indeed. They honestly bore me.

Annie & David: Lots to say here. Will try keeping it short! Basically, a lot of people feel Annie is just using David to get to America. Honestly, I genuinely believe she loves/cares for David. David's behavior in the latest episode was childish and way too far. I can understand why Annie hates David's drinking so much. I hope David gets thrown out until he chooses to face himself. Hopefully, he'll do something good for her. If not, he should be paying for her flight home.

Evelyn & David: Only thought right now is....what do you all think of Evelyn's singing? xD I can't decide.

    Hey guys,

just venting a bit really and wanted to share with people who understand. My fiancé had been here in England with me for 2 weeks and today I took him to the airport and said goodbye. It’s so hard, so unbelievably hard to say goodbye. You’d think we’d all be used to it by now but god it never gets any easier.

We filed for our K1 in September so we’re still waiting, hoping for news in feb/March. This was his first trip to England, I’ve been out to the US a a few times to be with him. Now we wait for news in the new year and hope that the next time we are together is for good, no more goodbyes.

like I said, just venting to people who get it xxx
