Weird topic, but i see the point.
Yeah it must have some influence on the relationship, but not the long wait or immigration process itself. The distance is the issue imo.
we've been together for over 4 years now, never doubted or second guessed myself or her in the whole relationship. The immigration process is just a process that we have to go through in order to move on with our lives together. I didn't take it as a challenge. It was more like "meh another 5-12 months. We did 3 years before that, not even worried, why to worry and question everything now?".
I don't take it differently, from when we weren't even close to moving. All was good, and still is. Just another anniversary to celebrate once we get past it. It's all in your head, attitude and general view of the situation. If you make it out as a bad experience, nothing will help, and everything will seem failing. Like people say "only the happy are lucky".
Obviously, it's stressful and makes you anxious. Deal with it, more ####### is coming your way in life. If every time, something fails or it gets tough, do You drop doing it? Of course no. Beautiful things take time to bloom. Make the best out of it.

Many of the things you have  mentioned are not new.

USCIS has always had a backlog. Look how long it took for our initial petitions to be approved. In my case, my I-130 took 5.5 months. Almost all of that time it was sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to get to it. It doesn't take 5.5 months to work one I-130. The wait is longer now because the backlog is constantly growing. As the population grows, there are more petitions for family members and employees, etc. Nothing new there.

Yes, citizenship is being removed from people who committed fraud or misrepresentation to get citizenship, a visa or green card. That has always been the policy. Nothing new there.

Green card holders and other non-citizens have always been deported after serving prison time for crimes. Nothing new there. Minor crimes? What's a minor crime? I've yet to hear of someone being deported for shoplifting a loaf of bread or running a red light but if you have found evidence of such cases, please share.

Legal green card card holders have nothing to fear, in my opinion, if they live a law-abiding life. Nothing has changed there. We have been granted a privilege to be able to live here. I moved here to be with my husband. There's no way I would do anything to jeopardize that and lose this great privilege. But I'm not the kind of person to commit crimes (however minor) or lie to immigration officials anyway. So, I'm not worried.

Yeah I don't know about statistics but there have been a good number of posts where people complain about the long separation times and other difficulties. Look, if you can't handle that, don't be in a serious committed relationship with a foreigner. And if you're someone who "didn't realize" how tough the process would be BEFORE you started it, then I cannot type out what I think of you because I would get banned from this site.

If we can survice a 6 year visa process, then any real relationship can
and if the wait caused a divorce,  the marriage was domed anyway
there will be bigger stressers to come after getting together in the US

In my opinion those marriages that broke up “due” to the immigration process wouldn’t have lasted anyway. If you can’t get through this how can you get life’s up and downs?

i think going through this actually makes the relationship stronger!

Yes I do agree, it’s very very stressful emotionally and mentally on a “”not so good days! “” I believe that if the marriage continues to remain loyal ,, keep trust and husband and wife keep  each other’  strong ,, if you’re separated by distance ,, sing to each other,, play your fav song and listen together!! I didn’t know much about the process , but I’m committed and people need to realize : REAL LOVE TAKES STRUGGLE & tears sometimes!! Faith and trust speaks volumes! If you treasure your loved one , stand by them ,, until the end!! Yes it’s tremendously hard day by day! Grow together , listen, live, love 💕 and learn!

The main reason for posting this question was merely curiosity. Many things factor into relationships not making it. And it isn't a matter of not loving each other either. The stresses of this process, regardless of knowing what you sign up for in the beginning, can become more than one or both ever expected. Yes, you should know what you signed up for when you start this whole relationship, marriage, immigration process. And majority do, and believe they can make it through these stresses....but no one knows the extent until you go through it.

This was not a post in relation to my own marriage or our own stresses with this wait to be together.  It was just as I said, merely curiosity.....thank you everyone for their opinions.

Did you read what I wrote?  Can you understand the difference between being nice and being professional/respectful?  Those are completely different things.

Again, they do NOT need to be "Mr. Nice Guy".  I was and am agreeing with you on that point.

However, they 100% absolutely without a doubt need to be professional and respectful.  That is a requirement of their job.  I can guarantee you that ridiculing or offensively laughing at potential immigrants is against State Department rules.  It doesn't matter how many people have experienced that situation, it still shouldn't be happening.

The only thing you can do right now is to wait, don’t worry it will come out as long as you don’t have problems with your documents. The reason for the delay sometimes they do background check.
    😊 stay positive and pray.

Queeniam1963 reacted to Ebunoluwa in Case Approved, yet stuck in AP for 9 months?
It should be a simple process to review the missing document that you send and not take 9 months I agree.
I wonder if the document review was completed and somehow they needed to do a security / background check
which would explain the long time.
I would email the embassy with a very specific question : Is my case at an outside agency or in internal checks ?
Security checks or document review ? You must be specific and let them know that the blanket paste and copy
job is not helpful. Have a senator do the specific inquiry. Not just : Are we out of AP or when will we AP be completed.
Try that if you haven't already. Writ of mandamus can backfire with a denial, I would not risk it.
Visiting the embassy yourself is also an option.

Some of us have got visas and others are still waiting.. I'm waiting since 1 year after my interview. My passport is in embassy. Dont worry. Stay patient and all we can do is keep praying and hoping for the best

Just to answer my own question:
I'm almost certain (99% sure) that asking a question to the embassy and getting a response changes that update date...
Three weeks and no change, but I ask for an update each week, and each time they respond my status update date changes...
Wish I could just go and hibernate for a while until this process is done.

Yes the immigrants did help build the USA and has added a lot of wealth to this country I do agree and now its becoming hard for immigrant families like my husband was attacked in Morocco and hit in the head now everyday im worried....i wish that this process was more in depth knowing  the good people from the bad people because we here on VJ that have good intentions are being suffered the consequences of actions of bad people...but I pray that all will be well soon because a child with special needs has to have both parents because my son is Autistic and as a single mother at that time before I married it was hard and you can't trust everybody to take care of your child that has special needs while you work.

I spoke to someone from DHS this morning. He is a member of my mosque's extended community. He had my fiancee's case info and had already looked into it at the request of our Imam by the time we spoke. He was optimistic and is going to inquire his counterparts at the State Department and Consulate Services for answers. He did reiterate what we've all heard as well before that if they deny the visa, it is typically right away. So that is somewhat good news. But essentially he said everything looked good, my background looked good, my fiancee's did as well. Even noting that during the interview in Casablanca that the notes said she was "pleasant and nice".

Then eventually the case just froze where it was after background check was finished. No red flags. No issues. No further processing. No missing paperwork. No unanswered questions. Nothing. Just sitting and open for months and months with no additional processing. It is, figuratively, sitting on a desk waiting for a stamp as everything has been completed.

And yes, I did explain that there were many people in the same situation. He noted because things will take time, it will be 2-3 weeks before he'll get back to me with update. If he is able to help, I will ask him if he is able to help others in this administrative processing blackhole...

Also, he did make a comment about Congressmen as well. He implied they have little impact in the situation and can only ask for status and possibly help if a visa is denied. It doesn't hurt to have Congressmen inquire, but at the same time it has little impact other than a little note to the case that someone from congress asked about it. Which is a bunch of BS if you ask me that the officials I elected to represent me can't help when I need them to....

Yes, they emailed the questionnaire a few days after my husband's interview.  In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with reminding them as they have so many cases and it could be possible they may have forgotten about some cases and put them aside.  I have a relative who retired from the US embassy in Islamabad many years back and he tells me that when he worked at the embassy the consular would put folders of peoples cases aside and would look at them after a long while for no apparent reason (this is what I've heard from a relatives personal experience).  Hopefully, we can change the trend and more people in this forum receive visas in the upcoming months.

Here is an update for our case:

My husband started a new job in Dubai in July, just last month. We were going to ask for his interview at UAE embassy, but he said yesterday he wants to go back to the Islamabad embassy for his interview. Sounds crazy to me, BUT when I started thinking about it, it makes some sense. He speaks the language, knows the procedure there. EVEN though, I'm sure he has a target on his back because we filed a formal complaint against them after his horrible interview. From what I understand, you can take a lawyer and your spouse into this embassy, while you can't do either in Abu Dhabi. He feels more comfortable with urdu speakers. From what I understand, Abu Dhabi is no piece of cake for an interview either. All of his lawyers in Pakistan advise him to have his interview there. Especially since we may have to rebutt and appeal again.

I am filing our second Cr-1 this week. I will keep you posted. We are at the point now, at our ages, that we have accepted that we may be a long-distance marriage forever. BUT we sure as heck aren't giving up. If they don't approve us this time, we will rebutt and appeal this time. We didn't appeal the last one because it would just add another year or more to our case.

I urge anyone who has had a terrible experience in Islamabad to file a complaint. Nothing will get done unless enough people stand up for what is right. In my school, we teach kids to stand up to bullies. How can we expect that if we are too afraid to do the same? Don't be a bystander....
