No one is disputing that you can petition your brother.

The point you’re missing is that he will have to wait for a visa to be available, as that category is numerically limited, and the current wait time is up to 20 years, and even longer for some countries.

No difference.  From an immigration perspective, parents are considered immediate relatives, siblings (half or full) are family preference (note, I understand that you think of your half-brother as an immediate relative, but US immigration does not).  In your case filing the I130 for your parents (IR5 visa) will follow one timeline (approximately 1-2 years) and your half-brother (F4 visa) will follow a completely separate timeline (15+ years depending on the country).  There is no numerical limitation on visas for immediate relatives, but there are for family preference so they take longer due to a huge backlog of petitions.  I included the link for the visa bulletin so you can see the amount of time it takes for an F4 visa.  As others have stated, you can file the I130's for all your relatives, and your parents will get their visa's first, then when they come to the US and become LPRs, they can also file their own I130 for your half-brother under the F2A or F2B category depending on his age when the I130 they file is approved.  Another idea is to file for one of your parents, and then they come and file the I130's for their spouse and their child.

    Good Luck!

You will have to read aloud a sentence. Then you will be verbally given a sentence and told to write it out.

The vocabulary of English for these two tests is limited.

    The writing vocabulary is https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/guides/writing_vocab.pdf

I saw a case posted this year where the applicant passed the civics and english test, then was told to wait while the ISO left the room.

Instead the applicant got up to follow the ISO. Enraged, the ISO failed the applicant on the grounds the applicant did not understand English.

Not as long as some have had, but Yesterday the 6th of April My wife took her Oath here in Las Vegas,NV, and marked the end of dealing with USCIS forever. Seeing the Naturalization Certificate was the most beautiful thing. Everyone here from the beginning November 2017 when I filed the K1, until now I would like to send out a thanks to those that have provided great advice, and allowed me to help others. A couple I married from VJ that also did a K1 just had their Citizenship test, and passed also. Their oath is the 11th of May. Knowing I was part of their journey from Marriage to Naturalization was rewarding also. I hope all the others I have married here from VJ also get to this point. It is so satisfying knowing you made it thru the war, won all the battles, and came out victorious. For anyone else out there, keep fighting, and don't give up. It is possible to make it out... a little rough for wear definitely, and probably with some lifelong scars and things that will haunt you forever, but knowing you came out on top is worth it.

    Hello!

Yesterday, April 5th, I went to my N400 interview, passed, and took the oath at the same day. It was worth the 3 hour drive from Pensacola to Montgomery. We were up early for my 8 AM appointment, slept in the parking space to wait for the oath ceremony at 11:30 AM and was home by 4 PM. We celebrated by taking home some Popeye's chicken! 😊

Last night, I finished the petition for my mom online. And today, I applied for my U.S. passport.

Thank you for all the help and support from this community!

Thanks.  Yes, unless you are traveling within a couple weeks, a passport appointment might be difficult to get.  All the acceptance agencies and Post Offices around Dallas are booked 4 weeks out. I assume the demand is high elsewhere, too.  In addition, passport processing times are increasing, too.  I suggest paying for expedite service and one-day shipping.  Took 6 weeks from submission of application to shipping.

Mrs. DPK reacted to Marieke H in What happens to my assets if I divorce my foreign spouse with a temporary green card?
The 2 year conditional green card is not a trial period for you to decide if you want to keep your immigrant spouse. You have no control over her immigration status, and you don't get to send her back now that things didn't work out. The best thing that you can do is to encourage and support her to naturalize, so at least you won't be on the hook for the affidavit of support anymore. Other than that, divorce proceedings and outcomes will be similar to what they would be if you had married a US citizen.

So why would immigration have the condition temporary GC the first 2 years then?  If couple divorce but spouse able to stay and claim the alimony? I see a lot people on here with spouse so afraid to be deport because they are on the temporary GC and the husband wants divorce.  I read on here people saying I can call USCIS to cancel the pending status? I'm so confused and this is a big headache.  I don't want to do split 50/50

According to the 2022 annual report of the Social Security Board of Trustees, the surplus in the trust funds that disburse retirement, disability and other Social Security benefits will be depleted by 2035. That's one year later than the trustees projected in their 2021 report.

    Hi all,

I finally had the I-751 and I-400 combo interview.
Questions were the usual, and my husband was with me for both parts Removal of Conditions and Civics questions. Examples were:
To my husband: Where was she born? How did you meet? To me: What's his DoB? How did you meet? How did he propose? Two things that stood out for me were:
We were asked to show recent pictures from our phones, on the spot. We were asked if we had any children, and when we replied we didn't they followed up with: And why not?
I suppose if you're in your 20s and have been married 5+ it's sus (?) It took me a few secs to react to answer to that one question, but anyway be prepared for something like that.

    Cheers!

I can testify that Removal of Conditions is a real pain in the neck.  However, the new 48 month extension letters will help.  Personally, I would try to enter the US after 2 years of marriage.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had my N400 interview on Jan 30,2023 at Federal Plaza. I definitely over prepared. My application was submitted in Jan 2021 and I didn't get an interview notice until exactly 2 years after the initial submission (and after contacting the USCIS ombudsman's office for help moving my case along). The agent was pleasant and quick. Questions on the civics portion included: name of the current president, ocean on the east coast, role of the judicial branch, how many justices are on the Supreme Court,) reading/ writing portion was about how many senators we have / we have 100 (one hundred) senators. I was informed my application had been approved on the spot and a notice of oath would be mailed. my status changed twice today (from interview was scheduled to recommendation of approval to oath will be scheduled). I am near graduation. I don't post here much, but have used this forum in moments of anxiety and frustration. I thought it'd be fair to make a small contribution by sharing my experience as I know these stories help comfort and remind us that one day, eventually, our time comes - even if it takes a while.
Today, Jan 31, my case updated to notice mailed. March 6, 2023 is my oath ceremony. I was probably the last filer from Jan 21 to be approved 😂
it’s all good. Good luck to all.

I posted this in the January 2023 filer thread but for anyone that isn't following that specific month thread they wouldn't see this.

We just got our extension letters today.  Instead of extending the expiration 24 months our letters are good for 36 months.  Doesn't look like they anticipate anything getting better any time soon.  At least it will avoid some of the problems people are running into with 24 month letters and still not being done and needing to make an appointment for an ADIT stamp.

Mrs. DPK reacted to Crazy Cat in N400 based on three years- looking for feedback!
In case you're interested, here is a transcript of our I-751/N-400 interviews:

We received an email a few days prior notifying me to be there for the combo interview. Appointment was at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 14th.  We were called in at 1:30 pm.  Officer said, "You have already submitted a lot of evidence".  The officer asked both of us a few questions for the I-751 interview.  "How did you meet"   How many children?  When were you married? Did you pay anyone to fill in the I-751? He wanted to see evidence of marriage dated from I-751 filing date (March 2019) to present.  I gave him bank accounts, credit card accounts, apartment leases, driver's licenses, Car insurance card. He did NOT ask for tax transcripts (I had already uploaded them) or original documents.  He said "You satisfy the I-751 requirements".  He then gave me the option of remaining in the room for the N-400 portion, but wife was comfortable alone.  He escorted me back to the waiting room.  Wife says he asked her a few questions we had answered in the I-751 interview portion, then asked her the 6 easiest questions in the 100 question list.

    Who is President?
    What did MLK do?
Why did colonists come to America?
    Name one branch of Government?
    Name 2 cabinet positions?
    Who makes laws?
About 30 minutes later, he escorted her out to meet me.  She had the form which says "You passed the English and Civics test".
An hour later, her N-400 status had changed to "Oath will be scheduled".  The next day (I think), her I-751 status changed to "Case was approved".
What amazed me was the rate the officers were calling interviewees in that afternoon.  They had 10 or 12 officers continually calling people out of the waiting room.  We were called 30 minutes after our appointment time.

The officer told us "We are here to help her become a citizen.  We are not trying to fail her.    Officer said 2 to 6 weeks for the oath.
When we got home from interview, the N-400 status had changed to "Oath will be scheduled".  Next day, the I-751 status changed to "Case was approved".  On Jan 9, 2023, we received the oath ceremony date.
