pardiiix reacted to justhelping in Complete list of AOS interview questions
I adjusted from J-1. It was so long ago they never asked my about my visa on the interview anyway.
What I am strongly reluctant to is the unnecessary attitude resulted from desire to get information totally unrelated to the thread topic. Unless you didn't bother to read it, you would know I mention on numerous occasions that this thread is about list that is related to ALL Family Based AOS interviews regardless of the visa you are adjusting from.
To everyone else:
Your interviewer simply assumes that you should know the answers right away to all of these related questions since you are one family unit. It is not uncommon for a beneficiary as well as petitioner to be nervous during the interview for various reasons, and it is much harder to recall the information you've rarely discussed with your spouse under such conditions and simply doesnt make any sense.
We are memorising every little thing when we are getting prepared for any useless exam or test, but when you go to the immigration EXAMINER, to the one of the MOST important interviews in your life - thats when you choose to proudly ignore all the prepping since "we have a real marriage anyway"? This kind of approach many times resulted in second stokes interview.
Please, use this list for your reference, as a checklist for preparations for interview, or just look through it out of curiosity - don't be intimidated, these are all easy questions.
Hope it will help you feel more confident on your interviews and to get your residentship in no time at all
Good luck

I saw a K-1 AOSer get a Stokes interview. It can happen.

I think its better to get scared now and get over that fear, than to get "surprised" and scared by one of those unexpected questions during the interview.
Interview requires you to answer interviewer's questions right away, you will bring unnecessary suspicions on yourself when you start to scramble for answers, or get caught by surprise by a series of repetitive questions. It doesn't make any sense to don't get prepared by going through all possible questions and scenarios - after all it's your future and wellbeing in this country is at stakes. Also, when you pay top dollar for a good lawyer, he will go through all of these questions with you before interview anyway to make sure you are ready.
Also, without preparation you can easily get answers with your spouse wrong on some of the most basic questions, just go through this list to see for yourself.

pardiiix reacted to Jun2580 in AOS Interview Questions! (Marriage Based)
Just wanted to keep you all updated on what happened to my case!
Today, my USCIS case status changed from Interview scheduled to Case was approved. we approved your Form I-485!
Does this mean my GC will be getting issued soon? I have seen posts where people said their status was "GC is getting issued" or something. But mine is different from that.
Is there any difference between these two statuses?

I'm not KDC, but the US Citizen petitioner/sponsor needs to file a Form I-865, Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address, while s/he has any outstanding active I-864.

pardiiix reacted to Russ&Caro in GREEN CARD HOLDER BUT OUTSIDE THE US FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR
The people who are responding have been on this board for a long time. We've seen many similar situations. Some 6 months, some just less than a year, some more than a year. Invariably people report back that they're questioned at length at POE. Some get turned around, some get let through. What everyone is telling you is that it's a gamble. If you like to gamble, then you're probably fine. Get turned around just go back to your home in Italy and define the next steps, like filing a new CR1. Your fate is entirely in the hands of an IO who can let you through, or not.
Again, if you're looking for someone who got through after 364 days, I can assure you that more than one person on this board have been allowed back into the country in that situation.

I wrote to my congressman again. I doubt it will help any, but I tried...
Thank you, Yovanna.
My case was approved on June 7th, 2017. I am still however concerned for the people who are walking down this same path behind me. If I go to the USCIS website: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do And type in my case: XXXXXXXXXXXXX I get the message that my case is received. My case is approved, not received The citizens of this country deserve to have a case tracking system that works. If it doesn't work, at the very least we deserve and honest answer that it doesn't and an ETR of when it will be fixed. The case tracker has been broken since May 2nd, 2017 and countless people have reported it broken and the USCIS phone support refuses to acknowledge it or fix it. I am a member of an online immigration forum and this sort of thing, along with many other USCIS related issues are giving the United States a bad image for the people who are immigration here. I have seen countless immigrants talking about how disorganized and broken USCIS is, and rightly so seeing how USCIS has handled our cases. Would it be possible to please submit a new inquiry about the case tracker being broken? Best Regards -

you should start preparing your packet 3... go to your consulate portal and see what you require, it differs for different countries.
also you can begin your ds-160 ...DO NOT SUBMIT just save, this takes about 75 minutes so ensure u start when free-----will not recommend skipping questions so have all your paperwork with you since the review is a pain so try to do it thoroughly on the first time. -you submit the ds160 when your consulate receives your case and its in READY STATUS.
https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/Default.aspx <<<< complete ds 160 here and save until time to be submitted. (write your application number in a safe place)
https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=WwjqOlbeRYzCYubaSQI+RA== <<< track status here once case leaves the nvc

Have you received your noa2?
if so then you should start to look at this https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-IV.pdf this link is packet 3. You will receive this from the embassy in the mail once the nvc sends the approved petition to them. This link and intructions are specifically for Montreal. Even though the beneficary will get this by mail you can print this off and start gathering all the documents listed and fill out the ds-160 online. Once you've gathered everything on the list follow the instructions to email them the completed checklist, confirmation of completed ds-160 and the scanned coloured copy of your passport bio page (the page with your info and picture) to the specified email address they've provided. Once that is complete you wait approx 7 business days and they should email you back with packet 4 instructing you how to pay the fee schedule your medical exam and schedule your interview. You must schedule your interview before your medical. The website they give you to schedule your appointment will also have the options to pay the $265 USD online. Make sure to print off the receipt. Then you pick from the dates and times they have available I hope this helps!! Let me know if you have more questions!

We just called NVC exactly 2 weeks after receiving NOA2 +1 603-334-0888, and they hadn't sent the packages to our consulate. So we asked if we could switch consulates, and they said we could. We have to send an email asking for it to be changed, along with the consulates country's visa and other info. They said if we act quickly, it wouldn't even add delay.
We did NOT fix a consulate on the form at the beginning. We just left it blank. They picked Ankara, Turkey, and we're switching to Montreal, Canada.

We received our NOA2 by mail today 💃. I cannot be any more happier. I woke up by the call of my fiancé at 5 am 😍. I hope everyone who's stuck get out soon.
The fact is it had been approved on May 30th, but we obly found out by post! The website still doesn't work and we called USCIS (after the approval), they claimed that they're still working on our case and the timeline is correct. Ugh! Why do they do this to us?!
We spoke to tier 1, we asked to speak to tier 2, he didn't permit it and said tier 2 would say the same thing 🙄. If the same thing happens to you, insist on speaking to tier 2.
We didn't set a consulate, where can we find out which embassy to go?
Oh, and what's the next step?🙈 So sorry for asking. Should I do anything while waiting for the NVC number?

Whoa, people. Relax a little. You just finished the most frustrating part of the whole process. Now things begin to move much faster. Unless your fiance(ee) comes from a country that has a high rate of fraud or other types of crimes the process through the NVC will be very quick. The new case number is assigned based upon the embassy controlling the interview. You can visit the U.S. embassy web site for your particular situation and find out a lot of information about the remaining process. You will need to be sure that any remaining documents are sent to your fiance(ee) in preparation for the interview. In most cases, the packets 3 & 4 can be downloaded from their web site.
VJ has some pretty good information on each embassy and the average time it takes to process through to the visa. Take your time, review the information and plan accordingly. For most of you passing the NOA2, the rest of the trip will go relatively fast. Make a list of all that you need to do and check off each step. There are things for your significant other to do, like arrange for a police report, plan for the medical exam and trip to city of the embassy, etc.

You do not book your interview through DOS. You book your interview through the CSC website here: http://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/ss_country_welcome
Also, since DOS confirmed that you have been sent Packet 3, you can go ahead and get your paperwork to Montreal instead of waiting for the physical copy of Packet 3. Here is what you will need to send Montreal:
DS-156 – 2 copies https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp
DS-156K – 1 copy http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/82063.pdf
Form DS-160 – one copy, available online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
Confirmation receipt regarding Form DS-160 – one copy, available online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
DS-230 part I and part II – one copy per each applicant, including children
Checklist of documents to gather for the interview – one copy per family is sufficient.

After your petition is approved (NOA2), USCIS forwards your petition to NVC, it ALWAYS goes thru NVC but it usually stays there for a few days and then it goes to ur local embassy. If ur petition has been approved, u can call NVC to get ur case number. Note that it usually takes around 2 weeks (from NOA2) for NVC to be able to give u your case #.
you guys should check your Embassy Info, I can't tell u how it works after NVC since its different for every country.
