Honestly, you were way out of status and I think this approvals are useless.
Let's wait and see if knowledgeable people on this specific matter will come and chime in.
I am not well versed with extensions. But whatever I told you was from reading prior experiences posted by others who did the same thing as you, only to realize those extensions came way too late, hence useless though approved.

I want to start my own food business and it's a tricky one to be left alone at the early stage. I want to stay here and start it up, get it going for a few years before pass it on someone who can manage it for me.

My husband keeps showing me these YT videos from the US and sing the national anthem to me and then scream I LOVE AMERICA. I am now triggered by the phrase MOVING TO AMERICA because it has become almost a nightmare to me. That's how he's been pressuring me.

It is about technicality since I already said “I know” but here you are pushing for your “I know more than you do “ attitude. If you looked at my reply I also added “at least for employment.”   I was talking about how it is invalid for work purposes since her authorization has expired.

Do note that your original document (US Passport ) is not sent to India. You should get it back in a week or so after you send in your OCI application.  I initiated my OCI in July and got the OCI within 4 weeks.

This is a guide on surrendering your Indian Passport after becoming naturalized US Citizen.

Step 1: Visit this Link and fill in the form. The filled form should look something like this Sample. Pay close attention to the date formats as it varies throughout the application. After submitting the form you will be given a CKGS temporary ID. Make sure to save that in case you close the application before finishing it or get disconnected. It will be emailed to you as well. Remember your required documents/checklist will be based on the answers on this page. Your date of naturalization should be the same as listed on the naturalization certificate & not your US Passport.
Step 2: Click the box for Terms & Conditions then click proceed. You will be shown payment summary on the right. Just ignore at this time & proceed with the application. Sample
Step 3: Fill the Renunciation Form. Make sure to enter same details as your Indian Passport. When you are done, just click submit and review for corrections. Check the box  under declaration then click proceed.
Step 4: Fill the Additional Particulars Form for Renunciation. Then click submit and review for corrections. Check the box and type in the place & click proceed.
Step 5: This is where you will choose the shipping options. I recommend you choose FedEx Overnight for Shipping to & From CKGS. This way you don't have to worry about their shipping instructions as they are vague and hard to understand. You do end up paying little extra($30) if you choose CKGS shipping. This is where you need to take a note of the payment summary. Your Money Order should reflect the amount shown on this screen. Once you are done click proceed.
Step 6: On this screen you will need to enter the Money Order/Cashier's Check details. Once you are done click the box for Terms & Conditions & click Submit. Then  you will be given a order form. & Shipping Label Print/Download for future reference. At this time online payment option is not available & In-Person services are suspended due to Corona.
Step 7: Go back to my My Account. Here you will be shown all the forms/checklist that you can print. It will look some like This.
Step 8: Print all the required forms/copies & mail it. I've attached a basic checklist. Don't forget to sign and attach the downloaded barcode on the envelope before mailing.

Note: If you do not have your Indian Passport, a police report is required in addition to affidavit of loss. I recently did mine and my local PD has a online reporting system. I received my report under 2 hours.

I hope I cleared all the confusions. If there is anything else that someone would like to add please post below. I've attached sample forms as well.

IowacityGuy reacted to lesleypowers in N-400 approved, but a TERRIBLE experience. Should I complain?
    Hi all,

Had my N-400 interview today and was recommended for approval, although I couldn't do a same day naturalization because "their computer system was down". I am not an overly emotional person and have only had positive experiences with staff and officers at this same field office before, but my officer today was so nasty she actually reduced me to tears. I have relayed it to a few friends who are not involved in the immigration system and they are all pushing me to complain, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not really. Just wanted to relay it here to see if any of you lot find this to be unusual.

I like to think I am a polite and friendly person, and communication has never been a concern during my immigration process as English is my first language. However this officer had it in for me from the get go. If for whatever reason she couldn't understand me she would repeatedly SHOUT at me and had a very aggressive manner. On the two occasions I asked if she could clarify something for me, her eyes practically rolled back in her head with disdain. Unpleasant, but not grounds for complaint. However, once I had passed the exam and gone through the yes/no questions, she began requesting all manner of documentation that was not required on the invitation. She scanned the letter and said "well I don't issue these. I can see they didn't ask for it, but I don't care." I am a woman married to another woman so I couldn't say if that had anything to do with it, but she began requesting all manner of proof of our relationship which I had already provided when I submitted my N-400 application. Again she agreed with me that nowhere in my paperwork did it state I should bring these things along. There was no reason for her to believe our marriage isn't legitimate. I had to practically beg to turn my phone on in order to show her the documentation as a pdf. When I found documents she would repeatedly tell me they weren't what she was looking for despite clear evidence to the contrary, and then request another document. When I showed her them on the screen she would put me through a strange rigmarole of zooming in and out repeatedly despite all the pertinent information being clear on the screen. She told me I would not be approved if I could not provide sufficient evidence for her. Just to reiterate, I already provided all of this information when I submitted the initial N-400 app. Also there was very little signal in the building and she was getting very clearly frustrated and impatient as I worked as quickly as I could to pull up the information she requested. If I had been unable to get my phone working I would have been denied.  Ultimately I was approved which was great, but she again got angry with me as she requested that I surrender all the government identification I had ever been given (old employment card etc)- I said I hadn't brought it as it wasn't listed on the letter, and she said "DID YOU LEAVE IT AT HOOOOOME" in a childlike mocking of my accent. On the way out she was very rude to me and at one point laughed in my face as I got a little disoriented looking for the exit.

All in all it was an extremely hostile experience. Perhaps I sound paranoid but this woman really was just incredibly cruel and unpleasant to me. I was really excited for this experience and left feeling drained and panicked. Just wanted to share and see if this is a typical experience or not, as it was very different from my adjustment of status interview.

I actually need my certificate more than my passport. They wont let me register for vote without my proof of citizenship. i tried doing it online and it say i am not eligible. so i had to reach out to my congressman for other options to register to vote. They suggested they can help with the passport. I had no idea that s even possible. No body is abusing any system. i have been through so many process compared to them this is nothing.
