I'll be applying N-400 for 3 years of marriage in 2 weeks ( got I751 approval last week). I need to know after submitting e application for  n400 how soon do we get our biometrics ?

File online and you will get your bio anywhere between 15-20 days.  I applied 25th Nov, 2018, go Bio Dec  14, 2018

    • If accepted, the applicant may submit a future application and the withdrawal will not give negative implications to the later application.  Withdrawal will not have negative implication- only you will loose your filing fees and time to apply for withdrawal and decision by USCIS.
    • If the withdrawal is not accepted, the immigration officer will decide the application based on its merits (the information provided in the application).- since your reason for withdrawal is due to filing after mid-night your time zone, but USCIS computer is set on Alaska time zone, you are not in fault and if you put all those facts in your withdrawal application ( I am not suggesting to withdrawal, it is your decision and how much risk you would like to take ), they might not accept the withdrawal and allow your application to process.

    Hi all,

I became eligible for naturalization on 08/20/2019. I decided to apply online and started my application online a few days before then.  On the late night of 08/19/2019 the system showed that I am eligible to apply, so I went ahead paid the fee and applied.  I figured the system would let me apply since it was already 08/20/2019 in east coast and central time, so I did not see a problem.  However, when I received my I-797C, I realized that both "receive date" and "priority date" are listed as 08/19/2019 and notice date is listed as 08/20/2019. So based on these dates I have applied one day early, even though the system allowed me to submit the application.  I also got a notification that biometrics letter is on my way.

What Should I do? Should I withdraw my application and reapply?  Should I let the process go through and hope it goes smoothly?  Interview appointments can take 8 to 10 months to get, so not sure I'm better off reapplying... Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

Check your credit card payment receive time email from USCIS.  It might be 8/19, if it is 8/20, you have better chance. I was also excited like you, but instead of mid night ( was originally planned), I did ET 8 am and I was fine.  You will get a call for interview and depends on the IO , you might be approved or it can be denied.

    Location nyc

naturalization interview scheduled for oct,  i751 have been in NBC for two months, it’s definitely gonna be a combo interview right? My wife is pregnant, if it’s gonna be a combo interview I’m gonna bring her,  she’s not that mobile, and all the wait in the office is not good for her mood, so if it’s not a combo interview, I’m not going to ask her to go

I-751 in NBC means, it will go to local office with N-400, take your wife with you even it is not convenient .  Usually N-400 interview is quick, 30 to 45 mins

Would an extra marital affair that didn't lead to the end of a marriage (the  spouse is aware of the affair)  be a deterrent for the approval of the citizenship application?

The application (not marriage based)  would be over 5 years since removal of the conditional green card.

    thank you

No , there is not palace on N-400 you have to disclose it . As long as your are faithful now, and hope in the future too,  you will be fine.

Question for those who did the interview, do we have to memorize the dates ?

In the n400 questions like the date (day-month-year) of like where we lived, dates of moving jobs, what date to what date the prior marriage of a spouse .. etc  , or the officer will mention the dates and we have to confirm it ?

You need to remember the date of marriage, if divorce, need to remember it, birthday of spouse , name of spouse's previous spouse name, if applicable.  All these are discussed during between husband and wife time to time during marriage and they try to figure out from all those questions about genuine and normal  marriage, since you are applying based on 3 year marriage.   So dates related to marriage are expected to be memorized.

If you have 400 pending at the same time, they most likely won't bother sending you the 10 year green card. It makes sense if they are adjudicating your 400, what do you need the green card for if your 400 will be approved soon? Don't worry about the 10 year green card if you have 400 pending, they approved my 751 but never sent me the 10 year card as my 400 was also being adjudicated. I was naturalized last May. Good luck.

In my case, when I got my I-551 stamp in Philadelphia, they took my GC and during N-400 interview and I-751 ( pending), I mentioned to IO officer that  I have no green card, so my interview was June 28, 2019.  Both approved July 3,.  Got 10 year GC on 12th and Oath on 15th July. You need to submit GC at oath or may be some kind of letter if you have no GC.  I was lucky that I have GC to submit.

    Hi everyone!

The great news is that I'm becoming an American in less than a month. The not-so-great news is that 3 days after that I'm flying abroad on a work trip. What should I do coming back? Take my certificate of naturalization with me? Is there a way for me to get a passport in that little time?

    Thank you!

You can get passport in one day.  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/hurry.html

    Hello

I took oath ceremony. I applied online, so I could see any changes online like interview scheduled. After having oath ceremony I see in my online account: oath ceremony schedules. There is no updates that I received naturalization certificate or case is closed.

Question: Do I have to see updated information in my online account after "Oath ceremony scheduled"? Does it have to said case is closed and I received naturalization certificate? Somebody who just recently become a citizens can you check your online accounts what is written on yours?

    Thanks for your help.

You are US citizen now.  Just un-checked both email and phone number and forget about it.

Hello, my fiance has a young child from his prior marriage in South Africa. His son lives with the mother in South Africa. My fiance would like to apply for US citizenship based on marriage, 3 years after our marriage date.

There is no court order for child support. They have a mutual agreement contract signed by both, stating how much he pays monthly for child support.

His ex-wife is unwilling to provide a notarized letter confirming his child support, as they are not on speaking terms.

What is the best method for sending the child support money to the mother in South Africa during the next three years?  We don't want his citizenship to be denied based on insufficient proof. I've seen people state that bank transfer is not good enough (his current method).

The mail is not reliable in South Africa so I wouldn't send checks or money orders.

Is paypal payment showing monthly transfers good proof for the IO?

Also, does he need to provide 3 or 5 years of evidence, if he is applying based on marriage (3yr rule)?

    Thanks so much!

Make sure to make some court arrangements and proper documentation and also it is a moral ( you may disagree) obligation that the  money he is going to send every month is going to use to take care of his son.  Also some kind of visitation right in the document is good, since it is also fall into the moral obligation.

Most likely there will be a table where you can register to vote and of course the Democratic Party and the Republican Party will have a table as well as your local Senators and Representatives may have their own tables as well trying to woo in the fresh voters. That has been my experiences going to a few of these ceremonies including my own. At my own oath, there was also the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) performing all the singing so if you’re in to a bunch of 80 years old women singing “God love America”, that’ll be something to look forward to.

I personally have not seen a table where you can apply passport there at the ceremony. People usually have to go to the Post Office (requires an appointment) or some other passport application intake places usually in a county government building.

Philadelphia, no passport application at the ceremony, but I took appointment @ 4:30 PM to a close by post office and after finishing oath at 4:00 PM , when directly and applied for passport.  I took one passport photo, filled application form ( online) and photocopy of the diver licence, paid fees using debit card, done.  Got passport in 10 days ( paid  $ 60 more).

    awesome!

I am right now in between jobs. But we both are financially doing well, we inherited some money from his parents ,so we took break from having to work. Although recently i started a website where i do sell my art and i am pursuing that further.

So, what do they ask in the 5 year citizenship interview? any ideas?

i was worried that they want specifics of the job or financial support etc.

Is there any guide about interview process and preparation for 5 year eligibility?

5 years-  Read experience in this board about the interview experience.  You need to learn 100 questions, read and write ( I am sure you okay, since your are in this board) and if your record are clean, no special preparation is needed for N-400 interview.  In my view, it is the easiest process step of immigration journey.   Also apply online

Hello brothers and sisters, i filed my citizenship application based on 5 years rule this year. I went to the interview on 08/06/2019. I passed every texts but the IO did not approve me but rather gave me a form with a check on it that " A Decision Can Not Be Made". Today i received a case updated text saying that A request for additional evidence has been cancelled. Does it mean that i am approved?? Thanks in advance

May be after initial review, IO is happy with documents you submitted and does not need any other documents from you and it is good news, but  like all cases, it will go for a final check before approval, so you need to wait to hear for the final approval news and hopefully, it will be soon.  Hang on, you are almost there.

    hello vjlers,

i live in Georgia but was schedule to have an interview (5yrs rule) for n400 in Birmingham AL on august 20th . interview was great, i was recommended for approval by the IO.

the IO gave me the form with the check mark " congratulations bla bla bla...you have been recommended for approval".  he said i should come back in a months time for

the oath ceremony. that i should wait for the letter in the mail. to my greatest dismay, i checked my updated status and it reads  "Case transferred to another field office for review".

i dont know whats going on. one more thing, i was scheduled for interview without them letting me know that my case has been transferred to Birmingham Al. any help?

Is your local office Birmingham , AL?  If not, may be after interview, your case might be handle by your local office to schedule an oath.  Check the frequency of oath ceremony in your local office.

Hi everyone, my interview is scheduled for november but I'm curious about these things. If anyone can help, i would appreciate.

1 - If i pass the exam and everything goes well during interview, approximately how long it takes for me to take oath and then finally apply for passport?-

It might take few days to 120 days

2 - my I-751 (removing conditions) is still pending. I have no news for it. What should happen next for it?-

You might get joint interview or just N-400 and IO will review your I-751 application and approve it and then N-400

3 - Is it recommended to travel abroad before or after my interview (I have expired green card and ALMOST expiring extension letter)-

You can travel as long as your have expired documents

4 - My spouse doesn't have to show up at interview, correct?-

Spouse must go with N-400 even it is not both I-751 and N-400 interview.  In my case, it was only  N-400 interview, when ask about the status of i-751, IO asked, is your spouse with you. I said, yes, he said he will review my I-751.

5 - What supporting documents should I bring? Is it enough to bring what i submitted with N400 application? or should i bring anything else?-

Most of the cases, bring N-400 submitted original and also latest tax return and a few months of bank statements-  IO might not check those, but better to have.

    Thank you in advance.

    Mark.

    Hello Everyone,

In my oath taking ceremony notice, it says there to bring: "Any other documents USCIS issued to you". What does that exactly mean? Do I have to bring all the notices that USCIS sends me? Thank you!

I just took GC and the filled notice.  No issue.  So , you can bring other documents and put in the car for mental peace, but they are not needed.  They checked everything about you already and printed the NC and they are not going to check anything at oath ceremony.
