Good for you for seeking the help you needed! I've been here 5 years and just now finally decided to go to therapy. I'd been thinking about it for a long time but finally had the courage to do it. The whole process is just so difficult, and although we all knew it would be hard we just didn't know how hard.

Something that helped me was going to grad school. It not only kept me busy but I made really good friends. I live in CA and although I don't live in a small town, everything is so far that it can feel isolating. You said you don't feel motivated, and don't know what to do. When you get a DL, enroll in your local community college. Try out as many different classes as you want. Junior colleges often offer free certificate programs (which is a good way to find a job) or inexpensive degrees (even though you already have one, you could change careers if you wanted). Where you working in Australia? What were you doing? Do you see the possibility of doing that where you are?

It's probably very hard to hear "hang in there, it will get better" when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe just focusing on getting by one day at a time can help. You do have to give it time, unfortunately, but give yourself a chance.

Kept my name. Never had a problem. Saved hundreds $ in document replacement fees and lot of hours.

This is what I can remember
Confirm your address How did you meet? (then asked what website, because we met online) How long did you date? What did you do on your first date? How did you propose marriage? How much is rent? Who pays rent? Who does the shopping? How often? Who does the cooking? How often? Who was the last person to visit your apartment? Who was it? How do you celebrate the holidays? What was the last holiday you celebrated and how? What did you do for your birthday last year? What did you do for your spouse's birthday last year? Do you have any tattoos? How many tattoos? What do you do for fun? What does your spouse do for fun? When was your last vacation? Where do you work? Where does your spouse work? Do you have any pets? What tv shows do you each watch? Questions asked to spouse but not me:
What did you do last weekend? What is the flooring like in the apartment? How many bedrooms are there? What side of the bed do you sleep on?
There may be more, but that's all I can remember right now. Good thing I looked at Stokes interview questions just in case!

I'm really sorry about your situation! As long as you have a pending case with USCIS, you will be fine. You can stay in the US with the receipt notice. I did that with my J-1, sent paperwork early May, and DS-2019 expired in June.

I think the issue here is that you used the wrong address. You used the address for UPS, Fedex, instead of  USCIS P.O. Box 21281 Phoenix, AZ 85036 which is for USPS.

    update:
My wife left Chile with no issues on January 7.  The airline attendant didn't ask to see any papers prior to boarding.
Once she landed in Miami, she had to wait in the customs and immigration line for nearly 2 hours as apparently there were about 4 other flights that landed at the same time.  Since her green card was expired, she couldn't use one of the kiosks so she had to wait to see an actual person.  Once she was seen, she presented her expired green card and letter, and there were no issues.

She now has her 10 year green card!

No movement here either. I saw that some WAC May 2019 filers were starting to get their biometric notices in December so I'm hoping February will be our month.

Sharing my recent experience traveling from Chile to LAX, via Mexico City with Aeromexico (GC + Extension Letter)

Aeromexico check-in in Santiago: I was not able to check in online, so I did it at the airport. I had no issues, they recognized my papers.
US Immigration check at Connecting Flight In Mexico City: the flight was operated by Delta. They called my name on the speaker and asked to check my documents  at the gate. No problems at all.
US Immigration at LAX: Officer asked for passport, green card and letter, took my picture and that's it. No questions asked.

To follow up for others with similar predicaments:

I went to the Mexican Consulate today to apply for a visa (no appointment, ~30 min wait) and was told by the visa officer that as a citizen/passport holder of a country that waves tourist visas for entry to Mexico I would not need to apply for a visa, even under the expired green card / I-797 NoA circumstances.  Obviously I will need to travel with this documentation to regain entry to the US.

Hope this is helpful information for others.

I completely understand and I am very grateful/thankful for it. I am sorry if I came across as being rude.
The system just makes no sense and I know it will never make sense. I am very glad for movement, just wish bio metrics guaranteed a time limit for interview/approval instead of anywhere from 6 months to 16 months.
