Let's not judge others on why they're (we're) stressing. Every person carries their own cross and their own different set of worries, you don't know every situation. I agree with you that you're lucky in that sense, good for you and your wife. I wish I was in your situation where I can just forget this affects my every day.

Also, my worry is compounded by the fact that (and this one is an annoyance I can actually control and ignore) we paid expensive fees. It is really not hard for a company to develop a true "first come first serve" system. I know my company does it when we're having queues to clear in an organized manner. Supply chain processes can be applied to it, this is not rocket science. The scenarios you're describing are no excuse to the way they're doing things. And if they won't process applications in order then don't effing say so in the website. But it all boils down to the simple fact that they won't move a finger to improve this broken system, they don't want to, in fact the very own USCIS director opposes the streamlining of applications because he thinks the current processes are too lenient and easy on legal migration. They just don't give a sh!t, but they do take our money happily.

Folks, think about how huge amounts of paper work is processed in any organization, public or private.
Several hundred I-751 cases are received in Vermont EACH DAY.
These are immediately just stored away.
At some point, a huge stack of files are taken from storage and spread around among several hundred clerks.
In this process the order of the files gets all messed up and files submitted two months later than other files will get put on top of the stack.
Then we have the situation where one worker completes 20 files per day when another worker completes 8 files per day.  They give the fast worker more files, but they are even later filed ones.  So this worker is churning out files that are several months newer than those files being completed by other workers.
Now a cleaning person knocks files off of a desk.  The files are picked. back up in random order with later filed ones going on top of earlier filed ones.
A worker stays out sick for several days or goes on vacation for 2 weeks or so.  As result, the files on his/her desk are automatically several days, weeks or even a month behind others.

So what good does it do here when people are spending inordinate amount of time and having anguish trying to determine why some persons are processed much faster than others???
I count myself as lucky because my wife (she is the one waiting for 10 year green card) doesn’t even ask about what is happening.  She goes on about her daily life without stress.  She knows the card will come at some point and that if she really needs to travel or some such, the stamp in passport will do the trick.

I wasn't sure where to post it where it'd be the most use to people, so I'm putting it here.

We had a very stressful situation for my husband's oath ceremony. His oath was at the end of August. That week, his mother fell gravely ill and it was necessary for us to book a flight to the UK as soon as we could, which was basically immediately after his oath. We may hold the record for quickest departure from the US after an oath ceremony. Anyway, I knew you aren't meant to travel outside the US without a US passport, but we were left with little choice. There wasn't even time to get an emergency one at a passport center before we left, which I've heard can be processed anywhere from 12 hours to 2-3 days at best. We flew 2 hours after his oath. Anyway, all was fine leaving the country and then we made an appointment with the local US consulate when we got there. We went in and told them about our emergency, brought the death certificate although that was not required, and they were able to issue an emergency limited use passport for him. We then updated the airlines and used it to go through US immigration on the way back. There were some extra questions about why we didn't get it before we left, but ultimately they were understanding and it was all fine.

When we got back, he filed to convert it to a 10 year passport and there were no issues with doing that. I just wanted to post this in case anyone else has an equally horribly timed emergency.

So alas I traveled out of the country last week and came back into Atlanta with my expired green card and i-551 stamp  without no issues at all ... was checked like every other GC holders and all done in less than 3 mins.

Now I'm at peace that I can travel out and in the country with my i-551 stamp ... Planning to travel to Canada in couple of weeks

mymercy got a reaction from viruso in N400 online filing 1 day too early? Can USCIS deny at interview for this reason?
Not sure about my response so take it with a 'pinch of salt' ...

I would think if the system already allows you to submit and then have you scheduled for biometrics (even though it's automated and system generated), the officer might over look it or not even noticed as well so I will keep my fingers crossed and not worry about this at all. good luck

My wife and I went through the i751 and n400 combo interview a month ago. At the time, the IO stated that she would receive both her green card and a notice of an upcoming oath ceremony. We were happy about the latter and sort of rolled our eyes about the former. We didn't think they would bother initiating the processing to generate a green card. And they haven't. Nor have they updated the online status for the i751 application. It remains "received by the local office March 5th, 2018". So if you do have an upcoming combo interview you might want to temper your expectations on receiving a green card. It might not happen. My wife did go in some months ago to get the i551 stamp which is good until July 2019 so at this point there would be no reason to need a 10 year green card. Good luck everyone. I hope everyone gets their combo interview notice soon.

They usually finish faster than that. Don't fret. On a second note, move to a none southern border state. Better conditions there for immigrants.

    Hi everyone,

First of all, good luck to all of us!!!

I submitted my application online on Sept. 8. Hopefully the biometric appointment letter will arrive in a couple of days.
Based on my location I believe Dallas office processes my application. And the estimated completion time is NOVEMBER 2020 (26 MONTHS). Holy cow!! That's so long! Anyone has any information about whether nowadays the real processing time is shorter than this estimation?

Watching the online video "examples" is like me trying to explain what the Army is like to someone and showing them recruiting videos. Everyone's experience will vary. Mine was different from the guy who joined as a cook but we both saw the same videos.

While you do state she speaks in a heavy accent, while you understand her, someone who isn't used to her voice or the accent may not right away. It can take time to become familiar with the tone and pronunciation of words. Took me a little to get used to my husband and I had known a lot of Filipinos before but each area of the Philippines has their own little uniqueness to it.

Also I believe if over say, 70 you can have a translator and bypass the English requirements.

Scheduled an info pass to get my passport stamped since I'm traveling out of the country this month. The agent gave me my GC back and told me that the stamp works instead of my expired GC.
According to the agent, they're currently filing documents from NOVEMBER 2016. I'll be applying for N400 next month...

    I751 filed 9/2017 -- GC expired 11/2017 -- Ext.letter good 'til 11/2018 -- Stamp good 'til 8/2019
