Sometimes USCIS will update the status to "Your case was sent to the Department of State...". However, updates on their website are incredibly unreliable, so you may also never see an update there again.

For NVC you can start calling them after a few weeks to inquire about your case. I'm not sure how long it's taking right now.

Took them 3 weeks as they changed over our application to electronic methods. That was in April to May.

USCIS website is done for you now. Your case wont change there anymore. After 10 to 15 days the NVC will receive your case and appoint it a new number. They wont contact you at this point, you need to call them if you want to know the case number sooner. After 10 days you can start calling. I got mine after 10 days.
Once the NVC is done with your case they will send it to the embassy, this can take 2 to 4 weeks (NVC says 4 to 6 weeks). THe NVC will send you an email or letter that they forwarded the petition to the embassy with the casenumber ect.
Once the case is at the embassy they will send package 3 to the beneficiary, which contains all he information he or she needs to complete the K1 application at the embassy.
Every embassy is unique in asking for certain evidence or documents. So make sure to fill out your account with information on the embassy you need to go through so we can help you better.

Also, please come join us in the July K1 to NVC thread. I bet most of your questions will be answered there.

The time from USCIS to NVC varies, but you have to give it at least 14 days and then you can start calling NVC for your case and invoice #

So I got an email and text confirmation today... 11 DAYS  after NOA2!
    Such a fine system!

Good luck to others there, and don't fret - even if you have not heard yet you may actually be already approved!

I hope whatever it is, you can provide soon and get approved ASAP. Good luck with your daughter's health. Did you send plenty of pictures with the petition? Did you send any proof of co-mingling of finances etc.?

@Mrss. Smith, @Joseph88, @Shelly25 and @lvsweets Can you guys please keep us informed of your status on this separate thread for Potomac I-130 filers?

Also, please consider inviting other December I-130 filers who have been sent to Potomac whom you may find on other threads. It'll help us get a clearer picture, since some folks don't update their timelines right away after approvals.

Our I-130 approval (NOA2) was May 11th, and we had an NVC case number by June 15th, much faster than 8-10 weeks. Now trying to get a correct estimate on interview date from submitting our docs so I can try to time it around travel plans

No, your observation is not correct.  Nothing to do with your case anyway, since yours is at the Potomac Service Center.

Sorry for being unclear in the post. I could have been more clear. Anyway, my wife and I have made a decision to have her move ahead of me. Thanks for taking the time out to respond. It really helps folks like me who are going through the process!

Does anyone know why Potomac Service Center hasn't approved any petition in a while? I heard the news about huge layoffs at USCIS on some other thread here. Is this a result of that?

Technically, any 221g besides that can be responded to triggers "AP".  AP just means administrative processing.  It's also the status when all they are doing is producing and sending the visa package after a full approval.  No sense arguing about the use of the term.  It's a catch all.

The domicile issue will be a judgment call at the time of the interview based on the circumstances on the ground at that time.  Since it's months from now, just deal with it when the time comes.  Get your CV ready and as detailed and documented as you can.

If you know how to build rockets, chemical weapons or bombs, etc., expect some AP time.  The more of that you have, the longer the AP.

I have a US dollar account at RBC, attached to a Canadian chequing/savings account. I am collecting CPP and it makes it super easy to convert. My CPP payment is direct deposited into the Canadian account. I can transfer whatever I wish to withdraw to the US dollar account. I have a Wells Fargo account linked to my RBC US dollar account, and I can move the money directly there. Quick and easy.  CRA also direct deposits tax refunds and it works the same way.
That's my reasoning for a US dollar account

Yes on 2 and three.  Tell the truth.  If she moves back to the US, Landed Immigrant Status in Canada is a moot point.  Frankly, it's a moot point anyway, in the context of US Immigration outside of her domicile issues.  Actually being domiciled in the US, make the domicile issue moot too.

People move, they have back up plans, there is nothing extraordinary about your story - many people in my friends and family have lived in a few countries troughout their lives.  In our case, we always knew we would only stay a few years in the US and then move on (which we will do soon) - it is called "permanent residence", not "locked down forever"  - it does not prevent you to change your plans later on.   I doubt they are going to ask you, but if they do, just explain what you have said here.  More importantly, make sure your wife has plenty of proof of her domicile in the US.
    Best of luck.

darth vader got a reaction from Lemonslice in I-130 handwritten information(can spouse write the info and petitioner sign)?
@pushbrk Are you sure, because I literally called Canada post and put my package on hold. Should I let them send it? If someone else writes on your petition, doesn't he/she become a "preparer" and needs to be declared as such?
