I-751 March 2023 Filers
Fr8dog replied to D. Sala's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Copied the dates below out of my timeline. I knew mine took awhile but forgot about it being 2 years. Filing the N400 was the only reason it got dislodged. Unless you really don't want to become a US citizen I would file the N400 just to get it moving again. Granted mine was still in the paper filing era (not sure if the ROC is digital now or not), but you still have a paper file and those go missing on occasion or papers go awol, or papers never make it into the file (I'm looking at you K-1 entry envelope). Date Filed : 2018-02-05 NOA Date : 2018-02-16 RFE(s) : 2019-04-16 Bio. Appt. : 2018-03-26 Interview Date : 2019-07-31 Approval / Denial Date : 2020-01-30 -
Questions about the N400 Online Application
Fr8dog replied to ilikepotatoes's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
I had no issue handing them over but I didn't have any. The thing was that we did not have a joined bank account, She owned the house already. I was not on any utility bill. In other words there were no financial ties at all (car insurance and phone bill was the only thing with both our names on it). At the interview we gave our reason for this. The officer told us that that made sense and would recommend approving the ROC (eventually they did when they found the last pieces of my file many moons later). They have you sit in a waiting room for awhile before they call you in, they already know what you look like from your ID. I'm sure they observe the applicants before they call them in and can spot a fake relation from a mile away. -
Like almost every form you sign for government entities, the DS160 has the "to the best of my knowledge" routine. so to the best of my knowledge it would not have to be mentioned while other people here feel that to the best of their knowledge it should. You have to pick one of the 2 and go that way. The fact that you asked it here leads me to believe you feel you should mention it so go ahead and do that. When you get to the interview they will ask you about it and then you have the option to explain.

N400 Naturalization Interview Help
Fr8dog replied to BrokenWings's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
don't worry about the speeding tickets (assuming they are all dealt with by paying fines). You can expect questions about the shoplifting. I doubt very much the previous marriage will be much of an issue either (you are no longer a conditional resident so your relationship status is not important). Bring everything you have (left) with you just in case they want to see something. Answer all questions truthfully and when it comes to legal stuff I would mention the speeding tickets. Most likely they will let you change your mind on the name change. Like mentioned before name change automatically leads to a ceremony with a judge. -
Questions about the N400 Online Application
Fr8dog replied to ilikepotatoes's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
He already did the ROC (according to you profile). They are not looking for "evidence" they already have in your file. They want the tax returns that were filed after the ROC and if you really want to you can sent some more stuff from the same period. I went with the absolute bare minimum on the online application for the N-400. One tax return and that was it. Figured if they wanted to see something they would sent me an RFE. They did not. -
No issue on the changing the date format from European to American. I would use the month name instead of the number to eliminate confusion. I see no reason to use a certified translator unless they specifically demand it. The whole thing is dumb anyway. They already have the copy you provided during the K-1 in your file. And that one was accepted as correct and accurate by the consulate officer.

N400 Interview Scheduled with I-751 Pending
Fr8dog replied to VisaVisaVisaVisa's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
The easiest answer ever; EVERYTHING!!! I had every scrap of paper related from K-1 all the way to the filing of the N-400 with me. (and never had to show anything) Better to have it with you and not need it then the other way around. -
I seriously doubt anyone would actually even notice it. They are not going to look at every photo and check to see if all the names are on there and in the correct perspective. And though I know a lot of people here swear by using lots and lots of photos they are still secondary evidence and really don't proof anything (apart from wedding pictures?) I hate photo's so I'm never in any and I didn't include any.

I-751 Packet Assembly Question
Fr8dog replied to Ladybug13's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
check on top, than a table of content page then the package I used marked post-it notes as dividers. Slit the whole thing in an envelope. No way I would sent 50 pages of a lease contract. I had the minimum of "evidence" included. car insurance, medical insurance, phone plan, school emergency contact forms for the step kids and a few other odds and ends. They still managed to loose that so I send the same stuff again. -
N-400 December 2024 Filers
Fr8dog replied to OldUser's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Let me know it that works without a passport. At the VIrginia DMV the clerk had to use my passport number to override the license renewal error she got. So now I'm just curious about it. (could have been caused by the fact I started a renewal of a license instead f just an update on citizenship. -
I-751 June 2023 Filers

@INF Assuming you haven't filed the N-400 yet, I would do it now. It may just shake loose your I-751. -
3 Months State Residency Proof Examples
Fr8dog replied to Cali_yo's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Fill out an application for a license in Virginia with a mailing address and they will issue your license with that mailing address. (Got mine renewed last month with a po box) They state your license will be issued with your mailing address and that your physical address will be on file. Request a copy of your driving record from DMV. That should give both your mailing and physical address and the issue date. -
N400 Interview - Spouse US Citizenship Proof
Fr8dog replied to stag's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Yes a valid US passport is proof of US citizenship. -
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Like you said, if the fines were under 500,= you don't need to provide any document. The only "error" is the incorrect check box. That's easy enough to correct at the interview as stated above. If you can get documents from the Germans you could request them hand them over should USCIS want to see them. (I really doubt they want them) If you request any documents from any EU country always ask if they are available in international or European format form (this includes a translation into all official languages of the EU) so you don't have to worry about translating it. .

I agree with the above (He knows way more than me about these things anyway) Isn't this the whole idea behind AOS? People that legally entered the US, without immigration status or intend, are given an option to change their status to immigrant after they encounter a qualifying event during their stay. Unless I'm overlooking something in your initial post get married ASAP and AOS. (if speed and cost is of the essence) Courthouse wedding, file AOS and wait for the AP. Or delay your religious ceremony. Anything else is potentially setting you up for problems and most likely will take longer and cost more.

Question K1 Visa Packet [merged threads]
Fr8dog replied to jobra's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Don't remind me. They probably dropped my file at some point. I got an RFE during the ROC asking for all required supporting documents. Lucky for me I had a full copy at the house. To top it off I was informed that my sealed envelope got lost (the one you hand in when you entered on your 129) and it was not reunited with my file until the morning of my interview for the N400. And they cannot aprove the ROC without it -
Question K1 Visa Packet [merged threads]
Fr8dog replied to jobra's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Wouldn't surprise me. I was later to the game then you but I assume you also had to go the all paper mail in route (everything but my N400 was paper file). I got to see my actual file folder during the N400 interview it was about 5 inches thick. And like most here know by now, I only provided minimal evidence. Almost every time I went to the Norfolk field office the walls of the halls were lined with tons of moving boxes with nothing but immigrant files. I lived close to field office in those days and drove by it very regular. The amount of box trucks I have seen there dropping off and picking up was astonishing. Like several of them every week. -

Also keep in mind that you are not the only one that sends an application. They have a ton of them to handle and I'm sure they are given a limited amount of time to go over each one. Also if they have a bunch of new people they need some time to get up to speed and may not realize something is out of order. Lastly everybody makes mistakes. We the applicants but also the USCIS. We are all human and we all make them. It's annoying but in the grand scheme of things its a small speed bump on a very long highway. -
Do not ship anything with Lithium batteries unless you have to. Also never pack them in your carry-on luggage. (unless instructed by the airline). Lipo's are hazmat and hazmat is expensive to ship. Most of the time if has to go CAO (cargo aircraft only). And a lot of airlines flat out refuse them making the few that do even more expensive. I know Temu stuff gets shipped with them all the time, but they use the Chinese postal service. Air-mail is a whole different animal and it takes to long to explain how they get away with it when you won't. On the rest of your stuff. Pack it up and make sure the boxes are solid. If your box is the first in the bin it will get about 90 inches of stuff piled on top. Marking fragile will get ignored (check the fine print, they can). Ship it around the time you leave yourself. search for non couriers that ship packages to, usually cheaper then FED-ex/UPS. (also check DHL). Most couriers/shippers require you to fill out a detail list of the content of the boxes. (as US customs requires them to do it) For the general description of the shipment you can use "used personal items" or "used household goods" (something like that) do not use "unaccompanied baggage" On the list you don't have to go crazy. for example "clothing" will be too general but "4x pants, 2x shoes" is usually detailed enough.

If I recall correctly USCIS checks 2 things regarding income tax for applicants. - have all applicable years been filed, if not is there a valid reason for that (for instance you have filed an extension). - Have all owed taxes been payed. If there are any back taxes/fines owed to the IRS, is there a record of these taxes/fines being payed (the payment plan). The actual wording was way more legal but I think that was what it boiled down to. If this is still the case, your RFE could be cleared by the new payment plan. To cover your rear, I suggest maintaining all records of the new payment plan. This include phone logs (times + name of person you talked to), emails, screen shots of your online account showing the plan is in place. As for how long this will take, that's anyone's guess. could be a few weeks, could be several months.
