"in Care Of" Question
Fr8dog replied to Ladybug13's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Do not use the "in care of" unless you your using an address that is not yours. You fill out your mailing address and your physical address. Leave it blank or N/A it (check the instructions) The "in care off" is a way for the USPS to deliver mail that is not addressed to the actual resident. It should be used for stuff like; having your mail delivered at an hotel having stuff addressed to you but delivered to your parents while you are over you for the holidays. have mail delivered to an office for a specific person By law the USPS is not allowed to deliver mail to address that is not yours (nobody cares anymore but it's still there). USCIS has to give the option for you to abide by the postal laws. -
The invitation to the oath is the first time they officially mention the return of the green card(s). It states to return all cards that are in your possession and were issued by the USCIS. You can't turn in what you don't have and the filed police report is the proof you don't have it. File the police report (More a "cover your rear" move then anything else) Wait for the 10 year card and file the N-400. (It has always stated it can take up to 60 days that is their "cover your rear"move).

K1 NOA1 Delay?
Fr8dog replied to nrufino's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
it can go either way with them. I-129F was taking around 6 months when I filed (till visa in hand). Took about 10 months to have the visa back AOS was taking around 14 to 16 months when I filed. Had that one in hand in 2 months. ROC took 2 years when the people around me got it done in less then a year. N400 would have been fast again with about 3 months, but then COVID happened. it all depends what box your file is in, what room the box is in, what service center you end up in and what consulate you get to deal with. And that is without even looking at the petition, cause there are several months worth potential delays in that as well. (RFE's, back ground checks, AP etc etc) -
Not according to State department Do you still have the passport in your possession? Note: If you want to renew both a valid passport book and passport card, you must submit both documents. For example, if you can submit a passport book, but you lost your passport card, you cannot renew the passport card. If you want to renew either a valid book or a card, you must submit the specific document you want to renew. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/form-finder.html

recommend 4 hrs (as most here). If you get unlucky you drop in at the same time as a bunch of other international flights and then the line to the first desk can easily be an hour. Then it's of to secondary where it all depends on how many are in front of you, why they got sent to secondary and how understaffed they are. Once you get to the actual desk it will take minutes. If your plane is the only international flight (unlikely in ATL) and you are one of the first ones of the plane. You can be done with the whole things in 5 minutes.

UPS, FedEx or USPS?
Fr8dog replied to Ladybug13's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
6 of 1 or half a dozen of the other. They generally all get there. (Occasionally all of them will loose or damage a shipment. It's rare but it happens They all offer proof of delivery (that's the one you want for your own sanity) None of them offer insurance for anything but the value of the content (it's paper so that may be $0.25) Resulting damages is always excluded (read the fine print). Only exception might be the value of the check or the money order (expect to pay additional insurance for that if you are really concerned) -
Normally I would say that that is no issue, but that is based on passports from the same origin (I know HKG is part of PRC but I'm not sure how the state department views that). You may want to try and email the consulate/state department and see if they will give you an answer. You can keep using your current passport (No idea how much of an issue that is for you) and have the visa put in that. Than get your HKG passport and when they void your old passport make sure they don't damage the K1 visa. When you present your visa, they scan/read that. The passport it's in does not have to be valid. (done that myself several times) You can roll the dice and just change it. If the HKG is viewed as a Chinese passport by the US it's no different then when people get a new passport. You can wait till the interview to present the new one and they'll update the DS-160 details right there. But most importantly make sure the US views a HKG passport as a PRC passport.

I-751 March 2023 Filers
Fr8dog replied to D. Sala's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Copied the dates below out of my timeline. I knew mine took awhile but forgot about it being 2 years. Filing the N400 was the only reason it got dislodged. Unless you really don't want to become a US citizen I would file the N400 just to get it moving again. Granted mine was still in the paper filing era (not sure if the ROC is digital now or not), but you still have a paper file and those go missing on occasion or papers go awol, or papers never make it into the file (I'm looking at you K-1 entry envelope). Date Filed : 2018-02-05 NOA Date : 2018-02-16 RFE(s) : 2019-04-16 Bio. Appt. : 2018-03-26 Interview Date : 2019-07-31 Approval / Denial Date : 2020-01-30 -
Questions about the N400 Online Application
Fr8dog replied to ilikepotatoes's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
I had no issue handing them over but I didn't have any. The thing was that we did not have a joined bank account, She owned the house already. I was not on any utility bill. In other words there were no financial ties at all (car insurance and phone bill was the only thing with both our names on it). At the interview we gave our reason for this. The officer told us that that made sense and would recommend approving the ROC (eventually they did when they found the last pieces of my file many moons later). They have you sit in a waiting room for awhile before they call you in, they already know what you look like from your ID. I'm sure they observe the applicants before they call them in and can spot a fake relation from a mile away. -
Like almost every form you sign for government entities, the DS160 has the "to the best of my knowledge" routine. so to the best of my knowledge it would not have to be mentioned while other people here feel that to the best of their knowledge it should. You have to pick one of the 2 and go that way. The fact that you asked it here leads me to believe you feel you should mention it so go ahead and do that. When you get to the interview they will ask you about it and then you have the option to explain.

N400 Naturalization Interview Help
Fr8dog replied to BrokenWings's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
don't worry about the speeding tickets (assuming they are all dealt with by paying fines). You can expect questions about the shoplifting. I doubt very much the previous marriage will be much of an issue either (you are no longer a conditional resident so your relationship status is not important). Bring everything you have (left) with you just in case they want to see something. Answer all questions truthfully and when it comes to legal stuff I would mention the speeding tickets. Most likely they will let you change your mind on the name change. Like mentioned before name change automatically leads to a ceremony with a judge. -
Questions about the N400 Online Application
Fr8dog replied to ilikepotatoes's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
He already did the ROC (according to you profile). They are not looking for "evidence" they already have in your file. They want the tax returns that were filed after the ROC and if you really want to you can sent some more stuff from the same period. I went with the absolute bare minimum on the online application for the N-400. One tax return and that was it. Figured if they wanted to see something they would sent me an RFE. They did not. -
No issue on the changing the date format from European to American. I would use the month name instead of the number to eliminate confusion. I see no reason to use a certified translator unless they specifically demand it. The whole thing is dumb anyway. They already have the copy you provided during the K-1 in your file. And that one was accepted as correct and accurate by the consulate officer.

N400 Interview Scheduled with I-751 Pending
Fr8dog replied to VisaVisaVisaVisa's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
The easiest answer ever; EVERYTHING!!! I had every scrap of paper related from K-1 all the way to the filing of the N-400 with me. (and never had to show anything) Better to have it with you and not need it then the other way around. -
I seriously doubt anyone would actually even notice it. They are not going to look at every photo and check to see if all the names are on there and in the correct perspective. And though I know a lot of people here swear by using lots and lots of photos they are still secondary evidence and really don't proof anything (apart from wedding pictures?) I hate photo's so I'm never in any and I didn't include any.

I-751 Packet Assembly Question
Fr8dog replied to Ladybug13's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
check on top, than a table of content page then the package I used marked post-it notes as dividers. Slit the whole thing in an envelope. No way I would sent 50 pages of a lease contract. I had the minimum of "evidence" included. car insurance, medical insurance, phone plan, school emergency contact forms for the step kids and a few other odds and ends. They still managed to loose that so I send the same stuff again. -
N-400 December 2024 Filers
Fr8dog replied to OldUser's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Let me know it that works without a passport. At the VIrginia DMV the clerk had to use my passport number to override the license renewal error she got. So now I'm just curious about it. (could have been caused by the fact I started a renewal of a license instead f just an update on citizenship.
