confused about oath ceremony
Fr8dog replied to steeeeve's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
To all US citizens that meet the urgent travel requirement. As in there are no special provisions for new citizens during the ceremony. -
N-400 Speeding Ticket, AR11 and SSN questions.
Fr8dog replied to Andres1987's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Not having to submit documents is not the same as not reporting. You check the box, write down you got a ticket. You do not need to submit the paperwork. (providing the ticket falls within that statement). -
confused about oath ceremony
Fr8dog replied to steeeeve's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
After approval of the N400, there will be either a judicial oath ceremony (Judge) or an administrative oath ceremony (USCIS). Name change will result in a court house. Administrative will be at the USCIS office and if they have the option, they can offer same day service (initiated by USCIS). Some jurisdictions may insist on Judicial (Virgina was/is one of them) and that means court house. Same day passport service is available to all US citizens. It requires confirmed travel plans and a trip to the Passport centre. As most ceremonies are later in the day it's basically impossible to do both on the same day. -
N-400 online filing - 5 year rule document
Fr8dog replied to igoyougoduke's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
If you want to go the minimal route, just start the application online and see what it requires to make you go to the next stage. (That's what I did). If you have the transcripts available, might as well upload them. It's not like they don't have access to them already. Regardless of what you end up doing, bring everything with you to the interview. -
An apostille, according to the Hague convention, is a certificate that shows that the person certifying the document is who they claim to be. It basically certifies that the certifying person is certified. It makes no claims on the document itself. USCIS does not require those. The word is also known to be used in various languages and countries to mean notarized and or certified. I would advise the OP to go with JeanneAdill suggestions as they have dealt with the Moroccan embassy.

N400 Online Filing - When did you move here?
Fr8dog replied to Broccoli Girl's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
You can make an argument for either date. If you visit (B2) it's not your address. But the only address you have is that one and you moved in the day you arrived so that date is correct as well. The forms have the clause "to the best of your ability" at the signature line and you signed what you believed to be true and correct at that time. Regardless of the date you pick, you can get in front of any potential issue by mentioning it first thing during the interview. -
Renewing a passport as close as possible to the interview date is recommended. (It just makes life easier later on as the Dutch passport can be a pain in the rear to maintain later). You can update the passport number during the interview. Make sure to have them return your old passport after they voided it. You can renew a Dutch passport whenever you feel like it as long as you are willing to pay the fee. I did this exact same thing

Prepare for n400 interview Oct 1, 2025
Fr8dog replied to Nishris's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
Bring everything you have (minus the phone, that one stays in the car). Hubby will most likely not even be called upon but you can bring him to. Unless the letters have changed (it's been a while), they mention you can (or should) bring additional info for the marriage not previously submitted. Personally I went with the "right sure whatever" approach and did not bring any additional info (wasn't asked for it either). The main reason for bringing everything is that if something has gone missing or was overlooked (rare but it happens) you have it with you and can immediately correct the situation (the only reason I had originals and copies of every document paperwork with me). Generally if stuff has gone AWOL from your file it's stuff from previous petitions and from snail mail. If you've uploaded it, they will have it. Photo's are one of those items I would not (and did not) bother with. But you do what you feel comfortable with. Don't feel sad if they only want to see your passport and greencard, answer 6 questions instead of 10 (memorize the "local/current name" questions you'll most likely get of them) and try to get you out of their office and into an oath ASAP. -
Questions about n400
Fr8dog replied to WannabeHuman's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
That one is different then the ones I've dealt with before. Going by this letter it appears they want to see proof of your spouse being a US citizen not just a passport. I would not be surprised if a passport will do the trick, but the wording in the letter does give them the option to demand more. If she has the CBRA I would most certainly bring it. Her birth certificate alone would not work as it is a Canadian one. Worse case scenario this may be the actual first time I see a need for a N600 petition. -
Questions about n400
Fr8dog replied to WannabeHuman's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Really need to have the exact wording of the letter here. If it is the standard letter it usually has something stating passport to proof US citizenship. But if this one is "tailored" to your situation they may actually want to see the FS-240. -
No joint account here, never had one, probably will never have one. It's not required to have one, financial co-mingling is not required. Having a real marriage is required and somehow people feel that shared finances proofs that. You give them what you have and if they have questions they will ask them.

Employed upon k1 entry
Fr8dog replied to bingi2's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
That was my exact reasoning when answering that question. I had almost 2 months of paid vacation left when I arrived. I was not employed by a US firm and I was not working in the US. -
You can get same day service if you can get an appointment. Getting the appointment used to be the hardest part but I think it's getting easier nowadays. there is an extra charge for it, but you'll have your passport in hours. (30 minutes in line for the appointment and then wait a few hours to come back and collect the passport). Great thing is they give back your certificate when they hand you your passport. I went to DC so parking was a pain but other then that it was pretty straight forward. You must have proof of travel plans (hotel reservation will do it) and you can only schedule max 10 days out. Traveling as a US citizen, you are required to enter and leave on your US passport. You will be let into the country without a passport but you get to spent time in secondary and are looking at potential fines if you do it intentionally.

i765 denied and i485 pending
Fr8dog replied to ggisuf's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Sure, Tier one people have the exact same info in front of them as you can get using the online accounts. They just give you the same information with some additional wording trying to make it sound more official. Tier two has slightly more info but good luck trying to get a hold of one of them. I have found the phone system to be an excellent option for scheduling appointments and that's it. Wait for the letter. That is your starting point. -
i765 denied and i485 pending
Fr8dog replied to ggisuf's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Without having the letter we can only speculate at this point. Could be the expedite, because the original is about to be approved. Could be both of them since the "system" finds you too close to an interview for the I-485. Could be you had an error in the application or even them hitting the wrong buttons. -
I personally wouldn't mess with it. I seriously doubt it will be spotted before the package makes it to the embassy/consulate. Just mention/correct it during the interview. In theory it could lead to an RFE leading to a delay. But you can just as easily create a much larger delay by trying to get it corrected with the petition in transit between different desks
-
Yep, that's the thing. If it's tight to a receipt number correct/mention at start of interview. Otherwise you can redo the form (I'm pretty sure the site actually mentions something to that effect if you try to redo one.

For those still confused or anxious. You travel on your new passport. Use the info from the new passport. The new passport is shown to everybody that needs to see a passport during your travel. The old passport with the complete, undamaged and still valid visa is used during check-in. (most if not all airline staff at check-in are familiar with this). And to the CBP officers at the US border. Your old passport is nothing more than a place where your valid visa lives.
