That's really lovely and I like your story. When my husband and I eloped, we didn't get rings because we're young, silly, and like to think we're iconoclastic. The wedding officiant was a little by perplexed how we stumbled in. You beat us!

I'd have loved to go to your wedding. We didn't have a reception either. First, we visited his parents and told them that we'd eloped. Our best friend knew because she was the witness. We told others as we came across them, since neither of us is active on social media. Eventually, my husband and I hosted a home-cooked dinner for his family and a few of our closest friends (~15 people; my parents couldn't fly in because it was too expensive). Hopefully the lack of a reception won't be a red flag. Your post makes me feel better.

This was mine and my husbands second marriage. We paid $50 for a courthouse wedding, Only had my 2 step-kids with us, ate steak after and fell asleep on the couch for the rest of the afternoon LOL

Heh, thanks. We didn't do a wedding cake either, but we got a blueberry muffin from the bakery (hubby's favorite), and we put a unicorn and Batman figurines on top, like cake toppers. Then did the whole cutting it with both our hands and giving a piece to each other. Lots of fun!

Wow guys, even if there are no movement yet on most of us, WE HAVE TO BE VERY THANKFUL TO BELONG TO THIS VERY ACTIVE GROUP!!

Some AOS forums that are older than ours have less than 100 pages but us, we are already on our 111th page and still going.

Not that we are competing, I'm just so glad that we have become comfortable with each other to talk about our ups and downs in this journey!

One more day and this week is done again and thanks to all of you for whatever issues or questions you share because I have something to look forward to read every morning after I send the kids to school and each night before I sleep.

Happy a good rest of the week!

May the fourth be with us! hahaha #StarWarsDay

My ring is a silver unicorn, and my husband has a silvery Batman ring. We couldn't afford the nice ones so we decided to go for something that's totally us. We have the pics from our wedding and everything. People always love it when we explain, and they're totally personal to us.

I've seen wills are good evidence from the ROC forum, so I expect they will be for AOS interviews too.

Best advice I can give you is to join the monthly filers thread for your month, so you can stay in touch with members with similar timelines as you. It helps to see how long, on average, it's taking members to reach the next milestones in the process.

Received Biometrics letters for my wife and daughter today.  It's on May 3rd at 8am.  I should be receiving the RFIE letter on Monday.

You should receive a letter for both of them. I did ask and the officer said they almost always get a letter now, because of the picture. My kid got her picture taken, and had one index finger fingerprinted.

What they mean, most likely, is they need the physical copy of the paperwork he signed, not a mail/DHL receipt. Most people don't have sisters who are traveling to the country of their fiance so they ask that you snail mail the paperwork.

I think one thing they like to see is photos of the couple at family and social events, because they look not just at co-mingling finances but also at co-mingling social lives. That second aspect is harder to prove and photos are one way of achieving that. So, they're not actively looking at evidence that the families support the marriage but more that the couple does couple-y things together - like attend family events.

SparklePony reacted to KayDeeCee in Is getting an SSN a requirement for filing for AOS/EAD?
No, that is not a fact. Getting married does not make you ineligible for an SSN. However, many SSA workers know nothing about K-1 visas or immigration in general, so they do not understand/know their own policies. One main problem is that many of them want to see US government ID in the new married name and won't accept the marriage certificate alone, as they should. They will then delay the SSN being issued because of the names being mismatched in the system.

This is why it is advised to apply for the SSN under maiden name/name on the K-1 visa, whether you have married yet or not. Of course if you are not changing your name through marriage, then this shouldn't be an issue at all. BUT, people in the past have even been told that marrying changed their status from a K-1 to a K-2 or K-3. Which goes back to the SSA workers not knowing anything about immigration or their own SSA policies.

The advice to use name on K-1 visa for SSN and then get it changed later to married name after having the EAD or green card is just to try and have people avoid further delays and hassles.

No experience on this but I'm thinking the renewal petition would become void once you become a citizen. Personally, I would wait until you're officially a USC and then contact USCIS about the renewal.

I have read there's only a need for 2+2 passport photos and 1+1 copy of the passport. It seems logical to me that this is because the EAD and the AP get processed together now as a combo card. So really one set is for the I-485 and the other set is for the combo card. All this assuming you get all three NOA1s. If one of the applications gets lost (that happened to me) and you have to refile it, then you would need an extra set of photos and copies.

As for preemptively avoiding an RFE, I think that's not logical, especially because they ask that you return the RFE paper with the response.

The scenario raises a couple of questions for CBP. You have already demonstrated immigration intent and have no real ties to the U.K. You left the U.K. with the intention of going for good and went to great lengths to convince immigration that you should be granted a K-1 visa only to "change your mind" when you arrived. Sounds like you have no job if you are considering going back again right away. Your reason for abandoning the USA sounds suspicious - with the greatest respect to you. Your girlfriend just decided within a space of less than 90 days to transfer her studies to the U.K. after having spent over $1000 to get you in to the country and going through all that paperwork, medical, you quit your job and left your family... And she got a place at a university and a student visa that quickly in the middle of the academic year? I doubt that CBP will buy that story. I'm struggling to believe it.

And you you say you want to go back to complete your holiday? What holiday needs to be completed? You just had a 90-day holiday. The CBP officer will likely feel that is sufficient time already for a holiday.

For Canada I highly doubt that will be an issue, especially if you have a co-sponsor. Besides, think of all the college students who apply then find a job after graduating. It's not as rare a situation as you might think.
