The US politician likes to make laws they don't really get enforced. We keep talking about overhauling our immigration policies because it's "broken", yet repeat the same thing once a new law passes.

If you take away incentives like being able to work illegally, serious crack down on employers who hire illegals, fully implement E-verify or some other for of universal check for employers, and things like that you'll probably put a better dent on illegal migration.

I honestly don't blame the illegals as I have no clue what I would do if I was in their shoes, but if word spreads that doing so provides not economic incentive that may help deter one from coming illegally. In regards to safety/security, that's something that needs to be addressed by the UN in my opinion.

Just take it for what it is. 2 consenting adults, so they can do what they want. If it works out great, if it doesn't don't complain about it afterwards.

One can always volunteer at a hospital. Before my wife, I used meetup.com to do things outside work.

If you take continuing education courses (for either professional/personal growth), the rate is the same for everyone.

I've heard the UK allows for self sponsorship, so if you fiancé has enough assets to overcome the poverty/public charge issues it's worth pursing the K1/CR1. However, the CO does look at the totality of your circumstance.

Doesn't the UK have stricter financial requirements than the US?

Green Card Holders (Lawful Permanent Resident) Working in the United States
If you are a green card holder employed by a foreign government or international organization, you are not subject to self-employment taxes and may not voluntarily participate in the U.S. social security system.
If you expect to have tax due at the end of the year, you must file estimated tax payments because your compensation is not subject to withholding. The estimated payments ensure that you have paid your proper amount of tax throughout the year. Estimated payments are made using Form 1040ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals. Forms are filed quarterly: April 15th, June 15th, September 15th, and January 15th. There is a penalty for failure to make estimated tax payments.

It actually does matter even if the work is forgiven by marrying a US citizen in regard to work. If one wants to work right away, then go for the CR1/IR1. The K1 does not allow you to work without authorization plain and simple.

OP, personally I don't think what you are doing is considered work but that's just my opinion. What are the terms/condition/rules? Do they report such prize to the IRS?

Get married ASAP and add immigrant spouse on one's employer based health insurance plan (does not need to have AOS filed to get coverage). That's what we did.

If that option is not available then you will need to first apply for AOS, and once you get the I-797c (NOA) you can look at the marketplace.

Applicants for any of these statuses qualify to use the Marketplace:
Temporary Protected Status with Employment Authorization Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Victim of Trafficking Visa Adjustment to LPR Status https://www.healthcare.gov/immigrants/immigration-status/

If you are trying to get coverage before marriage, filing the AOS, or not be included to the US spouse employer based health plan, then you could look for short term medical coverage but they tend to be crappy policies with many stipulations.

I was able to get all my wife’s missing vaccinations through my medical insurance free of charge, so it may be an option for some folks to check out.

We ended up paying  $50 for the CS to complete immunization section of the I-693.

Would such system work based on the US population size or immigration policy (the US is more family based than merit)? One thing is for sure, the US can't continue the path it's currently heading.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the embassy in the Philippines allows the petitioner to be with the beneficiary during the interview. If so, I highly recommend you attend next time. While my wife and I did not go through the Philippines, I was allowed to attend her interview in Warsaw Poland. My wife was calmer with me there, and I was able to interact with the CO to answer any questions that they may have.

Umka36 got a reaction from TBoneTX in cultural differences
I got more of this between my wife and I at her home country as it's more homogenous. Never really had any issues with family and friends about race, but cultural difference was a different matter for my parents as they were raised differently (FWIW all but one of their grandchildren are of mixed race).

This really only happened when waiting in line, but before we had kids people mistook my wife as another customer who was behind me. I never took it personally and just made a joke out of it.
