I had my interview this morning and passed. The officer did my oath immediately after and I walked out a US Citizen! It was a little bitter-sweet since my wife couldn't be there to watch, but with COVID regulations I understand. I don't know if this is a common practice in different states, but it seemed like at Denver everyone was taking their Oath immediately after the interview in the office you were tested in. I saw several other people walking out with packets and the American flag they give you 😄

    Hi friends,
    Citizenship interview has been scheduled!
I filed online on Sept 8. Local office is Los Angeles downtown. I received an email on March 4 about “an action was taken on your case.” So I went to the USCIS portal and saw the interview letter, scheduled for the third week of April, although the letter hasn’t arrived by postal mail yet.
Things are moving forward! Good luck to all.

    Good Evening LA filers,

I had my Oath Ceremony yesterday in DTLA. It is held outside in the courtyard behind the building. It is quick and I guess other people can come with you because it is open to the public. There are 2 desks:
    - one to check you in, punch a hole in the green card, staple it with your appointment letter and give you an envelop (with inside: the little flag, what to do next and a passport application), you are then directed to stand in front of an officer who will read the pledge of allegiance in front of a small group, and once done, you go into another line to go to the second desk.
    - the second desk is where you give your punched green card and you are remitted the certificate of naturalization.

there are flags in the courtyard where you can take pictures with your love ones if you want.

Good luck to all the applicants still waiting for this moment. I wish you all the best 🇺🇸

And that's a wrap on everything.  I had my citizenship interview yesterday morning at 11:00 am in Nashville. Very relaxed interview as well, which was helpful for the nerves. There were soooo many yes and no questions for the first part of the interview. After that, we went onto the civics part and this is where it becomes a huge blur because it went so fast all of the sudden. I remember being asked who our current President is and what Benjamin Franklin is known for, what is one of the four amendments about who can vote, what was one important thing Abraham Lincoln and the rest I legit don't remember, but she stopped after question 6 as you already passed at that point. Then I had to say, "We celebrate Thanksgiving in November" and write on the iPad,  "Thanksgiving is in November". Quickly afterwards, I signed a couple of documents on the tablet and had to make sure everything on my certificate will be correct. She then did the Pledge of Allegiance with me, and I received my certificate a half an hour later! Phew,  no more immigration!

Good luck to everyone who is still awaiting their interview or will go soon. It's really not terrible and nerve wrecking (I can say 9/10 on the Secret deodorant for keeping me dry) and I don't recommend spilling coffee on your pants 5 minutes before you go into the building either hehe.

All good advice above, si man.
Before the arrival of Mini-Bone, Mrs. T-B. (who already spoke fairly fluent English) & I would lie in bed at night and she would read me paragraphs at random from books or magazines that she chose at random. I would help her with the tough words. She had (and still has) the Guayaca tendency to omit the ends of her words. (She spent a lot of time in Cuenca & Gualaquiza, too, so it's a bummer that the Guayaquil Syndrome* hung on.)
Doing the nightly readings was an important action that I wish had continued. Now, any TV that she watches is Univision or Telemundo (the novelas, of course -- soap operas), and watching the news helps me with my pidgin Spanish, but she has improved only in vocabulary and not discernibly in pronunciation. Mini-B.'s toddler videos in English aren't much help, no man.
She joined a mommy group where she's the only non-gringa member, and she mentioned that it's like an impromptu English class.
When she first got here, she took a free English class at a church. Without exception, her classmates (of all nationalities) were vocal in their envy that she was married to a gringo and could continuously practice.
I also think that this explains why the local Hispanics lack English skills or are ashamed to "try" because they'll make mistakes. It's a pride issue. They're married to "their own" and have no reason to fumble around with each other in English during the hustle and bustle of daily life. I visit the butcher counter at the local Mexican supermarket fairly often. Before ordering, I ask the butcher Habla usted Ingles? [do you speak English?] If he says "no" or "not much," I say, yo tampoco [me neither], and that invariably results in his relaxation and a smile. If he says "yes" or "much," I say "me, too," and that evokes the same reaction. This was all Mrs. T-B.'s idea, incidentally.
Latin pride (often internal and unspoken) should not be underestimated, no man. Shyness and fear of looking foolish are a big factor. Do everything you can to encourage the new speaker and make every little step, however small, feel like progress, si man.

Some months ago, I came home, and this dialogue ensued:
Mrs. T-B.: I bought you cheap.
    T-B.: What did you say?
Mrs. T-B.: I bought you cheap.
T-B.: You bought me cheap? What the dickens does THAT mean? I'm not that cheap. And don't let Immigration hear you say that.
Mrs. T-B. [frustrated]: Cheap, CHEAP! I bought you CHEAP!
Further investigation revealed that she had gone to the store and bought me a bag of potato cheaps, si man.

    Hey y'all.
Just thought I would post a little EAD related snippet that I received from my USCIS field office yesterday (I had a chatty immigration officer .
I made an infopass appointment for yesterday morning in Tucson because I received an email from USCIS updating me on my pending EAD application, which has been sitting in Initial review since Feb. 6. The email basically said that my background check was not yet complete and if I don't hear anything in the next 6 months to call in and get an update. This made me LOL initially as I have my AOS interview next week - but then I kinda panicked because if the background hasn't been done will they put me in admin. processing after my interview pending the results??
(side note: I received my AP docs already - separate from the EAD obviously).
Anyway, when I spoke with the officer yesterday she said there is a growing trend among AOS applications that if the applicant is selected for an interview (as opposed to getting waived), they are getting their PR before they receive their work permits. This is because they have gotten more efficient at processing the I-485s and that the EAD background checks are getting held up at the FBI for whatever internal reason that has nothing to do with the applicant. Further, the background checks that they do for the work authorization have ZERO to do with your AOS app. ZERO . She shared with me that in a nutshell, even though you file all your applications concurrently, they are uncoupled from each other when they are received and treated independently - It just so happens that my AOS app is proceeding along faster than my EAD. She told me not to read anything into this, it's just administrative circumstance.
So, don't panic if your EAD hasn't moved but your AOS has. If you have a job offer pending or you can prove that not having the EAD is causing you significant financial hardship you can make an infopass appointment, plead your case and beg for them to grant you interim EAD but if you have a scheduled AOS interview you may as well wait it out for just a little longer.
Hope this gives those waiting on EAD some comfort.
On an unrelated but kinda neat side note: I filed my K-1 petition on April 30th of 2013 and my AOS interview is on April 30th of this year

Hi February filers! I am extremely glad to have this support group to keep our hearts warm.
Our NOA2 was approved on Monday! Apart from thanking Jesus, would also love to give thanks to all here. Though I don't post much, I get encouragement through all your posts here. Anyway, to those yet to receive the approval, I believe this month is our month! Don't give up there! My fiance and I were quarreling about a possible RFE yesterday without knowing our case status was changed the day before. Funny how things turned out when we least expected. Good luck!

With the new CBP process, a CBP officer will stamp the travel document of each arriving non-immigrant traveler. The admission stamp will show the date of admission, class of admission, and the date that the traveler is admitted until. Travelers will also receive on arrival a flier alerting them to go to CBP.gov/I94 for their admission record information.
    CBP.gov/I94

Travelers will not need to do anything differently upon exiting the U.S. Travelers previously issued a paper Form I-94 would surrender it to the commercial carrier or to CBP upon departure. If travelers did not receive a paper Form I-94, CBP will record the departure electronically via manifest information provided by the carrier or by CBP.
