GuruSikh reacted to SusieQQQ in Question about Photo on Naturalization Certificate
Sometime before 2018, which is when I applied? I didn’t need to submit photos (and did submit online).

No photos required to be filed from applicants within the US. Not sure why lawyer asked for them. From the instructions: Photographs. Only applicants who reside overseas must provide two identical color photographs of yourself taken recently. Page 10, https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/n-400instr.pdf

May be she had applied for naturalization few years ago. Photos were required for N400 filing at the time. USCIS dropped that requirement after they got a good hold on online filing.

During COVID many offices switched to smaller same day ceremonies for those who got approved that day. My husband and daughter both had same day ceremonies with maybe 20 people a few hours after their interviews, I had to wait 6 weeks after my interview (at the same FO but pre-Covid) to attend a huge (1300 people? Something like that) ceremony. So it really depends on the FO and what they can organize.

Definitely misread your post, sorry. Yes, she will receive certificate of naturalization and have to give her green card back. The day my husband had his oath ceremony there was one in the morning (we saw people leaving with flags) and one in the afternoon. I think maybe he got lucky there were ceremonies that day- no additional info needed on his case and officer approved him (his case) for naturalization on the spot and told us to return in a few hours for the ceremony.

Find this whole discussion a little confusing. We have 3 in our family who naturalized and one (minor child) who derived citizenship automatically. All 4 certificates have the photos from the biometrics. I don’t recall a photo being taken at my interview at all, and I don’t even recall seeing any discussion of such a thing happening until this thread. I do recall the lady at my biometrics appointment saying it would be the photo that went on my naturalization certificate. Does this possibly vary by FO?

Husbands naturalization certificate photo was from his biometrics appointment. It’s possible you may have a same day oath ceremony as interview. Husband did in March of this year.

1. They took a picture of me at my N400 interview but used the picture from my GC biometrics on the certificate - I guess they thought that the 5 years since bios hadn't played out well for me
2. The questions on the back of the interview invite should be completed on the day of the oath. At my oath they checked all forms and asked folks to complete them before going into the ceremony. I filled mine a day before then signed it at the USCIS office before handing it over.
3. Yes, right after the ceremony. They will call out your name and you walk over to the desk (at least in Houston) and then they will walk you through the details of the certificate to ensure everything is correct. This is your only chance to get a new and cost free certificate if any details are wrong.

GuruSikh reacted to Mike E in Question about Photo on Naturalization Certificate
Usually the one taken at the interview. It can be the one from the biometric appointment.
Unusual but it happens. My interview letter said not to bring photos, and during the interview my IO asked me where my photos were. I said “the letter said not to bring them”. He said “well our digital camera isn’t working today, so I need photos”. I got photos made that day and returned them to USCIS the next day (I was the last interview before the office closed fir the day).
The certificate used a photo I didn’t recognize, so I assume it was from biometrics 11 months prior
Since then the San Joae field office now has beneficiary attending an interview take biometrics at one of an array of desks that is separate from the normal biometrics room. This way they don’t need to have one of the special digital cameras per interview room.
Same here. USCIS wants extra photos because the machine that prints naturalization certificates is designed to print just two certificates using the same image. So if there is a printer problem (paper jam, ink issue, etc.) USCIS wants a backup photo to make two more attempts.
I believe it is technically possible to do this because the martial status of an oath taker can
change between interview and oath and the certificate should be correct when the oath is taken. Also there can be technical errors in the actual certificate. Finally I can imagine sometimes certificates aren’t printed for the reasons I gave above and before the actual oath, USCIS grabs the oath taker for another photo taking.
She should bring two pairs of photos to the N-400 oath and ask if they can print a new one there. Can’t hurt to ask.
USCIS is under no obligation to grant her request. She might be told that granting the request would delay oath.
I didn’t receive 8 questions on my letter so I’ve no idea. What are these 8 questions? Perhaps post the entire letter minus the case number, names, and other identifying info.
I believe there is no way to have oath without being given a naturalization certificate.
In any case, I would (and would have) refuse(d) to take the oath AND hand over my green card without a naturalization certificate in hand.

GuruSikh reacted to clauric in Question about Photo on Naturalization Certificate
After my interview, I had the same day oath. They used my photo from the last biometric when I did my renewal for my permanent resident card which was back in 2014. The certificate was already printed and ready to go when I got to my oath ceremony. The oath ceremony happened 10 minutes after my interview. I have no idea if there is an opportunity to have a new picture for the certificate since I had the same day oath ceremony as my interview.

GuruSikh reacted to biaobiao in Question about Photo on Naturalization Certificate
Question 1 - photo will be taken during the interview
question 2 - complete it before you take your oath (complete it ahead of time)
question 3 - they will hand you the certificate after the oath

GuruSikh reacted to Soksboy in Interview Checklist + Question
My usual response to this type of question in general is for you to look at the list of required documents, take that ones that apply to your case (each case is different)
Take the original of the documents you submitted and you should be good to go.
Asking for a list of required documents here is kind of vague

My interview
My interview letter specifically states
"If copies of a document were submitted as evidence with your N400 application, the originals of those documents should be brought to the interview."

GuruSikh reacted to Dashinka in Interview Checklist + Question
The checklist for the interview for the N400 is fairly extensive, but of course much of it may not apply. I would review that list and make sure you have evidence for all the items that apply to your wife's application. Also, I would take a copy of all the evidence she submitted with the application just in case. More than likely it will be unnecessary, but she would rather have it instead of getting an RFE for something that got lost in the USCIS system.
Good Luck!

GuruSikh reacted to SusieQQQ in N-400. Should we accept or decline Medicad?
I wasn’t asked about anything to do with public charge in my interview. My understanding is that it only affects getting a green card. Obviously if you or your wife want to sponsor anyone then it’s going to be an issue from a sponsor income perspective.

GuruSikh reacted to millefleur in N-400. Should we accept or decline Medicad?
That is normal. What happens is, they will send both cases to Medicaid and then, if your immigration status disqualifies you for Medicaid, they will send your case back to the Marketplace, upon which you will be able to purchase a plan there. It's possible your spouse ends up on Medicaid and you end up with a Marketplace plan. This is common, happens to a lot of people. If you qualify for Medicaid, you can use that, too, of course.
It depends on what your exact state's rules are for GC holders and Medicaid. Read more here:

Public charge is not a factor taken into account for N400.

GuruSikh reacted to cyanmavi in Online N-400 Evidence: Review + Question
Smart move. I believe there is an additional documents section you can upload them to. If you can't, I would not worry about it. If they need them, they will ask for them. I would still download them all from the bank's website though, just in case, sometimes there is a time limit how far back you can go.
Good luck with the wait now!

GuruSikh reacted to cyanmavi in Online N-400 Evidence: Review + Question
You do not need wills and power of attorneys. You can also add joint lease or mortgage information, joint utility bills showing same address. These are all extras, though, you have covered the basics.
You do need all months of bank statements (since ROC). Download as many as you can from the bank's website.

GuruSikh reacted to HRQX in Which Email to Use to Create myUSCIS Account?
Maybe after filing it might show:
Home Inbox Profile Settings Yes, skip it. I don't have "DOS Case ID" so I skipped it.
-
GuruSikh reacted to HRQX in Which Email to Use to Create myUSCIS Account?
Is the "Profile" page mostly blank?
If mostly blank, then maybe after N-400 filing it would populate that info.
-
GuruSikh reacted to HRQX in Which Email to Use to Create myUSCIS Account?
Either is fine. But in the "Name", "A-number", etc. fields for Online Profile use her info. When filling out N-400, it recognizes mismatch with myUSCIS Profile info.

GuruSikh reacted to Name O Boy in I-751 NOA2 - ASC Biometric Appointment Quesitons
She needs to bring her NOA-2 and a Photo I.D. It is not required but recommended to bring your GC. She can go alone without any issue. They will take her picture and fingerprints. She should be there at least 15 or 20 minutes before her appointment or show up early and might be done sooner than her appointment scheduled time.
