Hello! I entered the US with K1 Visa, got my green card which is a 10 year. i know it should have been a 2 year conditional green card only. I will be filing to lift the conditions in Sept as it will be two yrs already this Dec. Should I file an I90(which takes 6months) or should I just submit my application to lift the conditions witj my 10 year gc?

Share your interview experience - Montreal for IR5?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone recently gone through their interview (IR5) in Montreal and could share your experience? We (parents) are about to travel to MTL to do our interview and I'm not sure what to tell them to prepare them for the actual interview itself.

When I did mine almost a decade ago, I did it through Vancouver. I wasn't able to bring anything but my paperwork with me so I kept my keys, purse, and other items in my car locked in my glove compartment. I tried to park relatively close so I could run in without a jacket... this was during a cold/rainy time in Vancouver and I remember some VJ'ers recommend not to bring a super large jacket as they may hold it and they won't be responsible for it if damaged or lost (same with purses etc). I was local at the time and I recall a business across the Vancouver US embassy offering a bag hold service for those who didn't have a car/commuting via public transit. Are the rules similar in Montreal?

Additionally, if you've done an IR5 interview lately, what are some questions to expect? We have all the requested documents (original and a 2nd photo copy if they want to keep) ready. Photos, birth certificates etc. It's been so long that I'm not sure what we could be missing and with all the delays, I'm probably just heightened in anxiety wanting to make sure we don't miss anything.

They will be taking off later this week... It's been 1.5 years since I've seen them and it'll be 2 by the time they make their way down south (given that they are approved) and I can't help but feel like we're missing something. Or maybe it's just been a long time coming and there's nothing else to do now but breathe... It's such a different (but not) process than when I moved down here to be with my American husband almost a decade ago. I'm so ready for them to be here and for them to live the life we've built and for them to be around their new grandkids.

Thank you for your insights.

I-751 and name change

Will be filing the I-751 paperwork for Removal of Conditions in late August. When we married in June 2019 I did not change my surname to my husbands but going to do so soon. We have just been waiting for Social Security offices to start allowing in person appointments again to be able to make the change. My question is this. Does it make sense to do the name change at the same time as filing the I-751 paperwork so we are basically killing two birds with one stone, or is it better to file the I-751 and then after that is in progress file the name change. I believe the cost will be the same no matter what because they are going to charge for the name change separately. Any advice is greatly appreciated. TIA!

Update DS-260 if changed job?

After submitting DS-260, should I request KCC to unlock the form to update it if I travelled abroad or got a new job after submitting it? My wife is a student and graduates soon. She might go to work too, so same question about her occupation.

Is there anything else I need to do?

Hey all,

Became a U.S. Citizen on March 19th, and I've already done the following:

- Obtained voter registration
- Obtained Passport Book & Card

- Updated citizenship status on file with current employer

I do know that I will still need to:

- Obtain a full-fledged drivers license, but I'll do that closer to when my current one expires in October (I'm in GA if that matters)

- Update my SSN

A couple of questions, too:

- Do I need a new SSN card? I already got a new SSN card when I adjusted status years ago, no longer has the "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization" wording on it, or is this just a system change?

- Do I need to contact my banks and let them know I'm now a U.S. Citizen?

Thanks.
