First I want to thank EVERYONE who helped answer my silly questions and helped calm me down during the moment of truth. Without VJ I doubt I could have got through this process.

Sara and I are very paranoid people so we ensured we had everything in the packet, and arrived to the Santa Ana Federal Building 2 hours early. We were let in and walked into the AOS/citizenship room on the 2nd floor. We were called at 9:20, 10 minutes late after a very very very long line of "Maria (middle name here) Garcia"'s. It almost got comical, there was an african couple beside us cracking up after the 10th one.

Anyhoo

The officer who called us was an exceptionally stern and angry looking Vietnamese man. He called us and said that our filed was "Terribly put together" and we had to fill out a new G352A each, and we had 10 minutes to do it. We scrambled to get it all done and went into the office, now completely petrified that our file was a POS. He called us again and we were led down a long series of hallways to his office. Once inside I asked him "So what was wrong with our bio files, were they poorly written or did we do it completely wrong?" He said that our quadruplicate forms WERE NOT EVEN THERE with our file. After investigating more, he found all of our birth certificates, passport photocopies, tax returns and a ton of other information was simply missing. He deduced that Missouri sent about half of the file. Luckily thanks to VJ we had duplicates of every form and piece of ID. We had to give originals but he was very pleased we had this.

We then presented wedding photos, car insurance cards, and a check with our name and address on it. He informed us this was NOT sufficient evidence of a real relationship/marriage. We let him know doing anything in this country without an SSN is impossible. He asked why I had not gotten one as I had work auth. So we explained we JUST got my EAD and DHS has not authorized my SSN yet. He shook his head and muttered something under his breath about the system being inefficient and sloppy.

The entire time he did not ask how we met, when we got married or any of the standard questions. At the end Sara was so upset that he gave us a "2 year conditional Greencard" because he was so rude and stern and emotionless during the entire process she thought we failed and we would have to file some file later on. It took about 2 hours to calm her down and explain what we got was what we went there for.

Needless to say this Atheist is thanking whatever power there is out there that this entire thing is over until we file to remove conditions and go for citizenship.

Ohhh, I'd be worried too.

Our IO was also Asian (maybe Philipina) and seemed to be speaking another language to herself once in a while.

But she was pleasant.

Wow, that was a disturbing experience! I am glad that you got your green card approved in the long run, and sorry that you had to endure all that nonsense. Congratulations and may the rest of your journey be trouble-free.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I am SO HAPPY for you and Sara....thank goodness you had what you needed! I just don't get people who take out their job frustrations on innocent people.....just last week a coworker had a full blown, F-bomb hissy fit in my office about her boss....all I said was "if you're so unhappy, perhaps you should find another job". Don't you just wish you could've said that to Mr. Interviewer? :jest:

Anyway, YAY for Brad n Sara!!!!! :dancing:

My husband and I had a bad experienc in Santa Ana too...

Went there on Dec 18th for my husbands AOS interview..since we've been married almost 3 yrs he should get his uncondtional greencard...We gave them tons of info and showing proof of relationship..The guy wanted receipts from all the trips we've been on (aprox. 6 here in the us) even though we brought a photo album full of pic.from our civil wedding and all travels he wanted nothing to do with it... In a very rude manner I must say.

Gave us paper and said we had 30 days to mail back recipts from travel,etc..We don't keep these kind of things we have our photos for our memories..In any case had to get past credit card /debit card statements and what receipts we could find-also sent him back 5 letters from family-neighbors supporting us. We sent it all in on Jan 9th and now we're just holding our breath hoping all is well..If denied we'll have to get a lawyer and deal with all of it.

FYI- this is what we brought to our interview:

all official doc-birth certs,marraige,etc.

tax filing as joint for 2 yrs

joint checking account

gas and electric in both names

health, dental, eye insurance that lists my husband

My 401k listing my husband as sole benficiary

Plus "The photo album" full of pictures from through-out our marraige-(marriage,family gatherings, all travel places-showing of course both of us in pictures)

We were so disappointed when we left-we were very well-prepared and the fact he would not even allow us to show him pictures!!!!

We're now just playing the waiting game and hoping....

Yeah-Santa Ana for us sucked !!!!!
