How long is visa valid for and can you still be refused when you get there [merged threads]

New one on me, not an ESTA question so how did it come up?

No idea. It was quite some years ago and was the first time I'd ever heard of someone from Europe (WVP country) having to apply for a visa. Maybe they ran a background check somehow and found something?

Typically validity will be for 5-10 years (each visit up to 6 months - you can be given less though). 

 

And yes, a visa doesn't guarantee entry.

If u have a tourist visa,  CBP will have a few questions and perhaps inspect luggage (very very country depentent)

 

why a refusal of entry?

misreprentation to immigration

BF in US and they feel u will stay and adust

bringing in documents to give CBP the idea u will work in US 

 

Having return  plane tickets with hotel reservations and tickets to Disneyland will show no intent to stay but just be a tourist

Ah yes thank you l, it says obtaining a visa does not guarantee being allowed into us? So worried about flying out there to be told no??

Surely you wouldn't be given it to then be refused once there? What would be the point in the process? Imagine me flying there with my kids to then be flown back home??  I couldn't bear putting them through that????

It does happen.  It happened to me.  If you do a search on visa journey you can easily find stories.  

I do not mention this to scare you, but to prepare you.  Only US citizens are guaranteed entry into the US.

I think your validity might only be a year.

IIRC you want to go to Disney with your kids. You should be fine. But, of course there are no guarantees.

It happens.   No one is guaranteed admission except for citizens.

 

Why are you so worried about being turned away?   If you are truly planning to abide by the conditions of your visa (i.e visit and then leave), why are you so worried?
