Can you enrol your kids in school at any time of the year apart from when they are on vacation?

Hi All, 

just wanted to check if anyone had information about school enrolment for kids between 6 and 10 years old. Can they enrol at anytime you arrive in America or is there a specific time frame.

You talking about post move to the US on immigrant visas? Yes, you just go in and sign them up - proof of residence will be needed in the form of a utility bill or lease.

There were a lot of new immigrants where I was as a child. They came in through out the year.
 

If there were any rules, I’m sure they would be school district specific, but I have never heard of any.

The school here let me complete all the enrolment formalities before my stepdaughter even arrived.  They just said bring her there and stop by the office whenever she was actually ready to start.

No, this is a law. They have to be enrolled in public schools the moment child is presented to the school. Any time! In fact, it is a must for you to enroll the child the moment you immigrate.

This was my experience too. I was able to take care of guardianship paperwork and "pre-enrollment" before my husband and stepdaughters arrived. They crossed on Thanksgiving Day, and the following Monday, I took them to their respective schools to register. It turned out they needed a few vaccines and a TB test before they could finish registering, but they were able to complete registration and start classes by that Thursday.
