@EmilyW I'm gonna check tonight to see if her passport is still valid.  In case it has expired, what are her/our options?

Renew it.

Make sure to book the ticket using your wife's name on her Vietnamese passport, if different from the GC name.  Many Vietnamese have their names in mangled order on their GC.  List the name exactly as it appears on her passport, regardless of how it is listed on her GC.

If her name is different on her GC and passport bring her marriage certificate as well that shows both her married name

and maiden name.

My wife is now a Permanent Resident as her Removal Of Conditions was approved this last year.

One small note that might become relevant when she wants to apply for citizenship.

she became a permanent resident well before your removal of conditions was approved!

when you’re looking at when she can apply for naturalisation, go by the date listed on her greencard that says “resident since:”, not the date they approved the removal of conditions.

in fact, based on your timeline with adjustment of status being granted in 2019, she can probably already apply for naturalisation!

1) Make sure her Vietnamese passport has at least 6+ months of validity at the time of travel. Many countries won't accept passport even if it's valid but has less than 6 months left.

2) Make sure she has her expired green card and valid, original extension letters for travel

3) Check visa policies for all the countries you're going to visit or transit through. Some may require transit or visit visa.

4) Check COVID restrictions (I know, it's 2023 but still...)

#2 will not apply. Removal of conditions was already approved, so OP's wife has a 10 year green card.

So we've been looking at the Vietnam Consulate Website for information on Renewing her passport.  So far the website is not much help.  Calling only has prompts for Visa information and we haven't been able to talk to anyone.  Next will be to attempt an email.

Here's what we've gathered so far.

1.  Downloaded and fill out application

2.  Two recent Passport Photo

3.  Expired Viet Passport (not sure if they want just a copy or the actual passport)

4.  ?  fees, website instructions mention fees but does not give a link or fee schedule

5.  I believe there's a part to send Viet IDs, not sure if this is really needed?

6.  US Greencard, not sure if they want a copy or the actual (pretty reluctant to send the actual card...)

7.  Send along return envelope

I think there's more questions but can't think of them now...

Anyone have gone through this?  Please help?

Thanks all!  Passport renewed and flights booked!

New Question specifically for Vietnam (not sure if there's a difference) travel.  Does she still have to apply for a Visa?  Is it any different then me applying as US Citizen/Passport holder?

Vietnamese citizens with valid passport do not need visa to enter their own country Vietnam, just like US citizens do not need US visas to enter the US.

Vietnamese citizen with US Green Card does not need a visa to enter the US as they're permanent resident. I don't understand the question?

I apologize if this question came off as "STUPID".  I was merely curious if there is a different process for my wife to enter Vietnam with or without a (tourist) visa as she's now a permanent resident of the US.

I would much rather get this question answered or remedied prior to getting stuck at either border ports.

If the consensus is... she's fine to enter Vietnam when we visit without a Visa as she's still currently a Vietnam Citizen by default and then re-enter the US as a Permanent Resident then Thank you for reassuring my thoughts!

Your question isn't stupid, you're ensuring she won't have any issues travelling. I hope my answer helps!

Citizens cannot get visa to their own countries of citizenship.

LPRs do not need visa to enter place of their permanent residence.

If she goes go a different country, then she may need a visa, depending on the country rules.
