I'm trying to apply for a few family members to be able to come visit me in the US as my green card is still processing and I don't have approval to travel outside of the US yet. I did some research and I'm finding the process of applying for family members to be a bit confusing.

Some questions I had were:

1.) Let's say I'm applying for just one person (my father). When it asks if you're traveling alone I say no. It then prompts me to add the other people traveling with you. I add both of my sisters, and my brother. Once I have done this, however, it's unclear to me if this means everyone who is added to the application aside from the original applicant (my father) is then  automatically applying for their own visas once the application is submitted.

2.) I have read that even if each person's name was added to the main application, they would still have to complete their own individual DS 160 form. If this is the case, what is the point of adding them to the main application?

3.) Does adding individual family members to the overall DS 160 application mean that if for whatever reason, the visa is denied for one person, it's then automatically denied for all of them?

Please explain this process to me. Thank you.

Everyone will be interview separately, unless under 14

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

You are overthinking it. You are just being asked to indicate if the person plans to travel alone or with other people, and if they are planning to travel with others, who those other people are.

The point is that you are providing the information that you are required to provide. You are not adding them to the application; everyone needs to apply separately.

Everyone applies separately and they are all asked to provide information about their travel plans, which includes who they are planning to travel with.

no, each person that wants to apply for a B2 needs their own DS160.

you are just being honest as to the plans as they stand now.

No, each DS160 is processed separately, so it could be any combination of approval and denials.

Good Luck!

There's no such thing as "main" application nor "family" application for US tourist visa.  As others already said, everyone who wants a tourist visa applies individually and needs their own separate DS-160.  Each application is processed as an individual case, even if the consulate allows family members to interview on the same timeslot.

What do you think would happen if I put the other family members he'd be traveling with, but at some between the time the ds160 is submitted and the time he goes to the interview, the plan changes and it's only my father (the one whose ds160 it is) is the one traveling. Will that cause issues at the interview? We anticipate that all of my family members will be traveling together, but there's also a possibility that one or more may not be able to travel later on when the time comes to travel. Just want to know if the discrepancy will cause issues at the interview.

No problems   Plans change. each persons application stands alone

Each person who eventually travels must have v their own visa application, Interview and approval

They fill out the DS160 to the best of their knowledge with the current situation and plans. If plans change, they will be able to explain that at the interview.
