Wife is still waiting for an interview date after getting documentarily qualified.

I (US citizen) applied for an IR1 visa for my wife (non US citizen). She got documentarily qualified over three months ago by NVC. The email said they would work with the US consulate in Lagos to schedule an interview and they would let us know.

 

We still haven't heard anything since then. I've been reading some stuff about a huge backlog at the US consulate in Lagos regarding interviews. I'm considering applying for our case to be rescheduled l expedited. 

 

Our kids are US citizens but they are with her. They cannot be here with me in the US as there will be no one to take care of them while I work. My wife is also unable to work in Nigeria as she is by herself and there is no one to look after the kids if she goes to work.

 

Can I apply for an expedited interview on this basis because honestly, we need to be together as a family. I hate being away from my wife and kids and vice versa. I would also like our kids to start preschool here soon and that's impossible without my wife being here. I appreciate your advice.

You can ask NVC and the consulate to expedite, but I don't see a valid reason in your post.  You are already in line for the interview. Even before Covid, 3 months was normal.  Good luck.

3 months without hearing anything from NVC or the local US consulate after being DQed?

I’m sure that’s how everyone waiting for interviews feels like. You’re free to apply for an expedite but to be honest with you this is not a valid expedite reason as everyone wants to be reunited with their loved ones asap.

for Lagos, those DQ’d in April 2022 are getting interview letters now for a July interview. That’s a year and 3 months after being DQ’d. You can see timelines for Nigeria below:

Yes, that is normal for your consulate.

 

 Normally, I'd say you have a good shot at expediting for financial loss (supporting two households etc), but that would have been at the USCIS part of the process.  Not sure if they would expedite the interview, since you're already in the queue, and it's not an "emergency."  It's worth a try, though, perhaps?  @Boiler, you enjoy expedites, what do you think?

I am now at 5 months 14 days for cr1 and cr2 after dq and nothing! I have sent many enquiries and they just say you are in line (manila) 

Just the feeling of pfffft at this point. I suppose it will be any day but it seems there is no predicting the system. Maybe intentional and I get that

The Philippines is a high fraud country, that adds time to the process too.

Doesn’t sound promising for us. Kind of just planning a 1 year wait. Good luck, following.
