Hi everyone!
So, me and my son just got our SS cards on the mail. After we applied for i485 AOS, I wasnt asked for an interview or anything.

Im sorry if the question is stupid,  but, whats next?
can I get a job now? Can I travel outside the US?

thank you so much for your inputs

Hello, did you get a Green Card already? If yes, you can get a job and travel.

If you haven't received Green Card, did you receive EAD card? If yes, you can use it for work. For travel you needed to get Advance Parole e.g I-131. Did you file for it in your AOS packet?

To summarize, you can travel and work if you got Green Card. Otherwise you need I-131 (AP) for travel and I-765 (EAD) for work.

Looks to me like you applied for your SSN as a newly arrived K1. Then you filed your 485 and things. You have to wait for your EAD and Advanced parole to travel and work. check the processing times for your reciept # and that will give you an idea how long it will be.

Don't celebrate too soon. A social security card does not give you authorization to work nor does it give you authorization to travel. Those authorizations will come much later, possibly months from now.

For now, you still can not travel and you can not work. You can use the SS number to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards, and get insurance.
